Near the end of day 3 and going okay. Keeping up my routine of drinking water, chocolate and eating regularly. Been frustrated and angry but cravings not bad. Some danger periods in the future such as a motorbike tour with a group which involves a fair bit of alcohol but I'll be thinking of early mornings and a clear head Might start running again too......release some endorphins and feel good.Looking forward to a good sleep tonight.
Have a great day / night guys

Morning lovely peeps! Can't even begin to mention everyone - this is way too busy - great! Just great to hear everyone so positive!. Funny Blondie - that holiday doesn't sound too scary to me. In a perverse sort of way I quite like seeing people pissed round me, it makes me appreciate being sober and I love the idea of the book - I would love to write one about all this, and from working in a library I know there is a gaping hole for 'true life' sort of stories as opposed to self-help books - I'd just have to change so many places and things it would be nigh on impossible for me.

Jim, about 8 yrs ago we were in California, celebrating our 25 wedding anniversary and we came across a whole heap of 'motorbikers on tour' sort of thing and hubs was fascinated by them - he adores motorbikes - has a lovely oul Harvey himself, and they invited him back to their campsite to see their bikes and party. I declined and of course went back to my hotel room with a bottle, but he went down and had a brilliant night and not a DROP of drink between them!! He was inspired by them!
Anyhow going to sort out my clothes and stuff - am heading off to a lovely posh hotel for the weekend. Not sure how it will go, hubs and I are going to try and reconcile and talk things thro, so could be interesting!
Will be back later after work!

              Morning all,

One of the only benefits to being self employed is when something like today happens. Nice mild weather, no appointments, so I'm dropping everything and going for a long run. My half marathon is three weeks away. Everyone have a great day!

The start of day 4. Woke with pangs of anxiety as usual til I got up and got organised for work then they subsided.

I'm not even concerned about it being Friday which usually means 10-12 beers watching the football tonight. I know that I can knock any craving on the head with a few strategies I have like drinking chocolate milk or as per last night eating an orange - no way I could drink beer after those!! Keeping myself full works as well.

It's when i get lazy that I think well it's been a week, one or twelve won't hurt. This weekend I'll have to be very disciplined esp as I have outside work to do which ALWAYS ends in a few beers (well, most of the time I had beers on the go as I mowed the lawns!!) so will have to prepare for that.

Molly, the group I go riding with have abstainers and party animals. I'll side with the abstainers and let the pissheads go til dawn. I'll look forward to daybreak and a nice clear head, no hangover and a good day's ride ahead. California would have been great. I'd love to go there.....hmmmmmm, a US bike tour for my upcoming mid life crisis!!

Shame a mate of mine just moved back from Texas - I had planned to go visit soonish. Nevermind, I know people in Denver, Colorado.

                        Evening guys

Molly - have a great weekend and give it your best shot

BlondeAF - I love the idea of writing about sober vacations! I've just realized I haven't had one yet. I usually choose action holidays like ski-ing, cycling or hiking so AL will not really be a big issue.

Wishing you all a wonderful sober weekend ahead

                          Hey Chillgirl

Great idea re adventure sport holidays. I managed to go a Fri night without a drink because I was driving a V8 race car the next day as a Christmas present (8 laps driving). I did not want to be hungover for that.

About 11 years ago I did a 2 week tour of New Zealand and did the whole thing - sky diving, downhill luge, glacier walk etc etc either drunk or hungover. Believe me, jumping out of a plane at 9000' with a massive hangover after a huge night in Queenstown is NOT pretty!! I pretty much drank for 2 weeks and had the most sorrowful depressive episiodes I've ever had.

I was just reckless but those 18-36 year old tours are designed around drinking and partying and should be avoided. I'd love to go back and do it sober!!

Marching through March - come on and join us !

                            Morning all,

It's friday morning here, and the start of Day 13 AF for me, the most I have done since I can remember.

it was a tough one last night, DH invited workmate round and they stayed up drinking till the wee hours, I even went to bed without dinner, as DH only called at 7.50pm to say he was bringing said mate home for dinner (after they had a few beers) and I had not cooked enough for three, so thought it was best I laid it all out for them and vacated the premises so to speak, and left them to it. Not a bad result for me though, as American Idol in bed, is a pretty good thursday night.

So this morning, after a broken night's sleep with DH snoring and alcohol fumes wafting my way, I walked our two dogs and have cleaned up the utter pigsty of empty bottles, cigar ash, dishes, glasses etc, and have just sat down to my morning coffee. Bliss.

The weather is beautiful, and I can see a gorgeous day ahead relaxing by the pool reading a book, and even a gym session. Oh, and the weekend here, is friday/ saturday. DH is in bed and I am sure will not be surfacing for a while.........

                            Have a great weekend everyone!

                              Morning Marchers

JimG - oh I remember those depressive episodes well! I travelled extensively in my early 30's and sadly drank myself round the world. I hope one day to do it again with my sober head on and see it for real this time!

Louie - you should be very proud of yourself for last night, it would have been easy to join in the party, well done! Enjoy your awesome unhungover day.

We have thunderstorms headed our way over the weekend so I'm going to grab the little bit of sunshine still around this morning, hop on my bike with my iPod and cycle my cares away
