Bloody hell you lot - I go to work and everyone goes AWOL! Well done Akasoto - that's a seriously great start - maybe come and check in more often - we love new blood on the thread
Hi Jenny yep we is doin good girl!!
Oney, the hair update, deffo softer and a bit shiny but it was mad itchy last night and I didn't rub it into the scalp - I washed it this morn with ordinary shampoo and conditioner and it is a vast improvement on before. Girl at work was telling me there is stuff called Mexican oil she gets in the hairdressers and it is magic - she does have lovely hair, 17euros a pop tho, so bit pricier than olive oil! Anyhows, back to my book -A reliable wife by Robert Goolrick, it is a brilliant story, have to finish it tonight so hope it has a good ending.

Hello there!
I've not posted for ages but I'm happy to report that I'm still blessedly AF. I was a little nervous because I was back in the UK for the first time in over a year to visit with family and friends but I managed to cope with pubs, dinners and lunches at lovely restaurants, a christening and a reunion all without AL - and sure, there was the odd time when I wished I could have a glass or two but I just kept telling myself it's NEVER been just a couple and once I have that first drink my resolve goes out the window and I'll keep going till I pass out..... that, and the thought of dealing with a hangover, made it easy to say no. Oh, and it also certainly helped with everyone saying how good I looked! There were lots of questions about why I wasn't drinking and I just answered on a person by person/case by case basis -- ranging from "I'm on medication" to "I was drinking too much and it's easier not to drink at all". Most people seemed to assume it was just temporary and I didn't bother to correct them. I figured that the next time I see them I'll just say that I feel (and hopefully will still look!) better not drinking so I'm going to stick with it.
It's so good to see familiar faces here as well as new ones! I hope to be around more once I've caught up on the home front - I realize that I take a lot more from this place than I give back and I'd like to change that this year because this forum has been instrumental in my journey to getting and staying sober. I've learned so much about this addiction and ways to fight and cope with it - everyone is so generous posting about the good and not so good experiences - and I must say that I'm eternally grateful that I've been able to learn through others.:heart: AF since 29th August 2010

Hi enja- a lovely positive post. My journey in getting and staying sober started seven months ago and its the best thing I have done in a long while. It's so empowering to have control over AL isnt it! x
I am really liking this hair talk!
Blonde- I have very dry hair but it still gets greasy for some reason. I have been using Keratase products but have noticed that I am suffering from itchy scalp recently. I thought of the olive oil but Molly said it made her head itch even more so maybe thats not for me. Can you suggest anything?
Molly I have heard of moroccan oil too. Who has used it? I have been told that it's amazing but it could be just hyped it. A bit like the serum from Boots. It's rubbish.
Infact, does anything really get rid of wrinkles?Be strong-

Hi Jumpers! Not only are we going to be fabulously AF but we are going to have fabulous hair to boot!
Molly-That is weird about your scalp itching after the Olive oil treatment...I have never experienced that before. I do get an itchy scalp a few days after I color, but I know it's from the bleach in the hair dye and that it will go away in a few days.
Itchyness is often caused by dryness, like when you have dry patches on your skin, it itches. So, Rebirth, perhaps a really deep moisture treatment would benefit your scalp? I would suggest one that you leave in (if you have the time). Even if your hair is oily, it will benefit from a moisture treatment on occasion. First, shampoo your hair, then apply a moisture mask (there are several good ones on the market and I'm not sure what is available to you), but if you can land your hands on a tub of L'Oreal's Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Nurturing Creme (this is not found in drug stores...you can get it at professional beauty supply stores or a salon...I am in the States and get mine at Sally's Beauty Supply. $12.00 for a huge jar, it's cheap but a total holy grail), it is a honkin' yellow tub with a green top which is not user friendly, I might add, but the stuff inside is like hair crack! Anyway, apply a moisture treatment on your wet hair, and leave on for 5-10 minutes. It would be ideal if you could do this while having a bath and really let it sit on your scalp for a while (like an hour!). That should help with the itchyness. If I see any other recs, I will email you. Another note on the moisture mask...just make sure it is a hydrating one and not a protein one, as too much protein could dry out your hair and I wouldn't put it on an itchy scalp. If you blow dry frequently, that might be a culprit too, so you may want to let it dry naturally if you can. The less wear and tear on our hair the better! I only wash my hair 2 or 3 times max a week...used to wash it everyday and it was really dry. It's good for the natural oils to be able to penetrate into your hair. Just a suggestion on what has worked to save my hair.
On protein treatments, I could go on and tell you all about my experiences with the Apogee 2 Step Protein Treatment (another Sally's holy grail), the MOTHER of all protein treatments...during part of the application it turns your hair stiff as a board (as the protein sinks in). But it works unbelieveably well and you only do it once every 6 weeks, but it takes an hour to do and the smell is less than desirable.
I would love to try the Moroccan hair oil...seems to be the rage right now. I have so many hair products though that I like, so I'm going to use up what I have before splurging on yet another one! But then again, we are not pouring money down the drain on AL so why not go out and get a bottle of something new to try...lol? Can you tell I am a beauty product junkie? One product I am really liking as a leave in treatment after I towel dry is called Redken Anti-Snap, it is a mild, leave in protein treatment and makes your hair feel like silk and smells divine. I've never heard of the Mexican hair oil Mollyka...I wonder what that is like?
Welcome to Akasoto, you have come to a great place! Congrats on 10 days AF! I am pretty much right there with you at day 11!

Oh my gosh, I am loving this hair treatment talk! I think I am sold on the olive oil treatment at the moment because I know where to find it down here. I've had a wonderful day. I am just feeling so thankful that I found such an amazing yoga instructor she actually spent four hours with me today. We spent the majority of the time doing deep relaxation and some simple postures to help with cramps, and some very deep breathing exercises. I feel so happy that I gave up smoking. The air felt so pure and I really feel like I'm healing. I have to thank everyone here as well. This truly is a wonderful thread. I love the "oldies" and so many wonderful new people are jumping in that I am really enjoying getting to know. Alright!!! gush gush!! :h:h
