AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test)

    Good morning all,

I think I had mentioned I edit substance abuse research for a living. A common screening tool used by physicians to identify drinking problems is the AUDIT. I took it for the first time, honestly (took it plenty of times and lied), today. In case you're tricky little mind is rationalizing "just one," see what your result is:

AUDIT Alcohol Screening Test - Alcohol & Substance Abuse, Addiction, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Cult & Depression

    Here was mine. Scary.

Your alcohol usage exceeds safe-use guidelines, and is considered to be within the ?hazardous and harmful? range of consumption. You are very likely abusing alcohol, and may be dependent (addicted) to it. In other words, you may very well be an alcoholic. You are strongly urged to seek substance abuse counseling. Your drinking will most likely harm you physically, socially and occupationally if you do not stop. If you are unable to control your drinking (and many people who score like you just have cannot control their drinking) you should abstain from all drinking. Professional help and group support will likely improve your chances for regaining your health. Note: It is very dangerous to go 'cold-turkey' (e.g., to suddenly stop drinking) if you are alcohol dependent. Please see a medical doctor for a safe way to come off your alcohol habit. If your employer offers an Employee Assistance Program, you might also contact them for help and referral.

Not drinking 1st thing in the morning was my saving-grace 0 also! No grace left for lunch, though.

                            31. You know, as many times as I have "decided" to quit drinking, I really only wanted to get it under control enough that it didn't destroy my life. My life is very close to being destroyed now. There is only one solution, and I have to stop with the crap and self deception and just DO it. For good. Forever. No way out. There is no other drink in the future for me. If there is, there is no future. Today is day one. There will never be another one.
I can't drink and pretend to be sane. I can't drink and pretend to be moral. I can't drink and continue to live.
