Hi there WWC glad you are seeking help.
I think what you need is a concrete plan to get sober.
have you looked at some of the tips here?
The tool box is a good place to start for motivation.
I used large doses of Kudzu and Lglutamine and they did help plus the day to day support here.
Maybe think of starting with 30 days sober?

        Hi hunni *hugs*
You know, i work for the nhs and ALL or my work collegues go on and on and ON about drinking everyday. I think we have a LOT of pressure on us and see and deal with things that make us feel we need to drink, almost as a block or a stress reliever but it's not true, it makes us worse.
I found the best start was to get rid of ALL the al in my house and change my routine so i would never find myself in a shop selling the stuff. When i had to buy food, i'm buy online cause of the AL RIGHT at the checkout with the deal signs. Keep checking in here when you get cravings and hopefully we can help you make it through each day.

Hey. A drink-driving awareness course organiser told us that one of the worst pieces of health advice has been that red wine is good for you. When they used to say 1-2 glasses, they meant 125mls and who ever has a glass that small these days?

Studies actually show that non-drinkers are much healthier, like for like but they aren't headline grabbers.

WWC, hello and welcome. It is very very tough to admit that there is a problem, and that you need to change. You have completed this first step. It does seem overwhelming to think about a life without drinking, so focus on one step at a time. You need to start getting one sober day under your belt at a time. You can do this. Read and write lots in here, there are so many kind people who can help.

It is not easy to change our habits, our lifestyles, and to fight the urges, but it is possible. It is very much worth the battle. Hang in there,
                Hill

                  Hi Whenwill,

I think the vast majority of people who try reducing or stopping find that the first time they do it, it doesn't stick, so don't be ashamed about coming back with a new alias etc. It's a really hard addiction to beat - so tough that we often underestimate just how hard it will be, how much support we will need and certainly many of us think 'that's it I'm cured' and experiment with drinking again.

Well done for coming back - if you truly want to beat this thing you can, as long as you put the work in. Read and post and ask for help and advice from people who are living sober.

Good luck and I hope to hear of your progress,
                  K x

                      startingover,
how much Kudzu did you take a day? The bottle says up to 3 three times a day. What about glutamine, the stuff I got does not say L-gluatmine just the glut.
                      thanks

                        Hi Willing,
Welcome back. My first question is what is your goal, to moderate or to go AF? If you plan to moderate, are you going to do at least 30 days or more AF before attempting to mod? Keep in mind that "a little wine" might be healthy but over doing it, is not healthy in any way shape or form!

I used Kudzy and L-Glut to help control cravings, I took bot 3 times a day and in times of heavy cravings, I took extra L-Glut. I believe these supps really helped me. But, and here is the BUT, it is not an instant CURE! These help to take the hard "Edge" off the cravings, but you still have to work on th mental and emotional issues concerning alcohol. I do believe that the first issue for all of us is to completel surrender to the fact that you cannot and will not drink.....period!

                        Best Wishes to You!

                          Hello Whenwill,

I take L-Glut twice a day. I tried Kudzu two or 3 times a day -- but really like Kate said, they're no miracle cure. I feel that the miracle comes from within you. I recommend lots of reading to start looking at drinking differently -- not as a reward or something you enjoy, but for what it really is -- an energy sapper that leaves you dehydrated and depressed. For me, that has really helped when I start craving -- I think what am I really craving? To feel tired and depressed again??

Good luck with your personal trainer -- great idea to take your mind off it for awhile!

                            help me please

                            welcome back wwc,
i have come and gone myself, both to this site (once before, different, forgotten alias), and to the drinking life and back. and forth, and back, and forth. the stories we tell ourselves, like our drinking is ok, like that's how they do it in many other cultures, bla bla, can be very sinister assists to the beast in our head that wills us to drink.

i just wanted to hop on this thread and wish you well. the first part of the struggle was the hardest for me. (that was the part when i was getting really depressed and ashamed of my habit, knowing i had to stop but couldn't/wouldn't. sounds like you're there now.) but with sobriety life has rapidly improved. it's not always easy, but there's nothing like the renewed self-esteem, energy, hydration, and healty appearance that have come with putting the bottle DOWN.

keep reading, let us know how you're doing. i've found the book Rational Recovery to be helpful (i think there's also a website that may be more immediate - it's about recognizing the addictive voice and denying it any power). and working out has been a tremendous support for me. 'tis good you have that.

stay tuned and please keep us posted. rooting for you here.
