I had a bad case of shakes this morning but instead of my occassional breakfast beer I went to the doctor for Librium instead.

Welcome BradyKelly!
I'm fairly new here as well. Started about two weeks ago. Good for you for going to the doctor! That's a huge step.
Perusing all of the threads is really helpful and you'll learn about supplements to ease your plight against alcohol (AL). The tool kit is helpful too. What I'm finding is it's my mind I have to be on constant guard towards - amazing how strong my mind can be at 5 - 7 in the evening wanting it's habit of wine.
Glad you are here. Lots of great folks here with tons of wisdom and knowledge.

Hi Brady and welcome... that's great that you got your Doctor on board, for me that was the hardest part this time, but once I did it I found it a great help, especially being able to go back a few weeks later and say "Guess what I haven't drank for 4 days", hopefully he'll give you some support.
Like the others have suggested, read, read, read, post and share, there is so much info here..
Mere you are so right about the mind working when it wants it's habit...
Anyway glad to see you here Brady:lAF since 31/08/2010... every day the AF total gets bigger...
So do you drink Lee? .... Actually no I don't Jeff........

:welcome: Brad! That's strong of you to go to the Doctor and get some help. I use to sometimes have a breakfast beer myself to come off a weekend bender. You'll be amazed when you can add up your AF days how much better you will feel. I've committed to a 30 day AF challenge and it hasn't been easy but it's really put my relationship with AL into perspective. Good luck to you on your path and it's great to have you here!!

Just wanted to welcome you to the site and say well done on going to your dr instead of having a beer or more for brekkie. Many a time i had a beer or wine as a cure from a bender only to start all over again which could last a week. I'm 21 days sober with the help of this site and AA meetings. Where are you from? guess you have Irish roots with a name like Bradykelly.

Hi BK!
Good job going to the doctor, I know it's not easy. I couldn't have made it without the help of my doctor, she's been very understanding and a great support. I took Ativan for the first few days to avoid any withdrawal. She also told me that I could take it "on occasion" for anxiety or stress (which I rarely do).
Anyway, welcome...we're glad to have you here!

My Name
jodiex;962574 wrote: Hi Brady
Is Brady a mans name or a womans name?
Just wanted to say hi and stick around its a great site,we are all on this journey together and here for one another
Brady is in this case a man's name, but I have never seen it as a women's name.
I agree, we are indeed all on this journey together, whether we seek abstinence or moderation, we all need to know more about our problems.

Your sister in pain
BradyKelly;959839 wrote: Funny thing with me is when I'm off alcohol I don't crave it. It's only when I've been on it for say a bad weekend, I need my fixer upper on the Monday morning.
I read a link which described me/us as a "special kind of alcoholic." Man I thought, if I had to be special at something why did it have to be as an alcoholic.
I'll be interested in your progress. I'm still in very early days but determined to grab this thing by the neck and shake the living daylights out of it.
Best wishes

In terms of both "special kind of alcoholic", and "denial", I have only really half been in denial for years, as I long ago came to refer to myself as a problem drinker, but not alcoholic because I dont crave AL. It's funny, because I suppose we both fall under that class of alcoholic that can go without drinking, but can't stop once started, but I can even stop once started. I used to regularly drink 3 beers then stop. It's the times when I didn't bother stopping, and it became a 4 day affair that is my problem and prompted me to stop, and later maybe try supported or managed moderation.
Where are you in your progress, and how do you feel?

Welcome Brady.....I have been on this site on and off for about a year and a half now....today is day one for me this time. I am glad you went to the doctor to get meds....that is a big step. It is encouraging to read everyone's posts and see that I am not alone in this. Right now I am just mad at the world because I am an alcoholic......why did I have to end up this way? Oh well.....I will just have to get through this with the help of this site! How are you doing? Still AF?AF Since Sept. 20, 2010!!!
