I was trying to say something funny but lost my train of thought...I guess vodka and Nytol are not a good combo.
Anyway my name is not Moira, it's my dead Aunts name, she died of liver failure in the early 90's. She was an alcoholic.
Her brother P (mums eldest brother) quit alcohol when he was around 40, he was an alcoholic too, but thankfully a dry one until he died on his 70's.
Mums other brother was a hardcore alcoholic and often violent when intoxicated. As a child I remember being frightened of him. He stopped drinking in his 60/s when his legs were amputated due to a booze related condition
Oh Oh I nearly forgot my mum.
She drank for years decades even but still managed "good enough" parenting. She worked and looked after 4 kids without losing control of her habit .
Year's later when her last sibling died, she did lose it. She lost control totally.
She used to drink an entire bottle of vodka until she passed out. She would wake up once the effect had worn off and search for the next fix, she had already hidden.
At times she was very violent when challenged, the worst incident being when she threatened my dad with a knife.
One day she collapsed after a heavy session. She had been hospitalised before but this time it was different. A fit had caused trauma to her brain. She was very weak. She was not able to bully herself home. During those weeks she detoxed. She has never drank again.
Damn the maternal side of my family!
If only I was more like my Dad and his folks. Ah well...
Thanks for reading so far
