TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
Day six dawns. Well, its 9.30 but I don't get up very early on saturdays.
Miss Behaving, Doggy Girl and Techie: I don't think I am going to say much to my husband. I'm going to just do it. I'm not really saying much to anyone. I had a diet coke at line dancing with my daughter the other day, I have told her I want to lose a few pounds. My daughter drinks wine, but nowhere near as much as I used to. And her boyfriend drinks whisky. I'm hoping maybe they will follow my example. My husband just had the one glass last night. He can do that. I can't. Actually, he doesn't drink too much, he is a funny falling over kind of drunk, he can't drink too much without making a fool of himself. But in a funny way, not like I used to be.
Tonight might be difficult. I'm going to a local pub to see a band with my best mate. I will be driving. We live in opposite directions so meet up there. I usually have a couple of lagers. Can I just drink diet coke??!!!
Today I am cleaning behind the cooker and washing machine, and then painting the wall behind there. I started decorating the kitchen in May when I had a week off, and I have been putting this bit off ever since, but its not finished until I have done it. Its dusgusting behind there, I just sprayed Flash cleaner with bleach in it all over it, and I'm dreading going back to look at it!!!
Good luck everyone, stay strong. I feel so much better this morning than I usually would on a saturday. I would have probably drunk a whole bottle of wine to celebrate the end of the week last night. There is my husband's bottle of red in the kitchen, but I looked at it and it looks like poison, it would make me happy briefly, then out of control, then fall asleep (or pass out), then hungover, ill, angry ashamed - its just not worth it, is it!

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
Hi all! Little Owl, I hate jobs like that too. You will fell SO GOOD when it's done, and you are probably already done by now! Good luck at the pub. I really had to avoid that stuff early on. Hope you have fun with your friend!
Techie, I hope training this weekend goes better. (120 miles tomorrow is your plan???? :egad
:yougo: Pink on Day 7 and :yougo: Sunray on day 6. That is so awesome. For me the very early days were the hardest. I thought day 10 would never get there! Those first 10 days felt like forever! I was so excited to get to "double digits" and I hope you are excited about it too.
Everyone is doing great.
Day 821 here today. It's about 1/2 way over -just took a lunch break after a busy morning. Went to an early AA meeting and now am moving stuff off the 2nd story of our house which is going to be remodeled soon. I'm almost done with my office which is a disater area of clutter beyond belief. A part of me wanted to just throw everything in the trash and start over.
Have a fabulous AF day everyone!

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
Hello Pink Angel, Sunray, Little Owl, Doggygirl and all the 30dayers.
No struggles al wise...just a blah day. Weather ovecast and wet. Full moon on the rise too. Always makes me dream more, sleep less. Work done soon and ready for chilling and early bed.
Totally unrelated: Does anyone have to "drug" their dog to groom them? Mine has never liked it and has only been to the groomers twice and it was not a pleasant experience for her or the groomer I might add. I usually just snip the mats as they form but would love to use a shaver on her. I'm thinking valerian. I have tried 5HTP. It makes her calmer but not calm enough for what I'd like to do. Just throwing this out if anyone can help. Thanks.

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
hello all,
Cant help on the dog front RC. I have a very fluffy maine cooone (as well as my other tabby) who just loves being brushed, even when it is quite matted. He even rolls over onlt his back so I can do his tummy!!:H
Techie - that's some serious riding! I'm hoping for some better weather this week so I can get outt on my bike (as opposed to the stationary one in the gym) - I'm always a bit nervous on the roads when I haven't been out for a while, so I'll wait for a time when the sun is out, the wind is down and the traffic is light.
DG - hope your remodelling goes well. I wish you much patience and reliable tradespeople!
How did you get on at the pub Little Owl?
Sunray ...... I had an insight last year sometime when I was talking to a counsellor, and realised that the only time I cried was when I'd been drinking. Even though we all know that al suppresses our emotions, for me, it also gave me permission to let them out. Now when I'm weepy when I haven't been drinking I tend to think it is a good thing, because I'm letting myself feel whatever I'm feeling instead of trying to push it away.
Howdy Pinky :wavin: Starting to be spring down here - hope it is for you too!
This is the first Day 7 I have got to for several months, so I've temporarily silenced the tape in my head telling me how useless I am and how I'll never succeed at this. I''m sure it will return at some point, but I'll have a bit more strength by then! I went to dinner at friends place last night and walked in to the smell of food cooking in red wine. I salivated big time (even though I've never been a red wine drinker!) - boy, did it smell good!! I was quite happy sticking to my raspberrry and apple juice and another person there wasn't drinking either. And I was very glad to be in control of mouth as there were several people there who were dealing with big issues (one who hasn't worked for a year and one whose wife died a month ago) and the conversation was serious and dealing with sensitive issues.
I've got through my normal sleeplessness in the first week with the aid of some sleeping pills, but I'm not going to take any more. They've been great at getting me over the hump, but I do feel a bit fuzzy in the mornings and I need to be a bit more alert this week. So things might get a little bit harder for me physically over the next couple of days, but it will be easier to deal with emotionally having a week AF behind me.
Wishing everyone a sober and magical day!Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
Greeting Fellow 30dayers - I'm having a bit of a blah day myself, RC. Maybe the full moon on the rise is impacting me, too. Just kept myself busy with weekend chores and errands and did some cooking for the week (quinoa-stuffed peppers, salmon cakes, chicken piccata). I like to prepare my meals for the week on the weekend. It keeps me occupied and I get to eat healthy during the week!
RC - I don't have a problem with my dog once he gets to the groomers. However, getting him there in the car is a real trip. He is very unsettled in the car, jumping all around. But, the groomer says he is an absolute angel when he works on him! Go figure. Good luck.
Techie - Good luck with your 120k bike ride tomorrow - Yikes! Hope you have nice weather.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Everyone!John

