Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Good evening ladies,
mumofsix I do not believe we have met, looking forward to getting to know you. I gather from your name you have a great deal on your plate.
Hello Mya ad great job on getting to day 11.
My children are away at their grandparents for a few days, and I really miss them. My husband and I have tried to take advantage of being able to go out without having to pay a babysitter, but after a movie or diner my husband keeps asking me if I want to stop somewhere for a drink, despite the fact that I have told him that I am giving up drinking. Whatever!
Hope everyone had a good day and I will check in tomorrow! While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?
Well, almost through Day 3. I can't honestly remember the last time I have gone 3 days AF. I have fooled myself that I don't have a problem because I only drink after work (well, except on the weekends when I may have a beer at 11 am), I don't get drunk, not falling down drunk, I don't have hangovers, I haven't hurt anyone with my drinking so when I fill out those questionnaires - are you an alcoholic - I always figure no, not me.
But when I get home from work, I can drink 3 glasses of wine in about 30 minutes. Then more wine with dinner. Then a scotch before bed. Sometimes 2. And one the weekends, I often start drinking wine at lunch and keep going. Lately, the odd time, I have been sneaking a scotch when my DH is outside mowing the grass so he won't see how much I am drinking. Which is rich, really, because he drinks a lot, why am I hiding it from him?
So 3 days is amazing. DH is away and he gets home tomorrow and then the going is going to get tough. I will get home from work and he will want to tell me all about his trip and our usual routine when I get home from work is a bottle of wine on the front porch and we share our day - how on earth am I going to not drink????It's never too late to be who you might have been. Still here, not on the antabuse right now but not drinking either-besides it's really too short a time to drink anyway...I may take one close to the weekend as that's when it gets hard for me. I found out a friend died last night from alcohol/drug abuse. She was 26-younger than me. it really hit me and then first thing I wanted to do was drink...dumb huh?
Anyway I can't do that and I made it through the night although I was up late thinking a lot about death and wondering why she died and I am still here. I think the fact that I got through that night without drinking has shown me that I CAN handle bad things happening without falling to pieces and getting smashed beyond belief.
Today was okay, went to the gym after work and bought a good book to read as I do that a lot now that I can follow the story and see the words! Have a great night ladies and good job Mum!

Enough--Hooray on day 17!
Mum and Mya--Congrats on staying the straight and narrow!
Not Tonight--I mean no disrespect, but what the hell is wrong with your husband? :bang
I want to personally grab him by the collar and bang him over the head! You told him you were laying off the booze and he's still suggesting you drink? You being sober is the most important thing in your life. More important that your job and more important than your family, because without your sobriety you can lose your job and family! He should be the shoulder you can lean on now. Grrrrr. (sorry for my rant)
Vini--You are doing great! And there's no reason why you can't hang out with your husband and talk about your week. Pour yourself something non-alcoholic in a wine glass and talk on the porch just like you always do. Nothing has changed except that you won't be drinking poison this time.
Akazia--I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. So very young. And yes, you can handle bad things without drinking. You can handle celebrations without drinking. You can do it!

Good night all!
Mya.. Congrats on 11 and Vini great job beating 3. Today had it's scary moments for me as my bosses boss ( head of company ) stopped by and wanted to go for drinks after our meeting. We have known each other forever and he certainly looked at me like I grew a second head when I said I wasn't drinking. Sat at the bar... Ordered my cranberry clubsoda thing and watched him order a glass of juicy red wine. I have to admit I almost caved in. Sooo close to saying ... What the heck I'll have one too...
If it was one of my favorites I might have caved ( but a sterling red cab :hqualifies for the "free wine sucks slogan" I passed! Yeh!!!! Got home still wanted wine and almost caved again and got a beer. Popped a L-glutamine and stuck my fingers in to the chocolate layer cake and ate some off the cake plate. My kids even corrected my manners. MOM!
Anyway survived day 17 alcohol free! Barely.
Great job to all of you.. It is certainly a journey. I read some posts from some folks that seem to really hit rock bottom after years of trying to beat this and I don't want to be in that place ever.
Enough!
Will catch up more tomorrowInsanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. Albert Einstein

Oh... By the way.. After thinking about what I really wanted at the bar the glass of red was real nice BUT a big huge bottle with a funnel would be even better. IF I gave in and had that one glass I can honestly admit ( this is tough ) that I would of absolutely stopped and got a bottle on the way home and that's it! Game over! All this for nada!
Just sharing...

Well Day two done and dusted - well almost anyway - 5.30pm and kids all fed etc. I'm pretty lucky as I dont live IN town but out in the country so it isnt just a matter for me of popping down the shops for wine. I have to get in the car and drive. It makes things alot easier.

Good morning all,
Enough - you really hung in there, great job on getting through day 17. Some days the temptation is so strong that it is not about getting through the day, it is almost minute by minute. I too find chocolate a great alleviator.
Vinnie - congrats on day 3 ,onwards and upwards!
akazia I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. We are all here for you.
Hi Flyaway - no need to apologise for the "rant". He is not really someone I turn to anyway.
Mumofsix and noxy great job on staying strong.
My children are coming home today! Can't wait. Then we are off to a 3 day music festival in Dorset. Blondie is headline, so looking forward to seeing her. I plan on focusing on the music and the children.
Anyway I have to take the dog out and then get to the office. Will check in later. Much love - J.While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.

Gosh! Viva technology ! Doing this from my b berry whilst waiting for children to finish with study club ! I am so pleased to have worked this out ! Just read about progesterone and the alcohol addiction ... Seems not only middle aged women but also teens have been linked to this cause ! Don't know what to think about it but will investigate further ! My boys are here now but now that I have found the Way In here , I will be in touch more often xxx
