    Sober Beetroot Fourteen Christmas

Hey hey how is everyone, good I hope,

thought I'd concoct an original thread title again..:H

So here I am still sober

Still takin my beetroot juice, and its good, and I am feeling so much better, full of energy, sleeping like a baby.

    Fourteen
, yes today is the big 14 days AF :yay:

    Christmas
..... hmmmm... well wish it was a year away, we are having a big gathering and I feel I will prob have to just mod a bit and re kick off in January, I will see how it goes, but feel a minor xmas TEMPORARY, OH SO TEMPORARY bit of modding, if I do it will only be for xmas THATS FOR SURE, I love my AF life now.

On a more recent note, tried the AF wine, 'fonti' I think it was called, coles had it on special, two bottles for $7 which is good compared to most AF wine its usually more exy than the real stuff.
(probably cos they heat it up to remove Alcohol so another process ups the price)

Well I have to report it was very nice. Being a sparkling shiraz fan, this AF chilled was pretty close, even the OH had some n liked it and said great and no headache!!

So I went back n bought a few bottles of red/white/rose mixed well TEN actually..lol so should keep me going for a while..... might even have some for xmas!

This is way too good not to make it permanent, I'd drank for so long i forgot how good it feels TOTALLY sober!!

Hey Ronkers and well done on the 14 days. I don't want to be a killjoy but just to relate my experience re. temporary modding. the first time I tried getting sober was March 2009, and even up to then I didn't think I was an alcoholic, just someone who could really drink an awful lot - I was your typical 'functioning heavy drinker'. Still knew I drank too much for my own good - copious amounts of wine nearly every day and vodka had slunk in at that stage, so I went AF for 40 days and then went on hols, decided to moderate. I moderated for a week with a bottle of vodka a day hidden in my suitcase and then drank drink for drink with my hubs and friends, ended up in intensive care with head injuries. It took me about 6 months to try again - did 30-40 days over Christmas last year then drank first week in Jan, took me a few weeks to get back on the wagon and another couple of months to get rid of the returned cravings. Completely A1 until kitchen renovation, decided to have one night splurge in May - drank myself stupid and virtually in one night nearly lost my marriage, my kids and my job. Took me another 3 months to rid myself of the returned cravings and am only now feeling strong again. I'm sure everyone is different, but I do wish someone had told me in March 2009 that it wasn't as simple as 'having a few' and then just stopping again - it so so so wasn't for me anyway!!

Molly, thanks for this story. I think it's hard for people to start thinking of getting sober around the holidays. But as your story is a testament to, there really is no good time - one just has to take the plunge and commit knowing that if they don't it will just get harder.

Mollyka - thank you so much for sharing that. Just what I needed to hear as it is very similar to my last year of drinking and I know I don't have another recovery in me. Forty days sober and I'll do whatever the feck I need to stay sober - so thoughts of moderating and being normal "feck off" I'm a drunk and can never, ever have one drink without it becoming my whole life - everything else eg; work, family have to fit in around my drinking and hangovers. Today my hubby told me I looked beautiful and he meant it - I brushed it off but looked at myself and yes my eyes are clear, skin is better, look younger and I've lost that bloated look and 5 month pregnant wine belly. I need to remind myself everyday of all these positives that being sober bring.

Hijinx, you are so right. I have a mental list of things that will disappear if I drink again, marriage, kids, job, car, self esteem, confidence, appearance, weight loss, going to the shops and buying size 12 clothes and pilfering my daughters room for her left behind jeans - vain but PRICELESS!

Well done hunni, hopefully you'll not want to drink over christmas cause.. what's the point? why? If you can honestly answer those then fine but don't ruin how far you've come JUST to have to start at day 1 again.
                      You're doing GREAT! Stay strong.
