TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE

    Thought For Day 6

    Exercising control
Discipline is easier than it sounds. Discipline is nothing more than choosing, with intention and positive purpose, while considering all the consequences of making that choice.
Discipline is a matter of controlling the person over whom you already have the most control. That person is you.

When you focus on the consequences of each action you take, on the short term and long term consequences, discipline comes easily and naturally. Discipline is the recognition and celebration of the fact that your actions have influence.

By choosing your actions you can choose your results. By choosing your actions you can choose the life you create for yourself.

Discipline is not a punishment or a burden when you choose it for yourself. Discipline is one of life's greatest opportunities.

Choose in each moment to exercise the control that you already have. Live and act with discipline, and create a life of true fulfillment.

I have to say that I thrive on control and discipline! Not of others but defo of myself, being sober makes it a whole lot easier to choose our intentions and stick to them. We are so much more powerful than we think guys! Be your biggest influence.......

              Hi everyone.
Well, its 5:22, I just got home from work, typically open a bottle of wine.
So what did I do? Get a bowl of ice cream. Now I know that my figure may not like that but I'm giving myself a little slack for a week or two. Only - day 2! Will have to occupy myself now for awhile and rev up my discipline before going to (wine) book club! Night.

But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a dream of hope."

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE

Got through day 5. Its friday. As usual thought about wine at 3pm at work. Got home at 4.30 (I actually got in early today!). It was a lovely day so I went for a walk for an hour.

Hubbie got home and said he was going to the shop and did I want anything. I said no. He came home with wine. And I didn't have any! He got red and I prefer white, but usually I would have asked him to get me some white, or just drunk red with him.

He probably is wondering whats going on, but he didn't say anything.

"the fact that your actions have influence" - there are people I hope will notice that I'm not drinking and stop drinking so much themselves, friends and family. I see myself as a small, insignificant little person, and when someone repeats back to me an opinion I have or seems to have been influenced by me in some way I am always surprised.

well done baby-steps and little owl.

I managed to get through day 5, but a bit grumpy in the process! You are right baby steps - now is not the time to deprive yourself of ice-cream! What flavour?! I just had sausages for lunch - would normally never eat them, but it was the only thing left in the fridge ...... I didn't feel up to my normal Saturday morning shop today.

Have you/are you going to talk to your hubby Little Owl?

We are going to get a bottle of wine to take to dinner with friends tonight, and I'll look for something non-alcoholic to take with me (I found a nice French AF muscat a week or so ago). I really dont feel like going out, and I dont normally give in to pressure to go, but it is at the invite of a friend whose husband has been really depressed since he was made redundant a year ago. They are not big drinkers or socialisers either, so it be quite a quiet night I expect.

Right on. The punishment comes whether self imposed or other other imposed when we don't exercise self discipline.

Makes me think of the saying: There can be no freedom without responsibility.

I'm so confused on what day I'm actually on with everyone checking in from around the world. I'll just stick to the task of the 30 day challenge. No sense cramping my brain any more than necessary. ;o)

                      Love to all.

I think you are wise to give yourself some slack in the early days and eat ice cream if that helps you stay sober!! Don't be afraid to NOT go to events where AL is served early on. For me, my sobriety is #1. It has to be. I took a pass on events with AL for quite a while. Everyone doesn't have to do that, but don't be afraid to if that's what it takes for you. It gets easier later on - at least it did for me.

Congrats on Day 5 Little Owl! Is there a reason you aren't telling your husband about your efforts to stop drinking? My own husband is not an alcoholic, but he is just so supportive of what I go through. And since he's NOT alcohlic, he really wouldn't know how to support my efforts if he had to guess. He will have drinks on occassion (he can without a problem) but in support of me, he doesn't drink when we're out alone together or at home. Communication has been key for him to understand my disease. Just a thought in case it's helpful. The important thing is that you do whatever works for you to not drink.

Nighty night (or good morning or afternoon) all!

                          [QUOTE=Miss Behaving;938619]Bridge - what is "applied" exercise?? :H:H

It's when one actually DOES it, instead of just thinking about it in a kind of virtual way.
Another big difference is that one often actually SWEATS in the course of this 'exercise' :H

Going well this end folk. Must read back.

I just returned a short time ago from a 60k bike ride. I had terrible right leg cramp this evening that put me on the ground. I had hydrated well and it eased fairly quickly. It troubles me as I'm only a few weeks away from my event. I plan on a 120k ride Sunday but will see how I feel after laps tomorrow morning.

So happy you are doing well little owl. The advice given re: speaking with your husband is wise. You need understanding at home so you both on the same page when your in social situations.

                            Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

EmergenC makes a good Electrolyte Mix Techie. And taking a protein drink with glutamine and creatine pre and post work out should help.

I use nuun hydration electrolyte tabs. I've used these for some time. Thanks RC. I usually never cramp like that. Was running late. I think I rushed by pre-ride warm up...that's all. I HOPE!
