Newbie: absolutely confused but 3 days sober!

    Hi everyone

I consider myself to be an alcoholic. Unfortunately my doctor does not really agree and wouldn't help me get into a rehab centre.

I drink one bottle of wine 3 to 4 times a week. That may not sound like a lot to you but I definitely feel my drinking is out of control. If I could I would drink two bottles of wine per day but my body can't handle any more than the 3 or 4 bottles I drink per week at present. I drink to escape the past and to escape my feelings. I was molested from infancy and I need to block out the memories. I found myself having my first drink as early as 10am in the day.

I also have systemic candida which seems to affect my alcohol cravings.

I had my last drink 72 hours ago. Since stopping I have experienced very itchy skin and some nightmares.

I am trying to hang in there!

Actually, let me rephrase that: I am DEFINITELY going to hang in there! :new::l

:welcome:Hello and welcome Breakingthecycle:welcome:. I don't suppose it's necessary to have a label - be it 'alcoholic' or 'heavy drinker' or 'problem drinker'. If you consider drink is a problem in your life - regardless of the amount you drink, then it is a problem and you have come to the right place.
It sounds as if you have a lot of unreconciled matters that may benefit from some counselling? Anyhow, welcome here, and have a look around the threads and post wherever you feel comfortable

Hi there and welcome to MWO,

First of all, three days is really great! Alot of people here drink for a lot of different reasons, and what you just described is one of them. I just googled systemic candida to see what it was, and to be honest I'm not familiar with that at all but it can be pretty serious from what I read really quickly.

Alcohol withdrawl is different for everyone, some people suffer from it and others seem immune to withdrawl; but yours sound pretty normal.

Hang in there! Check out the site and get to know some of the people here, the community does help in many ways and there is a vast amount of information as well. Do you know yet if you would like to moderate or go completely alcohol free?

        All the best,

Welcome BTC!! Congratulations on your 3 day achievement and commitment. The candida will definitely cause cravings. You could do a candida detox as part of your plan. For the skin it's probably your liver detoxing. A good Omega 3 supplement, some B Complex and milk thistle would be beneficial. Lots of water with lemons too! All the best to you.

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

I had been worried about my drinking through out the years and tried to get help from doctors too. I kept hearing that I was okay dokey when in fact I really wasn't. Good for you to take this into your own hands. I also would have liked to drink 2 bottles of wine a day, only I was scared of loosing my mind. I pretty much drank 2 bottles a week and binged sometimes during the weekends. I'm around 2.5 months AF now, and life is so much more manageable. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you :l I hope you can feel comfortable here in MWO to heal.

Welcome! I am 5 days sober today. I drank about one bottle of wine a day. Didn't crave it, just drank it. My mind is God's private mystery. When I stopped 5 days ago, I got itchy too, but that has passed and aside from being a little cranky around "wine time", I am feeling great. I always have crazy dreams and nighmares, so that is nothing new. Stopping is freaking hard, but worth it. It takes a while physically, but the mental habit part of it is what is hard for me. Good for you - 3 days is great. Sending positive AF vibes your way. Keep posting, taking supps and drinking lots of water to get the "cooties" out!

                        Hi everyone!
Today is my 4th day! Woo-hoo.
I actually feel quite good today which is a relief. I look and feel quite refreshed after a very long deep sleep last night.
I've been taking high-dose Vitamin B supplements, Omega-3, high-dose Vitamin C, drinking lots of water, eating very healthily etc. I also find that a Magnesium-Calcium supplement is helping. :thanks:

                            :welcome:

Lots of great tips given already, just want to welcome you. My doctor would never think that I had a problem either, I was a very high functioning binge drinker and probably drank the same amount as you with a binge thrown in there once in awhile. I felt like crap, it was affecting my life and well being so it was a problem. Since quitting I feel like a new, confident person. Keep coming here, this site helped me a lot.

As for the candida, I just finished a candida cleanse and continue to follow the eating guidelines and you would not believe the results. I have absolutely no cravings for AL, sugar, bread and feel amazing. The first 30 days after quitting though I was craving everything and eating everything, it was better than drinking, then I tackled the cleanse.

Lots of rest, lemon water and vitamins and this site.....

BTC :welcome: and congrats on your excellent 4 day start. Lots of good advice here already. Just wanted to throw in a couple of things. Be sure to visit the Toolbox under Monthly Abstinence.

I'm echoing what a lot of people here have said - no one would have labeled me as an alcoholic but alcohol was causing major problems for me. So, regardless of the label, alcohol was making my life miserable. I'm new at being sober, but cannot say enough about what a positive experience it's been for me so far.

This site is loaded with informtion - you have to explore it because the advice is spread throughout different threads but it's there. Quite frankly, I've gotten much more from the things written by people here than I did the MWO book. Post your questions and intelligent, caring people will do their best to help you.

                              Sending you peace and strength,
