    Is this real?

I found the MWO information on the web accidentally a month or so back. I bought the book and CDs and have commenced reading them. Is this program real? I was very concerned that when I tried to call Capalo press 1) no one picked up and 2) no one returned the call. I'm very surprised by what this program advocates. Having a background in Biochemistry I always felt this was the approach needed to alcohol addiction but no one ever seemed to be doing anything.

I have been looking for something like this for years and I am happy to say I am planning on trying this program. I am waiting for a local hospital to call me back with, hopefully, news of some doctor who knows what Topomax is. If anyone has experience with a doctor that is familiar with this program in the West Los Angeles area, I would certainly be thrilled to get a referral. The numbers don't look fantastic for Topomax based on what the book shows but it is better then anything else out there.

Does anyone feel it is worthwhile to start the CDs before I actually get into the Doctors office and get the prescription started? I have not finished to book yet and don't know if it is something I should do.

I feel remarkably hopeful at the moment. Yet I feel quite afraid as well. I'm terrified that this won't work. AA hasn't, MM hasn't, etc. I will check back on this site later today.

    Is this real?

    Hi Shred and :wecome:

As you already know, quitting AL is very difficult no matter what program you are using. The My Way Out program is not a magic bullet, in my opinion. However I felt that the supplement program and hypnosis CDs, as well as the diet and exercise recommendations were a tremendous help in taking the edge off to get me going in sobriety. I did not personally take Topa, or any prescription meds so cannot speak to those.

If you are interested in prescription meds as an aid, make sure to read a lot of the posts in the section of the forum where meds are discussed. There is a lot of information there about Baclofen which it seems many are having great success with these days, as well as the Sinclair method and others (and Topa).

I would say start the CD's any time.

      Is this real?

      Hi Shred!! :welcome:
I found the MWO site by accident too in March. I was at my rock bottom, (emphasis on MY) and was desparate. I signed up, read as much as I could in one day, downloaded the book and ordered the CDs and the All One. The next day I went around to the local pharmacies and natural food stores and picked up all the supplements and started them that day. The MWO program and this forum saved my life I feel. I wasn't in immediate danger of dying but the alcoholism and my using was getting progressively worse and I was feeling more and more horrible every morning. I read the book, stayed on the supplements and became a regular member and haven't looked back. I slipped 2 nights, a month apart, but since then haven't touched a drop. I've recently been diagnosed with Prediabetes and possibly early kidney disease do it is imperative that I stop using AL even moderately. I could never do this without this program.
I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you on some of the threads.
      :l

PS: I didn't try any of the meds so I'm sorry I can't help you with that part of it.

        Is this real?

        Hi Shred,

I think a lot of us found this site with a pounding head. I certainly did. Following the program, I went from binging 3-4 nights a week to being alcohol free since mid august. I did give myself a pass on a fishing trip. But since I been back a full week, nothing. People do slip, buts it's a great program and very nice and supportive ppl here.

        Hope ya stay:welcome:

          Is this real?

Hi Shred and welcome. I did use topomax and it worked for me - I started it in December 2009 and was AF (alcohol free) for 8 months - came off it for a couple of reasons - and started drinking again. I have recently started the Topa again and am hoping for good results. My doc wasn't familiar with the Topa but I went armed with info from and about this site and he was quite willing to go along with it (his mum was an alcoholic). I took the titration schedule for the Topa with me so he would know how much to prescribe. if you want to take the topa, on the meds forum, there is a thread called "new here and starting Topa....." which will give you lots of info on oldies and newbies regarding Topa. Everyone is different and it is a hard journey for all of us - but feel free to peruse the site. Also, if you want to, PM me and I will be more than happy to give you any info I can. Again, welcome!!

Sunshine that you for your kind words and the words of those before you. I wish I had planned to start doing this during the week rather then the weekend. It is a feeling of anxiety waiting to see when I can set this appointment up. But I look forward to it.

Sunshine if I may ask, if you had such a nice run of 9 months with the Topa what was it that made you stop? Was it side effect related?

No Shred it wasn't - well not exactly - I had thought it might be but the SE I thought it might be didn't go away when I stopped the topa. Then I broke my foot and was at home and bored and thought a drink would be nice and after all, I had 8 months AF - I could handle one or two now easily couldn't I? yeh right! so here I am back at the beginning. Good luck with it - it is a hard journey but oh so worth it - starting again was the most stupid thing I have done in a long time!

              Hugs, sun
