Trash Day
Tomorrow is trash day. I decided to clean out the cabinet I hide my empty bottles in. I started counting. About 5 of the large wine bottles, 2 large vodka bottles, 3 medium sized vodka bottles and an empty box of wine. It all barely fit in a regular size kitchen garbage bag. I had to double bag it. I waited until I knew my neighbors had already taken out their trash (we share a garbage can) and dumped it as quietly as possible; difficult to do with all that glass klinking. I went through all of those bottles in 2-3 weeks. It's disgusting. I'm so happy I have those bottles out of my house. No more reminders. Done and gone.Tags: None

Yep, Jewels, sure do. Fortunately I have my own wheelie bin and recycle bin, so when I put the 'empties' in I'd put them at the bottom and heap everything else on top. Leaning into a stinky bin to lie the bottles down gently so the neighbours don't hear the clinking is not a good look (I'm just over 5'). I've also carried them out in my handbag and deposited them in service station bins, council bins and (oops) neighbours' bins.
I am always happy after the truck comes and think to myself "There goes more shameful evidence."
I was very happy this week...no shameful evidence to sneak out into the laneway.
Good job on having the house AL empty.

Yes Jewels, like Mishmash, my bottles used to go anywhere and everywhere and I identify with the relief of getting rid of the evidence. I used to feel uncomfortable when Hubs was up in the bedroom cos that's where I used to hide them until I had binned them, I'm sure he wondered why I always followed him upstairs when he was there!! Lovely now being able to tell him or my son to get something out of my handbag either cos I usually had some sort of a bottle in that too so it used always be a 'no go' area for them! Horrible, horrible, horrible - yet another memory we should hold close to us the next time we get a booze urge!

BTW, why does all the literature insist on measuring AL in grams? There may be a medical reason for this, but as a consumer it puts me in a spot. If you tell me x ml of alcohol does y, I know that 2 shots of vodka give me more or less 20ml AL.

:hello: everyone,
In my worst days I used to hide empties everywhere but could never remember where I had put them!!!! Whenever we did a spring clean or change a room round my stomach would be in knots and I would hang my head in shame as the empties were found.
We have just ordered new bedroom carpets and furniture for all 3 bedrooms which means that every cupboard and drawer had to be emptied totally!!!! I was still scared after not drinking for a year that we would find something but we didn't ................
The good thing for me is that now there is absolutely no going back because if hubby found an empty now there is no way it could be old!!!!sigpicXXX

I can relate, Jewels. Like Mish, people in my city have special bins for trash and recycling, so it's much more private. Still, I'd always wheel my incredibly heavy bin to the curb late at night, trying to move slowly so people couldn't hear the bottles clinking around inside. Newspapers go into the same bin, helping to muffle the racket a bit! I'm pleased to say that my recycling bin is at an all-time low these days!
