      ODAT Friday 2nd July 2010

Good morning well its day 5 again for me as i had 26 days af then i slipped last weekend. Well its a new month and a sunny morning here so heres to a sober month for a start really hope to try and make it till the end odat. I got results of a bone density scan yesterday and my gp said it revealed my bones have softned and i have osteoparois mostly in my lumber spine and hip area. That knocked me a bit i can tell ye but i have started a calci drink and 1 extra calcichew as before all i was taking was one. So hopefully my bones will strenthen a bit when i get my next scan which is not till 2 years. I'm only 48 well 49 in 5 weeks but i started menopause early. Well i need to watch my diet more closely and alcohol is not good as it won't help t doesn't go well with meds so got to be careful. Anyway could be worse looks like they caught it in early stages. Well have a good friday all and i'll check in later or tomorrow.

Good work All :goodjob: Keep it going.
It's the evening of day 28 here and it's cold and I've go to out and play rock 'n roll for 3 hours in a bar which will be full of disinterested drinkers. Can't wait as it's so much fun playing. For some unkown reason being around drinkers and drinking places does not bother me but I remain ever vigilant as the beast is still lurking just around the corner.

Hi everyone, I am having a busy time but still struggling with the beast I do seem to be winning. After feeling euphoric and full of energy I am now feeling tired and a bit depressed and sad. I am not sure where this is coming from but i sense it is to do with alcohol.
Firefox I have osteoporosis and am on lots of treatment I am sure it was caused by 40 years of abusing alcohol or I should say alcohol abusing me. It is never too late to change. Even though I felt miserable this morning I went out and did a 6 mile run and I think it has changed my mood a bit. Just got to get through this ODAT

              Hey Guys,

Katie, wow 2 weeks allready in the bag!!! So proud of you. That a wise thing though with the anti depressants?! Or have you been taking them for a while!? My doctor tells me that even when you're feeling well you should be on them for 6 months minimum. I mean you've just come through such a lot, isn't it good you're on teh medication? Or maybe go onto some other anti depressants that won't make you dizzy.

Girly, So glad you're doing great as well. Not long until the therapy starts as well, hey?! Good going Girly.

Firefox, good going for getting back on track and getting those days in teh bag again. it's a lesson learned right?! so it might have been worth the slip in the end.

Hi Panno, How is it going lady?! Good to see you back on track as well.. Any dancing outings planned for the weekend? Or a quite one?!

Hey WWB... Glad you're being strong. Just keep up your guard. Enjoy the gig!!

Anon, hand in there. You'll get some AF time under belt and you start doing a lot better. Life will always be full of ups and downs but being AF will mean the good times will start outweighing the bad. ODAT it is.

              Good going everyone!!!

Having a football/soccer weekend in front of me again. Tonight on telly and tomorrow live in Stadium. Can't wait
              AF since 15th March 2010

The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

And where's my dearly beloved Overit?!

I've just (thanks to Tippers), found Antabuse for 1/3rd of the price i've been paying through an online pharmacy. Will definately try that out. basically get 120 tablets there for teh price of 30 in SA. (oops that's 1/4 of the price actually )

                You going strong lady?!

Katie B ive been on anti d's for about 3 months now, tried 1 asked to try another - Citalopram is what I am on now, need to go get them from the pharmacy as havent taken any for 2 days now.

Citalopram is used to treat the symptoms of major depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and OCD.

Citalopram is a Pgp substrate and is actively transported by that protein from the brain. The efficacy of citalopram in people possessing a certain version of Pgp (genetic TT-allele) is likely to be diminished. This suggests that in non-responders to citalopram a switch to an antidepressant which is not a Pgp substrate, such as fluoxetine (Prozac, Fontex) or mirtazapine (Remeron)—but not to venlafaxine (Effexor), amitriptyline (Elavil) or paroxetine (Paxil), which are Pgp substrates—may be beneficial

                        Hey Johnny!

How sweet to wake up and see your lovely post! Good morning everyone! Girly so glad you made it through the tough day yesterday, I know it was touch and go for a while there. Panno, day 5, I knew you could to it. Hope those of you struggling find your strength today!!!

Johnny, things on the Antabuse are going just fine Having a bit of trouble sleeping?? but thats ok. The rewards are worth a few tosses around at night. Have had no side effects other than that.

Im glad I did take the plunge so to speak. The hardest part was insert pill in mouth, after that things got very simpified. Yes, I am happy with the decision. Definately, and as time goes on and I feel qualified to share more experience, I will try to encourage others to give it a shot as well. It IS a nice feeling to KNOW, aint no drinking today!

Im in a soccar pool at work where we are given teams and whoevers team wins get a couple hundred dollars I think. My team is Uruguay so SORRY routing for them today ;0
