Perhaps you should alert his doctor. Maybe he needs a higher dose.

Like those who posted before, I get red, blotchy and itchy if I drink while taking it.

I am too much of a chicken to even "test" drinking on Antabuse, and that is why it's working so wonderfully for me. The thought of ending up in the ER because I HAD to have a drink? No thanks...what would I tell my family/co-workers? I can't praise Antabuse enough, as long as you are 100% committed to not drinking!

Someone I know drank on Saturday, after quitting Antabuse the previous Tuesday. They got a little flushed, but that was it. I guess it's different for everyone. Anyway, the "side effects" weren't enough to keep this person AF. I thought it stayed in your system longer, but I guess everyone is different!

I'm a struggling alcoholic. I was taking Antabuse religiously and had 2 relapses with no sickness... I did get some flushing the first time and felt like I was drinking poison but that didn't stop me. I ended up in the hospital after 3 days of binging with .4 BAC and walking and talking after 47 days sober. 2nd time no noticeable sickness after 32 days sober, taking pills every morning.

In my experience I know Antabuse can't stop me... Believe it. I just finished bottle of whiskey for second relapse and was looking for answers when I ran across this forum. Started slow to see if there was nausea or anything was too bad and i should stop but looks like I'm fine... Despite everything I have and everything I know I'm still struggling to stop... Progress not perfection

Just quick note, on last relapse it was the police in my apartment that woke me up from 0.4 blackout. Had a worried family that called 51/50 on me. I was handcuffed on the bed while they flipped my place looking for drugs or weapons (i'm guessing). nothing like coming to with 4 cops with their guns drawn in your bedroom...And I did get sick (which never usually happens) for a bit one of those early nights but it's foggy when... I was discharged after 12 hours in the hospital 3 blocks from my house where I walked home and continued to binge drink for 3 more days... Cunning and baffling. Antabuse had little effect on me
