Hello I'm here to stop drinking

    Hi Everyone

    I need some help.
I have had a drink problem for 20 years. I am a fully functioning mother of two beautiful children who I love more than anything else in the world. I had previously been alcohol free for 38 days. I did it on my own and my craving for alcohol had gone. During this time I also stopped smoking. Cigarettes and alcohol for me have always gone hand in hand like two terrible friends egging each other on. Today I crashed and have smoked and drank. A lot!!!
I feel terrible for letting myself down. I am committed to being alcohlol free and also nicotine free. I know that I need to dig deep and get on with the whole process of withdrawal again. Nothing is as bad as feeling like a failure. I am here for support and also to give it to others who need it. For the record I was drinking 40-50 units for the last 3 years until I stopped and smoking 20-30 cigarettes a day. I desperately don't want to go back so this princess is going to SUCK IT UP!!! asof tomorrow and looking forward to knowing everyone here.

Thanks for listening and will be back with my hangover in the morning.

Hello I'm here to stop drinking

Hiya Made in England, and welcome,

You have found a great place. Very informative and supportive, and you will likely see yourself in many other folk's stories and post's. I did. I'm in sunny Melbourne too, if you mean Melbourne Australia.
Check out the 'Toolbox' thread here in the 'monthly abstinence' section. It is essential reading i suggest.

P.S. If you are downunder, we have a thread in this time zone called 'Underoo's and friend's', so come visit if you feel that might help.

Best wishes on your journey, and go for it! You can do it.

Hello I'm here to stop drinking

                          :welcome:Welcome to MWO MIE,

Glad to have you on board.:welcome: You will find this site a soft place to land in the struggle for freedom from addictions. I am relatively new here also, about 3.5 months. I have been sober since 21st July and can honestly say that it is due to the friendship and fellowship that I have found here. Settle in, have a look around, there is so much to see and learn. I too am a mum (4 sons) and they are my life. Look forward to talking to you lots. Saff

Hello I'm here to stop drinking

                              Hey Saff!

Thank you for a lovely welcome and Wow! 3.5 months is truly amazing!! You must feel so good about yourself. I know how good it feels to be alcohol free. That 38 days was amazing. The smoking thing is very caught up with my drinking and I have to quit both I think at the same time. No messing about!
Children are a great motivation I think. I don't know how old ypur boys are ( 4!!! You must be a very busy lady!!! Total Respect!) Mine are 8 and 6 and I just don't wantthem to grow up thinking its normal to drink from 4pm everyday to relax. I grew up like that in a way. It normalises alcohol abuse. I love my children and I DON'T WANT MY STUFF to get in the way when they're older. Do you know what I mean?

Look forward to staying in touch and congrats again on 3.5months!!! Will be joining you.

                              mie xx:h
