Marching through March - come on and join us !

I'm really struggling tonight - my usuall Friday I'd be near poleaxed by now but instead sober as. Had milk, dinner and an orange (really need chocolate) and will not drink but day 4 was the hardest so far. Lotsa headaches too . I'll be right and see it through as I reckon this is a trough among peaks. Have a good one all.

Oh and Louie, well done mate, great resistance but a shame you missed out on tea!

      Hay guys
Jim - stay strong you are doing really well, I know some nights have seen me litterally sitting on my hands to stop myself from going out to get something to drink, buts its always worth the effort. i also used to find coming home & getting straight into my pj's would help, then I would feel more like curling up with a good book than drinking.
I am so excited to be sober, i am tired of all the things that AL gave me - guilt, shame, anxiety along wth all the physical aspeccts of a hangover.
I am looking forward to embracing all the things being AF gives me - clarity, joy, happiness, energy, peace, gratitude.

we are the resistance fighters, battling the beast!
hope everyone had a great day/night.

Yes... all those drunken adventures. So many places, so few memories

Jim - doing well mate, keep it up.

I've been invited to a 40th birthday tomorrow night.
It's been a long time since I been to a party. I pretty much stayed home and drank alone over the last couple of years.
I'm not sure I can recall ANY party in my life, when I did not drink at all.
Must say, I'm a little scared....
Can I have a life please, make it a double - I've got some catching up to do!

I'm kind of in the same boat Bugalugs. An old drinking buddy and his wife want to treat me for some work I did for them no charge. Normally getting together would start with a few drinks, dinner, bar for more drinks, then back to their house for more. It was way too soon a few weeks back so I delayed it. I don't want to be a sober isolationist but I need more firm footing right now. Hope everyone has a great AF weekend!

            Morning Marchers!
Molly I hope you have a lovely weekend with your hubs :l. I'm having a dinner party on Sunday which usually involves lots of wine! So I've stocked up on lemonade and bought one bottle for the guests (they don't drink much) and if they don't finish it they can take it home! Day 6 here and feeling good. Just been to the gym . Feel pretty much back to normal after my week long drinking binge ! Cringe .
Hope everyone stays strong and enjoys a sober weekend!

                  Hi all Marchers!

Sounds like everyone is gearing up for a great sober weekend! For those just starting out...don't let you guards down!

I really enjoyed reading the posts here about sober travels/adventures. I would like to hear more of them actually. Maybe that should be it's own post. Chillgirl, I have also traveled a bit in my past drunken life and I too, wish I could recoup it all with sober eyes. But now is a new life and all travels out there for me will be sober, this I know. Just like I won't be waking up hungover again. Ever.

What worked for me in keeping AL out of my nights (along the lines of what Witchy said...by the way, HI Witchy! Love to hear you post about all of the positives about life w/o AL!) is getting home and doing something right away instead of lingering and letting the possibility of wine win over. For me, I used to get through the door and before I had my coat off, I was pouring a glass of cab and had already drank 2 glasses before doing anything else. Then I would settle in and continue drinking more glasses until eventually a bottle and a half were gone! So, to break that habit in the very beginning, I would come home and shove some food into my mouth...lol. Good food, not junk. So I wouldn't feel hungry. If I ate dinner right away when I got home from work, the craving for AL lessened tremendously. Then I would make a cup of herbal tea and either watch TV, read a book, talk with hubby, come on here to read and write...etc. So, it's that action of coming home and immediately doing something to take the place of reaching for that first glass...the killer. I hope this helps anyone out there...heavens knows, you've all helped me more times than I can count and for that I am eternally GRATEFUL.

Peace to everyone, have a lovely, healthy, clear-headed, "can't wait to wake up sober on Monday morning" weekend to all!
Whatever you invest in the circle of LIFE is what comes back to you. Multiplied. What you give to people is what they eventually give back to you. Don't do the math. Just increase your LOVE.

                  BE HAPPY...BE CONNECTED...BE HEALTHY!

Good evening Marchers. Looking forward to a hangover over free Saturday morning. Tonight I felt very cranky, and a little wobbly. Like Pavlov's dog, it's Friday night and my body was looking for booze. I proposed we get Thai take away, so I would not have to cook, as that is such a trigger especially on the weekends. Now I am sober and ready for bed.

BlodndAFambition - good point you make about keeping busy when trying to fend off the beast. Idle hands and devil's work. Anyway I wish you all a good night and even better morning!

Evening guys and WOW how well are you all doing - it's amazing how busy this thread is. I'll catch up over the weekend but I have to say I am so impressed with the focus and dedication so far. Friday night is often a trigger for many so just hang in there and imagine how brilliant you will feel waking up on Saturday morning wih no hangover, bright, alert and ready to tackle the weekend.

                      ODAT folks,

Well done louie on your 14 days AF :goodjob:
Not tonight I was the same as you last night. When I was cooking the dinner I was thinking of drinking the wine I'd bought for guests on Sunday! I didn't though and the craving passed as soon as I sat down to eat! Phew!
Day 7 for me today and feeling good about it! Hope everyone can stay strong and enjoy a sober weekend.

Good morning everyone. Its great to see another busy tread full of goals and determination. Its day 7 for me and so far no major cravings for al. I agree with Alan Carr when he says its poison and al should be bottled as devasation lol. Going to head in to town this afternoon Dun Laoghaire is a short bus journey away. I'll go a walk along the sea front and may be get a coffee. There is an afternoon AA meeting nearby at 3 or 3.30 so i might drop in tho it will my first since last year. Feeling good moodwise apart from this head cold which has me groggy when i wakeup but at least i don't have a hangover on top of it lol. Have a great saturday and keep strong.

Just realized that it is 62 days for me today!!! I had to get the calender out and count the days again. I had lost track. In the beginning, I knew how many days I had like the back of my hand, now I have to go back and count. Kind of a nice feeling actually.

Love the good energy on this March thread...keep on truckin' everyone! Have a blessed weekend!
