Hi change....yes. Was normal for me anyway...was exhausted for the first 2 weeks or so. Then it starts to get better gradually. Probably your body healing itself...just sleep when you can and it will start to fade

Hiya all,
I'm also on Day 2 and similarily feel totally knackered and sweating profusely... Is that the alcohol coming out of the system?? or because its hot here??
Its 5pm - that wicked hour but I'm not going to get a bottle of wine...
it will get easier (she says through gritted teeth!!!)
Hang on in there everyone!!
Take Care

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Hi Change, I had been drinking for that long and that much, I couldn't even sleep, couldn't figure out where to put my arms! I felt soooo low and drained, worse than a hang-over and I was like, why don't I just drink, but I didn't and it got better and now I feel 110% better about everything!! Except the odd rant day like this morning.
Patrice, it is hard... My trigger hour is also 5pm but I am finding it not so hard to resist, althught still not a walk in the park, I also sweated buckets which I thought was pretty gross but was chuffed all the poison, toxic stuff was leaving!!
Stick with it. I found it got better very quickly considering how long I had been abusing!

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Hi all, I'm back since my last visit in March. Have been on and off AL so many times it is unreal. I'm back to day 1 again! Determined to keep fighting this and despite feeling so rotten my body is telling me to drink! It's horrendous, the sort of thing you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy! If I'd have known that I would spend 12 years wasting my life and hurting all the people who care about me I would never have picked up that first drink. The longest I have managed to remain abstinent is 2 years and it was the best thing I did. I have no idea why I decided to start again. Since then I have detoxed so many times I have lost count but each withdrawal has got slighty worse. I'm lucky that I have a supportive family who understand my problems. I hope everyone on the forum manages to keep theirselves healthy and stay away from the AL. Keep strong! :-)

BTW... Finished Kicking the Drink... A good read and very different perspective. It all sounds so easy... I don't drink... No worries... What is there to miss...???
After you read it you do actually say to yourself ... " why DO I drink" ... I don't really know what I like about it! Do you? it's definitely not the passing out... Dry mouth... Headache... KIds thinking you are an idiot... Lack of total motivation. I can go on and on.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Everyone: I too was a wino 2.5 years ago. I couldn't stop after mutiple attempts. Admitting I was an alcoholic was a start. I had rationalized my drinking for many years, but I finally realized that drinking whole big bottles of wine on a daily basis was not normal. I've now been sober since March 09 & love the sober lifestyle. What did I do?
-come here to MWO daily.
-go to AA meetings at least 3 - 4 times @ week.
-admit my alcohlism on a a daily basis.
I don't take my sobriety for granted. It's a daily effort but very worth it. Good luck to all who want to stop the craziness.

I had a totally AF day yesterday! The first in a while. Just that statement alone says volumes about my dependancy.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Wow. What a cool thread. I've just signed up today in desperation on Day 5. I visited here about 2 years ago, but managed to keep drinking whilst taking the supplemtns. Not overly successful.
This time I'm just completely fed up with myself and sick of feeling like crap physically. Like many of you on this thread I'm a professional working mum with school aged kids. My choice of poison is white wine, preferably pinot gris. I've been vacuuming up a bottle a night for months, and recently found myself having a glass from a second bottle. I used to be a half a bottle of wine per night girl.
It's been the reaching for that second bottle that caused me to finally admit that I have a problem. I'm definitely on the slippery slope here. Also, I'm fed up with losing every morning till lunchtime to a hangover.
Anyway - day 5 and I'm hanging in there - just. Been grumpy as hell and eating anything that isn't tied down. Also had two days of nonstop headaches that have finally gone away.
Luckily my other half is being very supportive. No more wine in the house and drinking lime and soda each night. I know I should be exercising, but I just feel exhausted.
Are hunger, grumpiness and headaches normal? When do you start feeling better?!
Thanks for your support

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Hey kiwik...
Yep.. Headaches, tired, can't sleep... All typical stuff. I quit for almost a month over the summer and little by little started back up until I was pretty much back to my old habits. over a bottle a day is a problem. As I mentioned in an earlier post... If you can't remember when the last day was you went without alcohol you have a dependancy on the drug. Period.
Tonight for example... My husband asked me this morning if I would like a bottle of wine for tonight when I got home from work...I told him no... Had a conversation with myself in the car about not wanting to drink...I don't drink... Arrived home not to long ago and that familiar.... Well maybe iust one glass... I opened the wine cabinet and for once he listened to me and nothing there! Checked the fridge where there is beer ( not so tempting )... So having a tasty pot of tea! But if there was wine watchout!
I understand totally everything you are experiencing ( same as many others here ). You are certainly welcome to join us here for support.
All the best...

Also... Yes eat! Don't get hungry. Your body is missing all that extra sugar. Not the time to worry about a extra cupcake or two!

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Hi Kwick,
Yes like Enough said , Headaches for sure - I have just had 3 AF days and had low grade headaches every morning, couldn't sleep and was really grumpy (my poor 6 year old)
I slipped up last night because I found a small amount of vodka ( not my usual drink) in the house and drank it. I can't have Booze on the property!!!
Also food I think is very important.. during those 3 days I ate really well and my vigour was returning, but yesterday I didn't eat much = I drank. I can't underestimate the importance of eating well when stopping... I am much more likely to drink when hungry then I can't eat...
Anyway, I'm with you on Day 1 again ..
Take care
Patrice

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Thank everyone.
So...any predictions - how long before I start feeling better / more balanced / more energetic...I'm on day 5.
Also - do cravings ever stop? - my worst time each day seems to be from 4 till 7 each evening, which is kind of weird because I didn't used to drink until I got home from work at 6.
Thanks
