Hello! This is my first post.
I've known for quite a while now that I've lost control of my drinking. Found y'all a few days ago while searching for a rehab place, but don't have the courage to actually check myself in. So, I'm here. I've ordered the book, the cds, and made an appt. with my doctor. Not sure what to do about vitamins, supplements and/or a straightjacket. I'm only sure that I wish to live free of alcohol and nicotine.

Hello! This is my first post.
hi Pie,
You are starting off the exact same way I did!! As far as the supplements go, I got most of mine at either CVS (the vitamins) and my local small health food store (Kudzo, L-Glut, GABA, Evening Primrose). I took the update to the supps with me to the store and he found them all for me. I've never looked back and I didn't even need the straight jacket !!
Follow the program, read and post a lot and I think you will be fine. Even if you slip, we're here to support you. If you really really want this, it will happen with patience and preserverence. Go to the Toolbox and read-you'll be able to make a good plan from that. I'll try to post the link to that when I get home unless someone can do that quicker for Pie????
:welcome: and :goodjob: for finding us and wanting to change your life for the better.

Hello! This is my first post.
G'day Pie. I'm new too. I'm 29 days AF now and it's thanks to my coming here.
I was a heavy drinker for many many years. And I mean heavy. A dozen 375ml stubbies of full strength every day...sometimes more. I'm male and pretty strong...I could handle it...just.
I lurked for two weeks and read all I could. I lost a few illusions in that time. One was thinking I could taper off and cut down to become a 'moderate drinker'...that would have been good I thought. Giving up entirely didn't appeal at all. Doesn't work that way.
I suggest you go the 30 days. Just do it. Take a while to nerve yourself up then pick a start day and go for it. Remember Yoda 'Do, or do not. There is no try.'
The first few days won't be easy. You won't sleep too well either (this improves slowly and you won't be tired, bed rest is as good as sleep at this stage.)
You won't feel miraculously better either...the benefits come slowly. You will notice the spare $140 a week in your jeans though.
Hang tough dude! And ask any questions you like. We are all on your side.
