    Throwing up - a question

Sorry for the subject line and apologies if this is not the right thread to post in! Wasn't sure where to ask this question...

I have been throwing up on a regular basis for about the last 6-8 months. Never at the time of drinking, but the next morning and sometimes afternoon. Haven't had long enough consecutive AF days recently to know if it's just alcohol related.

But I am now on my second day AF, just had a wave of nausea and threw up - it's mid afternoon and I had a bit of food a few hours ago which went down ok though I didn't really have an appetite.

Often I get up in the morning and have that gag reflex as soon as I see the bathroom or plates/food in the kitchen or think about eating. Is this just some pavlovian response or something more serious?

I'm definitely not pregnant and am a 36year old female. I occaisonally experience some stomach or flank pain but otherwise no other symptoms (besides the regular hangover ones). I'e no blood in the vomit, often it's just 'froth' as I may not have eaten much the day before...

HAs anyone else experienced this and what did it turn out to be? I haven't told my Dr about my problem but fear I may have to to get some medical tests if this doesn't stop even though I am now AF.

    Thanks for your help.

      Now THAT is hilarious!

Seriously, I used to do that. For months, same as you. Sometimes a dry heave or even a random gag. It would even break blood vessels and make tiny red dots on my face sometimes. I figured it was the throes of withdrawal so I'd toss down some AL to quell it. Sadly, that was my solution to any form of withdrawal symptom. It stopped when I quit drinking. It took a week for me to eat with some semblance of normalacy. Stay the course, bean. It is SO incredibly worth it!

It might be part of the detox process. When I stopped drinking I was super-nauseous for the first couple of days.

Hi Bean, I am sorry to hear of your problem. Certainly this throwing up pattern, really should be a very large warning sign for you to stop putting the poison in your body. I am glad that you end your post with the fact that you are now af. Eat healthy foods, lots of liquids, easy on the caffeine - stay hydrated. Fruits and vegetables may ease your digestion, avoid crappy fast food and unhealthy snacks. Be sure to get enough sleep and rest.
I hope you feel better soon, and hang in there - sober.

Will change my avatar when it stops happening!

Thanks for the replies. Digestion has always been my 'weak' point so I'm sure as I get more AF time under my belt it will improve. Seems to be a response to stress as well though of course, I've been adding to the stress on my body with the booze.

In fact I have always had a very healthy appetite until the last 6 months or so when it has gone haywire - another sign to me that things were getting worse.

But...happily day 3 AF today and no desire for the poison...

            Happy New Year everyone!

              Bean--

Technicaly speaking and not to alarm you because I am NOT a doc-- gagging and nausea could be a sign of some esophageal issues--but I found after several AF days that all went away. If it deos not after about a week or so I would go to a doc-- if you feel like you cannot go to your regular doc then maybe to an ER or urgent care. Are you able to keep down food? If so that is a positive.

hi bean, 36 eh,many of us drink to much, our bodies responding to our nelglect to our system,it is not unusal , what your feeling, but i can tell you as you age,it will get worse, not only will it have affected your guts in the lower region, but it will have a huge impact on the brain,im not a doctor, but ive seen many ,some had a clue but many were reaching for stars, not a clue what to do,this is a great site to start, then theres AA, hospital emergency rooms ,psychiatric wards i could go on, the biggest thing is there is hope, one just has to stop with the drinking to much, whether you totally stop or moderate either will be better then where you could be heading,on that note i wish you a happy new year gyco

                  Bean

I was very often sick either the morning afterwards, or later during the day after heavy drinking the night before. Not in the early years but would say certainly for the last 3 years of my drinking.

A period AF is the only way to tell.

Well it's day 4AF for me and guess what? No gagging, dry heaves, vomiting or stomach ache for me today. Could this possibly, by any chance, just maybe be telling me something??!

Heading out for a walk in the woods. Feels good to have energy today.
                    Good health to all.

                              Throwing up - a question

                              Hi guys

BBean - sorry to hear you've been so sick. I've had many of those extended barfing days and they are the worst. They really take a toll on your body so try to take it easy. I used to find when I could finally stomach something that making a cup of Bouillon (you know, that veg or chicken stock powder) was quite comforting. I think it also has salt in it which helps to balance out the eloctrolytes again and it has flavour but isn't 'food'. Feel better soon.

Waggy, nice to hear from you. Seems you are doing really well.

Day 6 (I think) for me. I keep having drinking dreams this week. As long as that's where they stay, that's cool with me!

                              Have a great day all.
