    Jumping through January AF. . . .come join in!

    Choice- Me too! I got myself a fitness trainer and had my first session with him on monday. I am still aching from it! I am still overeating though and hoping that the more workouts I have with him, the more motivated I become. I need to lose ten pounds but I love to eat!

      Wow, Witchy, that was an amazing post the other day, thank you for sharing. Dead on for so many of us, including me. I am GRATEFUL for the freedom you so well subscribed. I am GRATEFUL for every morning I wake up, ready to embrace the day, appreciate the sunrise, appreciate the fact that I didn't wake up at 2AM and not be able to get back to sleep from a night of wine drinking. There is so much I am grateful for now that I am AF for good. I really believe this is it. I have a different view on AL than I did when I tried to stop before, and this forum has really been my aide in doing so.

      Choice, I also stopped drinking, in part, due to a diet change, low carb. I had tried it before, but it just wouldn't work when I was gulping down gallons of high carb in a week, even though it was "dry" red wine. It was still liquid sugar. I have lost about 6 pounds since I stopped drinking 19 days ago...wow, tomorrow is 20!!!! And I love FLYING THROUGH FEBRUARY! Let me get my magical broom and I'll ride it all the way to Feb 28th, clearing out any negative energy that AL still has lingering around, becoming stale with the inside winter air!

      Judestir, yes, I am the one on Atkins...low carb. If you are familiar with their approach, I am about 3 weeks into what is called the "Induction" phase, where you limit your carbs to 20 per day (net carbs...total carbs minus fiber grams). I did slip last weekend cause I had been in induction for the suggested 2 weeks and really didn't loose anything, so I started eating some fruit (fresh and dried) and some whole grains, and it made me gain a few pounds! Weird, it's not like I pigged out on cake or anything. I also had my period and I should have realized that was to blame as I easily gain 5 pounds on that regardless what the diet! So, today I was pleasantly suprised on the scale as I had lost about 6 pounds in the 3 weeks on it. I want to lose just 5 lbs more. Even though I don't have a lot of weight to loose, I think the low carb diet is helping for coming off of AL because it helps with sugar cravings too. I hope that helps! When you say protein, veggies and fruit, it brings the Paleo diet to mind, although you can't have dairy on that either. I was thinking of looking into that, as I miss fruit on Atkins, at least in the early stages. I could give up dairy if I really tried, although I am the cheese buyer at my job (one of the many hats I wear at the store) and it's tough to not be able to "test" the cheeses that you order!

      Witchy, let me know what you think of the Definity...that is one Olay category I have yet to try, I'd be curious if you recommend it or not.

          Wow lots of people on the health and weight loss trail here! I guess I should jump on board that train, too. I have 10 lbs to lose to feel good, and 15 to be looking good in a bathing suit, add another 5 and I might venture into a bikini! I'll focus on the first 10 for now.

          I did the low-carb thing in August and yes, I had to give up AL for that! I wasn't trying consciously to give up AL at that point, just thought it would be a good side effect. Anyway, I did lose 15 pounds and put 5 back on since then. It was very hard though, so I'm thinking of trying Weight Watchers for this 10 lbs. Some people at work are doing that one so I'd have company. Anyway, if I focus on my eating maybe it'll keep my mind off the drinking. Worth a try!

            Speaking of fitness... I am completely sore today, I better see some results.. soon :H
            I've lost 20 pounds since I started... only 10 more to go... who knows, if I just keep up with this it could be 20. That seams so far off right now, but stranger things have happened... like sobering up! Me? It's such a wonderful feeling not to have AL in my life.

              Good Morning Jumpers

              I posted a long post last night about my experience with Atkins but lost it into cyberspace. That's happened twice now when I use my IPad.

              Wow Choice, way to go on the twenty pounds!! So I know you are exercising big time, but what kind of eating plan are you one. Or maybe you are just making healthy choices??? Sorry if you have already told us ...my mind can be like a sieve (how the heck do you spell that??).

              As for Weight Watchers, I think they should pay me to join. I have been a member (without exageration) at least 20 times. The last time I joined I payed over $200 dollars for so many weeks and then I didn't go. I know that WW works for many people, I guess it's just not my thing. I dont like journalling. I don't want to think about food so much, just like drinking, I dont' want to have to think about it. Life seems to short to have to be counting every calerie.

              Just got back from spin class which was great except that one woman came in with a great deal of perfume on and took a bike right beside me. Ugggggggggg...I have allergies at the best of time, this was really tough to take. Every time the instructer sais BReAth...I thought I was going die I CANT BREATH BECAUSE THE WOMEN BESIDE ME IS INFADING MY AIR SPACE!!. I don't mind a little but this was ridiculous. MY rant for the day..........

