      Welcome Hawaii,

You will find lots of good support , advice here, we're all in the same boat, and whatever your story, there will be non judgemental support.

A good goal to aim for 1 week AL free, for me I just have to aim for 1 day at a time, when I think of the weekend or several days without alcohol I have doubts that I can do it, but making the decision each morning that I WILL NOT DRINK today....I can do that,
look forward to hearing more from you, all the best

        Hi & Welcome Hawaii,

I think I need a goal of 1 week myself - or maybe even 4 days!

This is a Great forum. Keep reading & posting.

          Aloha,

Welcome to MWO! Going AF for a week is a great idea. You get a much better perspective on things when you have been sober for a few days. It is not always easy, but defiantly worth doing. Please keep reading, posting and asking for support.

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hi Hawaii, and a big Welcome to you!

Going af for a week is a great idea. But, depending on your level of drinking, i.e. if you are a heavy drinker, just be careful about withdrawal's. We are usually okay, but if you're worried, see a doctor. Otherwise, go for it!
Have a read of the 'Toolbox' thread here too. It's in the 'monthly abstinence' section, and full of great info and tip's.

            Bravo! G.

If I could do a week, I'd feel pretty good about doing a month. And a year, etc. You're ahead of some of us, if you think you can do it. I read that an obstacle to success is doubt, and so, don't doubt! Others have done it, we all aspire to.

Personally, I'd like to moderate and have done so in the past, but it leads me down a path....

                  Hi everyone,
Thank you all for your support.I have never posted anything anywhere before so if i make a mistake please forgive me in advance.I thought a month would be too much to start because i would be disgusted with myself if i failed.I would like to be able to drink moderately but it lasts for awhile and then i fall back. The guilt and self hatred then is terrible.Hopefullly i will be able to open up more soon.I'll post tomorrow.Hoping for good sleep tonight(i'm a chronic insomniac for 28 years),then supplements and walking tomorrow pg.xx.

                            Hi hawaii,

Welcome to MWO, this is a good place!

Have you read the MWO book yet? You can download it right from the Health Store here on the home page. It's full of useful information & explains the different aspects of the program. I highly recommend the CDs. They really helped me to relax & change my attitude about drinking. They will help you with your insomnia as well.

Take a look in the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html for good ideas to help you make your plan. I found keep myself busy & distracted during the early days to be very helpful. Make a list of non-AL activities that you like to do, commit yourself & just do it! You won't be sorry, I promise!

Wishing you the very best on your journey! If you have any questions, please just ask
