    Hi. New to this

Hi. I'd like to talk to others about ways to stop drinking. AA never worked for me and I tried it on and off for thirty years. I take campral and it has diminished the craving to drink but not the habit of drinking. I drink even though I really don't want to and have to be home at a certain time so that I can. It really makes no sense.

I don't know much about how forums work. Like, if someone answers this, will I get an e-mail note to look and see? Anybody can help, thx.:new:

        Hi rosyreal!

Welcome to MWO, glad you found us
This is a good place with lots of information & ongoing support!

I know exactly what you mean about the 'habit of drinking'. I found the best help in the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html. Lots of great ideas in there to help you make your plan. Changing your thinking & routine are all part of the process along with staying very busy with healthy activities during your usual drinking times. It was odd at first but found I got used to my new routine fairly quickly.

If you haven't already read the MWO book You can download it from the Heath store here.

You've started this thread so you should look here for responses from others. Depending on how you set up your account you may receive email notifications if someone sends you a Private Message.

Please feel free to visit the Newbies Nest thread for more support!
Wishing you the best on your journey.

          okay

Thank you lav...I will look for what you said. I can't buy anything right now because I am very very broke. Tool box. I will look for that. I need to fix this cause it's killing me financially and socially. I will try to figure out how to set up my account and look for support from others. I'm relieved you understood what I was saying. Thanks. Rosemary

hi rosyreal and welcome. this is a great place for information and support. i was on campral for about 10 months and although i initially had 3 months sober i dont really feel the campral helped much... and it gave me horrible tummy problems. if you read about the boards im sure you will find the help you need
Today is the tomorrow i worried about yesterday and it turned out fine

                Hi Rosyreal,
This site is wonderful. Lav gives great advice, in fact almost everyone here does or tries to. I did not read the book yet, but just spending time here reading the threads and postings as your already doing, was a huge help for myself. So welcome. You will get lots and lots of support here.

                      Hi. New to this

Hi Rosyreal, and welcome. It is a great step to begin to read and write, a lot, about your relationship with alcohol. What are your goals? From what you have written, it sounds like you are trying to give up alcohol as opposed to moderate, is this correct?

There are many aspects of giving up booze, that I never expected. The physiological withdrawal, I expected. Breaking the old habits, and routines, and pattern of living around booze, that I didn't focus much on - and it is a difficult component. I keep cold club soda in the fridge, (no sugar in club soda), and I crack one when I would have gone for a beer. It helps. The new pattern of living takes time. It took me about six months until I was feeling like I had new habits.

You can do it, and we are here to help
