Twosox, I think we a re measured by how deeply we feel about our animals. There are some people who just like them ,sure, the dog is good fun, but when out & away the thought of that pet swiftly flies from that person's mind.
But then are people like us. We love our animals dearly. They are part of our soul, our reasons for living, an integral part of our families & in some circumstances, they ARE our families, our children. Be it cat, dog or bird ( RIP my little Lentl) they are very precious.
I have put down more animals than I care to remember on a professional basis, but it does nothing to blunt the pain of losing one yourself.
Hurt all you need to, as it shows heart & compassion & love on another level.

Twosox, I agree with everything that Beagle says, they are more than just playthings, they are your family. I love my dogs with all of my heart..always had staffies...needy and simply loving and loveable. Your heart will heal in time, but they will be with you forever, Saffyx

Beagle-
You are so right...I MISS my dogs when I am away from home. In fact I tell them every night "I missed you today!". They are not just animals to people like us, they are little beings that take over our hearts.
Twosox, I hope you are starting to heal....my heart goes out to you. :h
