Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

    Merlot,

Sorry--it looks likes everyone's MIA. We're not ignoring you.

I was a bottle-a-night girl, and had no problems with withdrawal. I don't know what problems two a night might cause. Someone will let you know.

Regarding the anxiety: Breathe deeply and slowly, right now...................... Now: Forget the tingling in your nose--it's not a problem regarded to AL. It could be pollen. The anxiety could very well be AL related; lots of people have that reaction after a night of drinking. I've seen the very same thing posted here many times, anxiety accompanied by depression. The AL robs us of serotonin, a chemical that makes us feel good. Anxiety is also a physical reaction to an emotional state. Are you flipped out from your drinking, and don't know what to do about it? Your brain is scared (emotion), and the anxiety is kicking in (physical).

Regardless of which is the cause of the anxiety, and if you're concerned about your AL consumption, please see and dr for both. He/She can help allay you fears about anxiety, and help you with meds for AL and anxiety. Both are monsters who can possess us. I know from experience.

Also, we are here. Others will post Stay with us. Make a plan. Half a bottle only tonight, to ease off, and prevent any serious withdrawal symptoms? How's that for a start?

Also, you might want to start a thread asking about w/d after 2 bottles a night. Others have done that, too.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

      Hello merlot!

Sorry I also missed your post yesterday. I was drinking up to a bottle and a half a night sometimes a little more or less... The first time I quit this summer the first 2 nights sleep was tough, some sweating and rapid heartbeat, but overall really not THAT bad. Those days were certainly no worse then the drymouth hangovers I experienced day after day... Combined with the nightmares and mysterious bruises.

I don't think the nose tingle is a big deal and mos people have a little fat on the liver. I would trust your dr if they said it was pretty normal. Maybe you expected different results because all you have been drinking.

If the anxiety is out of control I recommend Ativan- which I got from my dr. A half a tab when that overwhelming feeling hits really helps and I do not find it habit forming.

After I quit ( which like an idiot I started again ) my anxiety went way down just by being sober.

I hope this helps. I am here if you need me.

Enough! ---- yesterday was totally AF---- Day 2!

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

        Hi Merlot

I hope you can take some comfort from what I am going to tell you. I have been drinking wine heavily now for as long as I can remember. I couldn't stop, apart from an af peroid of 24 days back in 2009. In the last few months it has got heavier. Remember that I have been drinking heavily for around 30 years now and I am 59 years old.

Recently I went for a check up with the doctor. I was a heavy smoker as well as drinking...in a real mess. I was told that my blood pressure was a little too high and my blood was checked. Cholosterol levels a little higher than normal but surprisingly my liver is in good shape. I stopped smoking six months ago ( using substitutes and felt much better after a few days but the booze was still a problem. I decided to have my last drink on Sunday night and the last two days have been great with no cravings at all. So much so that I can't really believe it. Point of all of this is that you are not necessarily damaged internally, but even if there is some damage, it is better to try to stop now than to continue and make it even worse.

I don't know if I will get through being af, but I am going to give it my very best shot. I do not currently crave for alcohol and I am reading Alan Carrs book Easyway. I'm just about to order kick the drink as well to read at the weekend.

Good luck ! Stick around and let's see if we can help each other.

        Tim

          Hello gang!

Well 7:37 and once again still sober. It worked yesterday when I checked in about now so I'll keep with the program.

          Hope everyone is doing well.

            Hi Merlot

2 bottles a day minimum ! I got pins and needles in my feet and sensations in my upper arms. This morning I am into my third day and feeling great ! Only thing is I am not sleeping to well. Is this withdrawal symptoms anyone ?

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

I am facing a roadblock ? nothing is wrong in my life ? the weather is fantastic, I carefully manage my workload, kid + dog + cats+ flowers are well looked after- and I am getting plenty of time on the mountain.

So why do I keep drinking??? Honestly??? It must be this horrible disease ? I am not drinking anywhere close to how much I was putting way in the past, but still ? I keep ingesting strange forms of alcohol ( jagermeister, digestives, grappa etc) ? Ok ? so no more wine ? The 3AM horrors find me after anything more than 2 drinks and I lose memory much quicker than before ? I need to find my stop button again but I am clueless ?