That sounds scrumptious Paguy. I've made quinoa stuffed peppers. Have to give that a go again and it's been ages since I've made salmon cakes. On the agenda for next week. I have two crock pots, a steamer, toaster oven and blenders at the store. Most of my cooking actually gets done here. I'm going to post a portabello mushroom recipe in the recipe section. Got it from a customer. Simple and delicious! Freezes quite well too.
I did some research on natural sedatives and found some things I have to try. I learned NOT to give HOPS to dogs. Causes could be fatal malignant hyperthermia.(whatever that is) She does like to get brushed but I'm not faithful and she's rasta dog right now and doesn't like the sound of clippers.
Wishing you all a good night or morning as the case may be. )

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
It is possible to have a great night on two diet cokes!! I have been into a pub before and not had alcohol, but not THAT pub. I didn't even think about having a lager. Twice! And I danced the night away - once there were a few people on the dance floor.
My knees are killing me, and my feet, partly the dancing but mostly jumping behind the cooker from a chair and back again several times. I really must clean behind there more than once every few years!
Hope everyone is doing ok. This is day 7. Must go to sleep.
I'm feeling great. I never thought I could do this. Keep going everyone.

TECHIE'S 30 DAY CLEAN SOBER CHALLENGE
Hello all! I think you're all doing great, but I'm going to have to bow out here as I didn't stick with it. Had 2 glasses of wine friday, then 5 last night (so why am I up so early? can't sleep of course, it ruins my sleep!). I will get my supplements this week, start using the cd's and read the full book and start a 30 day soon. Thanks for the inspiration - I am staying around!From the Sanskrit prayer;
"....For yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a dream of hope."

Ringing Cedars - it was dust, cobwebs, a big spider, congealed gravy, grease, I got covered in paint and grease and then had to answer the front door!
Babysteps, don't give up, start again, I've been trying since January. Its so difficult. Some things in my life decided to go right for a change and I'm going for it now. I tried and failed several times. I think you have to be in the right place. After only 6 days I'm sleeping better already. I haven't tried any supplements or cds or anything, I have no money or time at the moment! Good luck.

Thanks LO; I believe you are right. At a certain point your mind will just allow you to do it; continuously say no until you rarely need to say no to yourself. Started again today!From the Sanskrit prayer;

But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a dream of hope."

Keep trucking babysteps. If this were easy, there would be no need for MWO, AA, Rational Recovery, SMART Recovery, Alan Carr's Easy (hahaha) Way to Stop Drinking, 7 Weeks to Sobriety, etc. etc. etc. LOL one program isn't enough for me to stay sober - I need two programs. (MWO + AA for me)
Anyway....
MB - congrats on 7 days! that is awesome! Thankfully the same team is doing our 2nd floor as did our 1st floor a few years ago. So at least we know we can trust them! That's important too since the one guy will be practically living here for 6 - 8 weeks. Last time I was "hiding" (ya right) my drinking from him and it was quite annoying having him around all the time. This time will be much better. And if he has any questions, I might actually be able to answer them. :H
Little Owl - :yougo: you GO on your successful AF evening. Is there video of this dancing????
RC I feel your pain WRT grooming a dog who doesn't like it. We have one who is like that about getting her toenails clipped. We muzzle and muscle but that is stressful for all involved! I have read that Melatonin is safe for dogs but you should ask your vet. I haven't heard one way or the other about Valerian. (which is what I personally prefer as a sleep aid!)
Techie I hope your bike ride is going well.
PAGuy, I get to tell you on TWO threads today that I just want to come eat at your house. That is all.
Hello to everyone else!
Day 822 here and life is good. Life today is unbelieveable compared to the dark, lonely, black hole I was isolating in when I finally stopped the madness. I didn't see anything to live for and actually had a suicide plan. Today I love my life. All of my depression and suicidal thinking was AL. It is so worth the struggle to get sober. The reward is out here so keep on fighting! It's worth it!
