SPINNINGJ, WELL DONE 30 DAYS!!! And best of luck with the next 30 -I'm there with you!!
Anon - I thought you were a little young one! Great to see us 'old folks' making a mark on the threads:H:H
Hope everyone is in good form - did you have a nice day yesterday Chill? and Sid, have a lovely day today - put your worries aside for a bit if at all possible - wait till Friday when you will have more news:l
My little shit of a son came in last night from 'football' smelling of drink, apparently had met his girlfriend instead and had cans somewhere. Of course I ate him (he's only 16) but he had a sort of mutinous face on him and I felt he was only a breath away from saying something about me when I was drinking - could have been my imagination, but I didn't feel as confident in my 'giving out' as I should have been.......bugger, is my (ex-)drinking going to haunt me forever!!
Off to work, morning to all else here, will check in this evening

Molly went to see the Doctor this morning and he said I looked 10 years younger and wanted to know the secret?? Did not have the guts to tell him--What a pity. I suppose I think/worry it will not last.

Good hangover free, guilt free, shame free Tuesday to everyone! Happy Birthday to our B-day girls and Congrats to those of you hitting your 30 day milestones!

I havent been posting much but I have been reading your posts and staying inspired. Today is day 14 for me and I feel stronger and more relaxed everyday. I actually LAUGHED and laughed hard with my kids last night. Doesnt sound like a big acheivement but it was not drunk and stupid laughing, nor me laughing at my own jokes or them laughing at me for being drunk, it was honest to god fun and humor. Isnt it amazing how much of the little things in life I/we have overlooked or given up just to drink?

Choice, what a brave reaction to a very dire situation! White wine = CAT PISS! Yuck!! Now we shall cross that one off our list of temptations

Friends are a hard subject. I believe I lost most of my non-drinking friends while drinking. I will have to try to fix that at some point. As for my drinking friends, well it appears that my sobriety has scared them away or at least it has made them "gun shy". Its like they are walking on egg shells while around me. I suppose it could be their own issues with drinking that makes them that way, but that is not for me to decide...that is for them. in the mean time, I will continue to work on myself and in the future either repair the relationships that I have wrecked or make new ones.

Off to work now, hope everyone has a great day..or night, depending on where you are at!

                Happy Tuesday my friends,

Happy 30th to Spinning and Choice bravo!! Happy Birthday Sidney

Isn't it wonderful to have a real genuine laugh, especially with your kids - that's what it's all about.

Talking with my friend this morning and not sure if I am rubbing off on her but she said she is taking a break from AL for awhile. I do feel stronger than I have in years but there is one couple in particular that we have tons of drunken fun with. - funny I never have anxiety after partying with them. It will definitely be a challenge when we get together with them, we don't see each other often but major partying is always involved.

Molly, I feel the AL days will haunt us for awhile, unfortunately.

I am starting to feel like a non drinker again and I am only on Day 24 - Pink Cloud??

                  Hi everyone!

Happy 30 Days to Choice and Spinning!! Brilliant!!! And Happy Birthday, Sid x

Not much happening here, am at a bit of a loose end, but it's all okay. Molly, I know I'm not a mam, so I don't know what it's like - it must be a real worry.
For what it's worth (and that might not be much), I've always found in working with kids that they respond amazingly well to adults being open and honest with them, e.g. if I make a mistake and give out to a kid that didn't do anything wrong, I will try to admit it, etc. Maybe you could try explain that you're worried because you know first hand what the dangers of AL are? And that he probably knows about the dangers too, having seen what AL does - it might even give him the chance to talk with you about how he feels about the past year or two?

Unfortunately, it's normal in Ireland for a kid to drink at 16 - I know I was drinking at that age - I think all we can do is try to make teens aware of what choices they have to make (eg who they drink with - that they're with people who will look after them, that AL has negative consequences etc), cause I know myself that I never listened when I was told not to do something!!

As I said, I'm not a mother so ye who know what its like might all totally disagree with me!