I know deep down that I must assume this new identity of a non drinker .. I just don?t know how ? I am finding a new low, just when everything else in my life is getting neatly back in line. No more rambling ? I blame it all on alcoholism, I just need to arm myself for the next level.

Enough, I am right behind you ? Day 1 all over again ?

Juja ? good job working on those placating measures (good books + saying no to dinner)

              Timpin ? I like your attitude ?

Merlot ? back in January I went to the doctor as well only to get the all clear on everything liver related ? but I just know I am not fully OK. Take Tim?s advice and quit before things get worse, this is what I am trying to do too. The damage I got is much more subtle and does not fall into any ?clinical diagnostics? : small troubles with digestions, quickly falling blood sugar levels, estrogen dominance, bouts of energy lows ? oh, the anxiety and depression also cleared after I dried out a bit. Stay with us ?

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

Merlot, I have been on 1 bottle (give or take) most nights for over 3-4 years. I am female, 35 years old and weigh 70kg (arrghhh).

During the first 2 weeks of cold turkey ( and no suplements) I've experienced:
                #1 extreme fatigue and depression
#2 anxiety, nervousness, feeling kind of scared
#3 nausea, lack of apetite - only occasionally

I have learnt that #1 is due greatly to havoc in the blood sugar levels and could be managed much better with proper nutrition (eating often during the day - lots of complex carbs and no simple sugars).

Afterwards I took supplements that helped with #2 and #3 but for me the biggest change for the better came when I really paid attention to my diet.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

                  Morning all!

After a lousy night sleep ( same as day 2 last time I quit ). I am proud to say today is day 3. I am off from work today which presents some temptation challenges. Overall I feel good and ready to get back to managing my alcohol much better.

Shue... Hey girl! We did it before. It's time to refocus our efforts and make this happen. Maybe everytime we fail we learn a little something? Like you I was purposely no buying wine, but found myself rummaging at the back of the liquor cabinet amd drinking just about anything. So I understand.

Merlot... I can not say how you are going to react from no alcohol. You will most likely have some shakes, sweats, and not sleep so great for a few days as your body gets used to being clean. Drink lots of water, deep breathing, and post as needed for support.

                  Everyone else check in today.

                  Talk soon.
                  Enough!

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

Hey all! I've been following this thread since the summer when it started.... I had all of your concerns and all of the stumbles...or more.

I'm currently AF for day 7 for the third time since July. I'm going to try to keep it up this time!

I'm no doctor but I'm 29 and have drank 12-15 beer per day and add 10 to that on weekends for about 10 years. When I stopped alcohol I went into huge night sweats and I was so irritable I could honestly kill! But that was the extent.... I only made 3 days the first time!

Then I discovered the secret... Vitamins and supplements! Honestly I was very very skeptical but I thought I can't do this anyway so what the hell! I researched on my own A LOT and found the vitamins and minerals that are depleted by chronic ALism and added them to my diet along with milk thistle For the liver, melitonin for the sleep, and L glutimine for the cravings along with isolite protine. I look like a drug addict taking all these pills 3-4 times a day but it really helps me and it is way cheaper than drinking....lol!

Honestly the combination of support from this group, suppliments, and exercising Every Day has made my journey to be AF a bit easier... Thank you all for your support!
I have a long way to go!

Merlot... Move on. You slipped up... Don't let it ruin the rest of your day. Instead of saying "screw it", finish the day strong and hopefully with no more alcohol. There were times that I had to have " a glass or two" before work early afternoon just to get going. That was when I knew things were getting out of control, but it still took me a while to accept I had an issue.

Boh... Welcome! Hope you will join us here at conquering and best of luck.

                        Hi Merlot

I agree with Enough. We're all here to help each other ! Don't let it get you down, move on and get through the rest of the day. Welcome to Boh. I have a plan for tomorrow. I am going out to buy a few soft drinks that I have never tried before, chill them and then sip away instead of my horrible tasting cheap wine !!

I found that soda water really helps me!

                          Merlot...

Keep on trying! Think positive and don't get hung up on the depressed feelings. I found my depressed feelings fade as my AF days go up... We all slip but the important thing is to keep you end goal in mind.

Merlot... I am having a glass of wine right now as I type. A bottle and a half you need to switch to water now so you don't feel terrible tomorrow. Split the rest out and pour a glass of water or make a tea.

You will feel like you accomplished something if you stop now.
