Hello everyone. I have visited the site before but never posted till now. I drank two bottles of red wine last night and can't remember going to bed. I guess I need help, I can't go on like this. I know it but even now I am thinking about what I'll drink after work. I need to break this cycle, please help!Tags: None

I read your thread and had to respond. I to have a particular love for red wine, and I remember not remembering! Not a good feeling, in particular when you have kids. I am here to keep my mind focused on not drinking, and what better way then to surround yourself with thoughts of not drinking. For me the witching hours are the evenings!I can go all day and not crave a drink, infact usually I'm thinking about how I won't drink tonight, and I 'm ashamed of myself and all those other thoughts that we carry with us.....only to come home and talk myself right into a "few drinks" ya know fooling ourselves. I am sooo tired of this feeling and want to be free. How about we vow tonight to not drink? Just for tonight.....then we can talk about tomorrow night tomorrow!

Hello Vintage. My advice would be to really make a committment to yourself just to get through the day without wine, and then worry about tomorrow when it comes. There is lots of good advice here and I would recommend reading lots of posts -- especially in the Tool Box to help you through tonight.
Good luck, many people here have stopped drinking and you can too!

Hi hunni . Welcome. I know where you're coming from. If you really want to quit, you need to use all your will power and not pick up that bottle for that first sip! I think the best thing to do is get rid of all the drink in the house, list the reasons why you need to stop, stick them places so why your doing this is constantly reminding you. It's important to stay busy, change your routine.. So instead of drinking when you get home.. Go for a walk, have a bath, clean the house. It's not easy to quit but it's well worth every second when you succeed, even if you just get 1 day ad under your belt... Well worth it!

vintage girl, ~ what everybody else said. You can do it, just don't get caught up in thinking about down-the-road and whether you'll be able to maintain it. Right now, focus on one day, this day, or at most, tomorrow. It'll be an uncomfortable day or two, but very soon--much sooner than you can imagine--you'll feel better than you have in a long time!
If you've tried to stop before and had any severe withdrawal symptoms, do get some help and support from your doctor, too. Be safe and be well. You can do it!Resisting all Magical Thinking...one day at a time

You should download & read the MWO book to get you started, it has a lot of good info.
Making a firm commitment to quit & a good plan for yourself is a good start.

Wow, thanks for all the support! It really is helping especially about how I am going to go about it. This morning I felt I don't know where to start, now I know I need to make a plan and stick to it. There is some wine left in the house, probably enough for two glasses. I am so afraid I won't be able to sleep but I know two glasses is better than two bottles and it is a small step up for me that I didn't stop and buy some more.
Thanks for the advice, I am going to download the book in the morning and really start to think about my plan. I am not a daytime drinker, even at weekends but if there is booze in the house at night I know I'll drink it. I just have to find the will not to buy it. Down and out, it's so nice to meet another newbie, let's stick together! I can't promise for tonight, but tomorrow is looking a little better for me thanks to you all. :thanks:

Hi Vintage girl, and welcome. The cycle that you are talking about is very tough to break, but it can be done. You can do it, and you can start today. Read and write lots in here, there are many kind people who can help.
You may want to look at getting some sober time under your belt, so you can clearly think about your drinking, and whether moderation or quitting all together is best for you. Get through today without drinking. One day at a time.
