As others have said...get a plan and stick to it AND remember the horrible feeling of a hangover the next day. Pride yourself on knowing you will probably be the only one feeling good out of the group if they are all heavy drinkers. You will get much more out of this trip if you stick to your AF guns. You go girl and know that we are all routing for ya!
Glad I read this post b/c it's exactly how I feel. Brilliant idea and since vacations are always my demise I have a new tool to try out. Thanks and have a great AF trip!!

I just learned a great strategy that I'm going to use when I visit my brother & wife in LV again! I love thme both to death but they are pretty heavy drinkers. Start in the morning with Bloody Marys or some variation, then on to beer around 11, then vodka drinks in the evening. Last time I was there, tried to pace myself, moderate--that went out the window by 3 p.m. Then I'd spend a good portion of my visit either drunk or hungover. Now I can just tell them I have an infection--surefire way to nip any "why not" questions. :H and that I'm taking meds that prohibit me from drinking. I can enjoy Vegas this time!

You can do it Scottish. Just take it a day at a time and practice NODE-Not One Drink Ever.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Hi ? it is Tuesday morning and I am getting ready to head to Vegas ? I am worried about this trip, I am sure most people are aware of what Vegas is and also the behavior that occurs at conferences (and I think medical conferences are one of the worst!). On the advice of people on this site, I realized I needed to have some plans in order to achieve my goals. One of my plans is to write this message with the hope of posting it on Thursday. I will save in my draft file and can view it on my phone when I feel the call of AL. I will remind myself of the message I will need to post if I don?t meet my goals. I will also read posts in the morning before heading out, in the evening before I head out and in the evening when I get back. I don?t want to let myself down, and I also don?t want to let everyone here down who have supported us all so much! so hopefully I can cut and paste this in Thursday evening instead of a oops, I slipped and day 1 here I come again!!!
Yahoo ? I did it ? thanks to all the message is received, I know I would not have been so successful without MWO behind me. Interestingly the hardest time was the hour driving home from the airport ? all o could focus on was getting a bottle of wine to celebrate my success ? NUTS!!! I am sitting here with a AF beer?and wishing for a good glass of red wine, but I have resisted!

                          Hi Lass,

Actually feeling much better today. I think I figured out part of what is draining me. I've been getting acupuncture for stress and sugar cravings. I asked my Dr. today if the acupuncture could have anything to do with my lack of energy. She said absolutely, so she is going to adjust for that next week. In the meantime, I have purchased a boat load of supplements as per the many suggestions here at MWO.
God, pleeezzzzzzzzzz wish me strength on my Sunday kayak river party. This will be the first time I will be around AL since I started this. Sunday will be my day 22 AF, and I have to tell you I am worried.

Hey Barbara, you are doing great! You can do this and your outing will be so much more fun not drinking. I have found that I am learning to appreciate and recognizing little things everyday that I never did before. Just being present mentally and enjoying good weather is amazing. Just the past week I have thought where were these nice days the past 10 years! Of course we had them but I was too drunk to ever notice. When you are on the water just recognize the beauty of nature. To me it is overwhelming to live sober now. Have a great time!
