    Looking for help - Please!!

Hi Everyone, I haven't been on these forums since March. I am hoping someone can help me decide the best course of treatment. I have trying to become AF for close to 2 years ....unsuccessfuly. At my request, my doctor has prescribed topamax, campral and baclofen. I think the campral and topamax (taken during the same frame), helped, but only minimally. Then when I asked for baclofen and starting taking it, I became AF for maybe 2 weeks......but it makes me so tired. It takes me an hour to drive to work, in April on my way home from work, I was so tired I fell asleep at a red light and hit the car in front of me. Thank goodness no-one was hurt, but I stopped taking baclofen because of the accident. So Im asking you to help me decide what meds to take to kick this addiction! I still have campral, topamax and baclofen.
(My doctor has been great in trying to help me, but she doesn't specialize in addiction).

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know that anyone call tell you how to do it in a way that will work for you, NYK, since different things have helped different people. If you haven't tried them yet, you might want to look into group support (AA or another program), or even consider in- our outpatient treatment. It really sounds like you could use some real-life support with this.

      Best of luck,

      xoxo Pride

Welcome Nykat, I agree with Pride, it is a personal thing - I know nothing of these drugs. I would suggest you go to the threads that specialize in meds, someone there might be able to guide you in the right direction!

            Hi NYKat!!!

You said any advice would be appreciated so I will share what I do. I take Antabuse and it works very well for me.

I debated this for a very long long time and did alot of research. I came to the conclution that left up to my own devices, I would continue to fail. Antabuse is a medication where the choice of drinking is taken out of your hands. You will get very very sick drinking on Antabuse and there has been a few reported deaths. You have to be 100 percent ready to quit and cold turkey. I know this sounds scary, and it is scary BUT I was amazed at how fast your brain adjusts to the AF way of life.

I hope you find what works for you, I truly do. Let us know how you get along ok?

When I first started baclofen it made me very tired. The half life of the drug is about 2-3 hours so I would time my doses such that I drove places BEFORE taking the pill and after it had peaked. This sleepiness lasted for several weeks and alarmed my family somewhat. Over time it became less of an issue. Since you did respond to the baclofen you might consider restarting it and going up VERY slowly and timing your drives so they don't occur during your peak med time. It is encouraging that you were an early responder.
              Good Luck