                I am half way through day 27 AF. I am so happy I have made it this far. My plan was to not drink for the month of Jan, but I feel so good, why would I want to wreck that?

                I am setting my sights for Feb AF. I have a sales convention I have to attend for 4 days in Feb. That will be my biggest challenge yet.

                Congrats to all the Jan people that are still AF. You are an inspiration to me !!!!

                  WineB, I am so impressed! If you can not drink with all that wine you have around then you can do anything!
                  Jude - I love spinning, but I hate the way they cram people in the room -- for just the kind of reason you posted! Such a dilemma!

                    Day 20 for me! I am also going to aim for Feb AF (in addition to the rest of my life!). But one month at a time is a good place to start.

                    Tomorrow is DH birthday, plus I am back to work after my 2 days off. I might not be able to post for a few days as I don't really have time to sit at a computer at work since I'm on my feet all day on the sales floor. But I hope you all have a wonderful AF weekend!

                      Okay - I'm probably going to sound like an idiot but what in the heck is "spinning"? All I can picture is a bunch of people in a big room with mirrors spinning around like you used to do when you were little until you get dizzy.

                      WineBGone - 27 days is awesome! 25 for me and like you I'm blown away that I've been able to do it. 30 and beyond sounds like a good plan - I'm not ready to go back to my old ways - 30 just isn't going to be enough for me and hopefully I'll decide to never go back.

                      Jude - what don't people get about wearing too much perfume? So rude to think everyone is going to not only love the same scent as you, but enjoy the fact that you seem to have taken a bath in it! YUK.

                      Choice, mylife and blondie - you guys all sound diet-conscious! Luckily I'm around the weight I want to be but know I need to exercise more. Just can't get into it when it's cold out and I really don't want to go to the gym with other people. My exercise of choice is walking - helps clear the mind and I'm looking forward to starting when the weather gets warmer. Jeez - how much better will it be without the AL buzz? Isn't that just stupid? Thinking you are doing something really good for yourself by walking but having a couple of glasses of wine before you start out. Sad, sad sad.

                      The end of January is in sight and I'm with you Jenny - "Flying thru February" sounds like a great idea!

                        Jolie a "spin class" is exercise bike riding in a group with an instructor. Took me awhile to get it too!

                          I have a convention on in February too. Last year my company posted photos from the social evening in the newsletter and there was one of me dancing (after several wines). OMG!
                          Not this year. I think I might register with Feb Fast in NZ and get sponsors. If I send an e-mail round work inviting people to sponsor me they will know I'm not drinking for February and that will make the social evenings easier. There is also a pool at the hotel and loads of beautiful walks nearby, so there will be no excuse to put any weight back on.

                            That's funny about spin class. I always thought it sounded like a knitting circle. I just started doing that one too.. I basically am just really into group fitness. I get so bored if I work out alone and I'm trying everything out at the moment. I always feel so awkward the first couple of classes like the first day of high school. But I figure -whatever- Actually gaining this weight has been really freeing in a lot of ways in regards to my body image. I just don't care what I look like when I exercise. I know nobodies looking at me anyway so I might as well just go for it.

                            As far as diet Judestir, I refuse to be on one. I just eat smaller portions for dinner, and basically try and make healthy choices through out the day. Mostly I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. And cut out cheese. (I love cheese) but that's really the only tough one for me. The exercise is fun and all, but it's a lot of work! So I just am not attracted to high calorie foods. Mostly because I just don't want to burn it off, so it's not worth it. I really just want results without being hungry. I guess I'm eating healthy out of lazyness.

                              I tried the Cambridge Diet once. It worked but it's very harsh. Crash diets dont do it for me. They are not realistic.

                                Hi All, shooting out the door, sorry haven't been round much, my daughter is here and all her 'entourage', cannot believe she has so many friends, the house is like O Connell St. I'm loving it but a horrible little part of me longs for my quiet life and clean house haha! Don't mean it really - just love having her home!
                                Re. the weight and exercise stuff. I lost heaps of weight naturally when I gave up drink, but wasn't toned looking at all even tho my job is very active, but since christmas I've been using the bus and have short walks to and from bus stops. I have lost another half stone since then and definitely my body has shaped up wow - and when I say short walks - literally 15 mins brisk walking twice a day - it's miraculous! Anyhows will deffo be back later - too many here to even name!!
