Additional Positive Side Effects of Being AF

    Hi Folks:

Today is day 10 AF for me and I just noticed some additional positive side effects. I've always known that the extra calories in alcohol were adding to my weight and this morning I am down 5 pounds (and that's a good thing!)

Also, for the past several years, I have been diagnosed with 'prehypertensisoin' and 'prediabetes'. My blood pressure normally runs around 144/86 and this morning it is 131/72. And, my fasting blood sugar level usually runs around 110 and this morning it is 97.

Has anyone else noticed similar changes or benefits? I guess I am a little surprised that the changes came so quickly - 10 days.

Hi Paguy! Yes, I noticed differences so quickly it was unbelieveable! Like you I lost heaps of weight very quickly - it's not just the booze calories of course, it's the mixers and the junk food we eat when our defences are down or comfort food when hungover. I also noticed my skin improved dramatically, it had got blotchy and horrible when I was drinking. My cholesterol came down, still not as good as it should be but down heaps. Liver function tests came in normal after 2 months or so - they had been really elevated.
The one I like best of the whole lot tho is that I have learnt to laugh and smile at happy/funny things - the joy had gone out of my life with drink.
It just keeps getting better and better - well done John

      Hi paguy,

I am devouring chocolate so I have actuelly put on weight. But I am not complaining! On the other hand, my eyes are more white, my skin looks healthier, I have more energy, I am less emotional, I have less panic attacks. I just got to stay away from those damn doughnuts!

This is all more positive reinforcement - great job everyone! I'll also look forward to skin improvements - I've developed some nasty blotches on my face over the years.

Stay away from those doughnuts, rebirth! :H

One word: sleep. Went through years of insomnia, night sweats, early morning panic attacks that I thought alcohol was helping me with - now a couple months in I can't believe the difference in my sleeping patterns and daytime energy levels, and the panic attacks have simply gone away. I no more dread the early morning hours and that's a great feeling!

OMG - Krispee Kreme donuts are the best! Especially when you eat them when they come right out of the oven! Thank goodness I live in the mid-atlantic states where these donuts are not readily available. They are very popular in the southern states. YUM!!

Couldn't agree more. I love getting into bed now, getting a fantastic solid night's rest, and waking up sober and clear-minded. I am also significantly more active and participatory in life. I love it!

I am also finding my skin is clearer, my eyes brighter.. I feel energised every morning and look forward to the day, rather than dreading it and feeling like sh*t.. Mentally I feel healthy, rational and "on the ball" - I am fully aware of everything and what I need to do.. whereas when drinking my mind was in a fog and I was often irrational and over-emotional.. the benefits of being AF are huuuge!!!

I went from 217lbs down to 190 in about 7 weeks. I can actually eat a real meal with out feeling sick or full. I no longer take my BP meds and I'm stable at 120/74. Now my goal is to get back into those 32" jeans I held onto for some reason. Oh, and my stomach doesn't hurt anymore and my face is only red if I get a sunburn!

                          Good changes will keep coming....

                          11 weeks sober today!

Great job, TJ - I'm impressed!!

Why do we all hold on to our 32 inch waist jeans? I think I finally got rid of mine last year after keeping them in my closet for at least 20 years!! I'm perfectly content now to slide into my 34's.

                            Keep up the great work.