Hi everyone here. Neart am just after checking in here after work and I read your post. My young lad is due in from school in about 15 mins and I was mulling over in my head what to do and say to him - I haven't spoken to him since last night and I had more or less decided to do exactly what you suggested. I think you are one smart 30 yr old - and I'll say it again, you're gonna make a smashing teacher!! Everyone else, I am gathering my wits for J. coming in so will post later for chat, wish me luck:fingers:

                          Sober (AF) September Challenge

                          Evening everyone

My it?s so hard to keep up with everyone at the moment so I?m not going to try tonight. I am tired and going to have an early night with a book, I?m reading One Breath at a Time by Kevin Griffin (recommended by Chill and KTAB) and find it fascinating as I am reading a bit on Buddhism. It?s something I have been dipping into on and off for a few years now and fits in well with my meditation which I feel really helps me to relax and de-stress.

The Zumba class last night was hilarious I have never laughed so much in a long time I thought I was going to wet my pants a few times. It?s a dance exercise class with Latin dance mixed up with aerobic exercise ? hope that explains it but it is pretty fast moving and I was exhausted by the time I was finished, not sure if that was all the laughing, trying to keep up or my age!! :H

On the friends theme I bumped into an old friend yesterday who I haven?t seen in ages and during the course of us chatting invited her over on Saturday night for something to eat and to stay over. She said ?I?ll bring a bottle of wine? to which I replied ?oh I?m not drinking these days and I?ve none in the house, but if you want a drink bring one along? to which she replied ?Do you know I hardly drink these days myself, I?ll bring along a cheesecake instead? I felt so relieved and really pleased with myself it will be great to catch up with her without the wine, we?ll be sober in the morning and can go for a walk or something rather than being hungover.

Tomorrow is Day 29 for me and I?m dead chuffed to be nearly at 30, I can?t wait.

                          Dewdrop :h

Dewdrop, that was very well done - she's obviously a 'normie'!! Zumba an me?.....don't think so, I'd be like a giraffe on speed!
Sid, enjoy your quiet day! Hey Tippylou, Firefox and Tired - all doing well...we are brilliant!!
Anon, keep going at that rate and you'll be 21 by the end of the month:H:H
Neart, I took your advice and I think it went really well. Had a great chat with him and he opened up. I told him that if he was uncomfortable with me 'lecturing' him because of my 'history' that I would get his Dad to have a chat, and he just said that he thought I was brilliant and he was so happy the way things are with me now!! He was all sorry for being a brat and we are on best terms now so - success (for the moment anyway!) I'm exhausted - I hate hassles! gonna explore the threads now so everyone have a lovely night

                              Hi all!

Dewdrop, that zumba sounds fun, although I think I'd fall over my feet if I tried it So glad to hear your friend is bringing cheesecake, both because it means you'll both have a sober night, and also - who doesn't like cheesecake!! Sidney, so glad to hear from you - thinking of you and your husband x Peace and Tired, glad you're feeling stronger

Molly, so glad it went well with your son - I was hoping you wouldn't be annoyed at a non-parent giving unasked for advice!!! He sounds like such a lovely young man - I was talking with my mum recently about chickens and I was thinking of him carrying them on the bus for your birthday - he obviously loves you very much Tippy, love your new pic (and the cat) Hi Anon, Firefox and everyone else!

I was just out at the theatre, my mum and I went to see Anne Frank The Opera. It was very good, and I feel all cultured now! Going to read for a while with a cup of tea.

                              Night all!

                                Hi Everybody,
In this time zone, we are closing down on another delightful AF day.

Dewdrop, your mention of meditation reminded me about bringing up the topic of relaxation strategies. How many times have we heard people say that they drink to relax, to relieve stress??? Here's a link to some ideas if you like: Tips to Relax Your Body and Mind

Some people seem to like the tapes available through this site, I haven't purchased them. I use prayer, going outside in the garden, biking, walking, getting engaged in a craft activity or lost in a good book.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.
