P.S I think cooking is a trigger for alot of people. Ever notice that cooks or people that cook alot are either overweight or have a drinking problem? I wonder why. . .maybe it's because people spend so much time in the kitchen waiting and they want something to do. What else is there to do in the kitchen while you wait besides drink or eat?

I used to need to cook with "something special" like seltzer and lime, etc. but no longer have that association. It fades with time.
I like that you have lots of options. That's good in case one isn't working for you. I know what you mean about that restless out of sorts feeling. One of those options will surely distract you from it. And it will fade too. Stick to your guns!sigpic

Jenny, I highly recommend the book The Easy Way to Stop Drinking by Allen Carr. The basic premise of the book is to make you think about alcohol in a way that dispels the illusion that there's any benefit at all to drinking it. It really can change your thinking about alcohol so you don't feel like you're losing anything or giving up something! It really helped me, thought I would mention it.
You can do it, and it is sooooo worth it. Sending you peace and strength!

Ok so its 3:40pm I've gotten angry at work, the kids are calling home from school, they have called me 4 times in a 20 min period and now I am angry and annoyed. . .and the thoughts start coming, normally the thoughts are followed by actions, what do I do with the anger and the annoyance? Make that that 5 times in the last 20 mins! You always succeed if you never stop trying.

J - can you do something to diffuse the situation - go for a break, walk around, talk to your kids on your cell phone, then do something after work - go for a walk, take a hot shower. Will your husband help out? Can't remember if he knows you're trying to stop drinking?? Can you go out to dinner since cooking is a trigger for you?

Jenny this is life. Those are all triggers and the trick is to begin to learn to deal with them without alcohol. This was the time when I felt overwhelmed that I used the tool box and found some constructive ways to deal with these triggers and my emotions.
PLEASE give that a try. If it works GREAT. If not come here and get into chat and either I or someone will be happy to help you along. John

Day One
My husband is a beer drinker (I am vodka can't stand beer) so he drinks 2 40oz or 3 24oz a night and I'm not going to say he's not supportive more like indifferent. I decided earlier in the day we would have pizza cause it does not require me to stand in the kitchen. I think I may find a jigsaw puzzle to do with the kids or take the dogs on a long walk, I guess this is the one minute at a time part. . .I still don't have any money so I'm not thinking of drinking right now, I'm thinking of ways to get the money to get the AL to drink, is that any better, it is more challenging since I only have 1 out of 3. Ok so here goes. . .I will not drink from 4 to 5.You always succeed if you never stop trying.

Yeah! I did it! I watched tv with the kids and went to bed at 9. . .I did not drink energy drinks yesterday and did not take sleep aid and I slept pretty well, just woke up once. I have decided to count yesterday as my first day since I did not drink Sunday night but I did drink after midnight Saturday into Sunday morning so Monday was my first midnight to midnight AF. . . so today, Day 2 I feel stronger, I feel better about my decision, and I'm starting to feel half way normal. You always succeed if you never stop trying.

Yay Jenny! Great job! I have 3 kids and hear you about the triggers - sick kids, phone calls, nagging, whining...lol. But dealing wth it sober is SO much better! Seriously. Also, cooking was HUGE for me, but now I drink my spicy tomato on ice with lemon, a Perrier or some decaf green tea, and I'll tell you what - I don't miss my vat of Chardonnay at all! Like Techie said, this is life and we have to suck it up. Life won't change until we change how we deal with it. It's hard, but totally worth it. Good luck and stay close - this place truly helps.February 27th, 2013. A New , Successful Start. :h
