Maybe, but you seem so positive Audrey too, you can get there:l

Going to take some time out drink a cofee and reflect on the last 60 days and focus on the next 30....

Just cleared out my old clothes and debating hitting the garden next, not a nice morning here, so maybe my excuse is ready

"Alcohol doesn't console, it doesn't fill up anyone's psychological gaps, all it replaces is the lack of God. It doesn't comfort man. On the contrary, it encourages him in his folly, it transports him to the supreme regions where he is master of his own destiny."

Ok, i found one more..just want to share.. scary.. i like Duras but i'd like to argue about man/women issue..but probably she's right..women doesn't have so much tolerance to AL...

"When a woman drinks it's as if an animal were drinking, or a child. Alcoholism is scandalous in a woman, and a female alcoholic is rare, a serious matter. It's a slur on the divine in our nature."

                Hello April Gang!

Leave, congratulations on 60 days!! That must be an amazing feeling. Congratulations!!!

Audrey, we went to a Good Friday Mass last night also. It was very moving and I reflected a lot as well.

Today, I am going to focus on not feeling deprived but feeling liberated by not drinking Alcohol. The last couple days I've found myself slipping into deprivation mode and it is so much harder to do with that mindset than when I'm feeling grateful and happy that I don't drink.
                Have a great day gang!

Hi, everyone, hope you are all having a nice AF Easter.

Been busy in the garden with the weather being so lovely at the moment. Day 21 today, can't believe it has been 3 weeks, amazing really. Only a couple of really tempting thoughts and I am determined to do the 30 days. I gave up crisps for Lent, I know it should be chocolate but I don't eat a lot of choccies and I do (or did!) eat A LOT of crisps, so tomorrow if the big day when I can have my first little packet of crisps, and I think I will actually enjoy them rather than just shoving them into my mouth at a great rate of knots and not evening enjoying my little treat!

I have never given anything up for Lent before, so it has taught me a couple of things. I don't actually need crisps! and that if I set my mind to something I can achieve it. I think my snacking, smoking and possibly alcohol problems are to do with control for me. From a young age I had very little control over major parts of my personal/social life, so when those controls were removed, I took control by 'rewarding' myself with things that seemed 'naughty' and would't have been approved off, just to 'show them'!.

Ridciulous really, but I deifnitely think it was the 'because I can' mentality which so many others have mentioned.

Well, 9 days until my 30 and in that time I am going to plan for what I will do or not do then, but one thing I know it won't is going back to the way things were efore. I have kicked smoking, am controlling my weight now, I am not going to ruin all that by taking a major leap backwards with wine!

Sorry, rambling now, wishing you all an awesome Easter, you are all doing so so well and I wouldn't be here, Day 21 without your support :thanks:

Sorry to hear you're strugglin Noodle, distraction is also a great habit. I often find if I go out shopping or walking or anything when having 'those thoughts' they just sort of .... go away. Long weekends and stuff can be definite 'triggers' when we start off - they are only days - if other's want to go and get wasted - let them. Just think about your head in the morning and theirs!! - bet you'd rather yours!!

                        Hi all,
Molly . . . a little retail therapy is always a great distraction!!!! LOL
I am on day 8 no wait day 9!!! A splash in the bucket for many of you but huge for me!!!! I agree, filling my evenings with distractions helps. I actually watched Harry Potter last night and made it to the end . . .after 11 pm - amazing!!! Pointing out to myself how good I feel every morning helps too!!! Next week will be my challenge as vacation is over and it is back to work and the evening routines that I need to break!

Oooh! Audrey reading posts backwards now!! I like your quotes. Alcohol replaces the lack of God. I do feel that alcohol has definitely been a barrier in my personal relationship with God. The shame of it for me makes it hard to turn to that higher power. For the last 2 nights I have gone to Holy Week services at our church. They are SO much more meaningful without the AL distraction or obsession.

                            Hello April Aimiers!

Audrey, I must not have seen your posts this morning. Very nice quotes and very thought provoking!!

Noodle, don't feel badly, I'm on day 23 today and I have really been struggling since day 20. I'm not sure why but before that it seemed too easy. I knew it was too good to be true! But I guess there's a little work involved in anything worth having, so I'm willing to keep at it and see where I get. I'm also convinced if I can just make it to 90-days for some reason that I will stop missing my wine. I hope I'm right!! I also hope I don't gain too much weight before then! :H

River, welcome! Great to hear from a new voice.

Hi Molly! Thanks for popping in for support. Good luck with your gardening.

Mornin Mylife and Audrey and all else around! Mylife, I found the 3 week mark tricky - also for the record the 3 month mark - really not sure why, it's something to do with where I was in my head I think - 3 weeks - the main physical advantages had sort of already happened 'I'm healthy now, maybe have a drink' sort of thoughts - 3 months, the emotional complications can click in - you're looking at your life, personality - everything - sober. They can be stumbling blocks for lots of people, but it only lasts a few days and then you're on to the next lovely step in this whole journey.
Hope you all have a lovely day - I've the garden done for today and like Audrey, i want to get out for a while, on my own here and the day is looming tooooo long! The 'stinking thinking' can come to anyone, anytime - but yes it gets much easier and avoidable and definitely mostly you can see it coming!!!
