Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

Well done Lilla on another successful day! I like the ideo of Orange Juice, and creating cleaning! I am a kitchen clean freak! Though my kitchen is full of baby stuff at the moment.. eh so is my living room/dinning room! Lol.

Thanks for the first step. I feel weird today- like I am shaky or nervous- Jittery! Making Lunch for my friend- something I have not made before. Chopping vegetables and I can see shakes. Made me think "oh my God! I am so much more addicted and my body has become reliant on it, so much more than I thought " I hope I keep getting little reminders like that.

Hope you have a good night and well done again x

Nollie ? First let me say a huge congratulations on 15 days! That is awesome. Secondly, good job on overcoming those cravings! In the beginning we do whatever it takes to make it through one day at a time, and then eventually it WILL get easier. Keep up the good work, you are doing great!

MinStar ? I?m glad you made it through to day 2?each day will become less of a battle, so hang in there! I envy you that you are doing this while your precious baby girl is so young. My ?bottom? came a few months ago when I came home (after driving drunk to the store to get more beer) and my daughter (13 at the time) was sitting on the couch with tears streaming down her face. She said she wanted to give me a letter because she couldn?t say what she wanted to out loud. Her letter went into detailed descriptions of how her heart breaks every time I drink. She has recurring nightmares that I am going to have liver disease and lung cancer. She told me she hated seeing me drunk because I do stupid things (like ?groom? the dogs, that?s a whole ?nother story!). Anyway, you cannot imagine how my heart broke into a million pieces, knowing I was the cause of her sadness. I?m getting all teary just typing this. That?s when I put down the drink and really focused on doing this for good (although I have shamefully had one slip since). I guess the point of my long-winded story is that your baby can be none the wiser about any of this if you quit now, but as they grow older, it does affect them in horrible ways. Don?t go through what I went through! My daughter is the center of my world and to know I caused her so much pain is a horrible cause of guilt, which I?m working through by proving to her every day that I am getting better.

Lilla ? I wanted to say Hi to you too! Good job with the cravings, fresh juice can really be a lifesaver! I tend to drink a lot of sparkling mineral water, some of it comes with juice flavoring, to me it tastes good (a little bit salty) and I like the bubbles.

I hope everyone has a good day, and remember to never quit quitting. You CAN do this!
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Believe in yourself. You are stronger than you think.

        WOW! Great job everyone!
It's day 8 for me and finally no more shakes, I didn't think they would ever quit.
I can relate to all of what you guys are saying about your children, I too wish I stopped along time ago. My oldest is almost 20 and youngest is 14.
What is it about the Jason Vale book, I have been reading it and this is so unlike the other times I have stopped drinking, A few years ago I stopped for almost 7 months but everyday I have to control myslef from not drinking, but this time I haven't even really thought about it. Hmmm?

Thanks K9Lover- I have countless times with a glass in hand thought 'i wont be able to do this for long" knowing she will be effected. The sad thing is right now she is asleep and all i want is a glass of wine. I came straight on here as soon as I felt like that. I think it is also tied to dinner not being ready and normally I have a glass whilst it is cooking. I think you have done great K9- A slip is nothing- it would be worse if you slipped and never got back up again. I bet your daughter is so so proud of you!

Hi Mya- Congrats on D8! I have also been reading tons Jason Vale. I have to get this book!

I wish this stupid demon would go. Off to search for food I ate early yesterday and that helpedmy cravings tons!

K9 your posts make me sad and inspirational as i feel the same with my kids and they are all in their 20's now but we do what we do to survive i suppose and as long as we see the light at the end of the tunnel which we have done it is all good. no point dwelling on the past, just have to go forward. Day 10 here and life is good. still feeling tired, no shakes but still headachy which i think means i need some supps. any ideas on what i shld get?

Hi, great to see everyone hanging on in there. To see a post where another day is notched up for one of you makes me feel so happy and makes me think I too will be able get to the same day count as you have achieved...if that makes sense.
Hello to MagMom, am only on day 5 but this site has been brilliant, hope it is for you too.
K9lover, your story made me so sad, I remember as a teen when my mum used to drink (at home, a lot, alone) it destroyed me inside and I hated seeing it and wanted it to go away and be different, but I never ever said a word. My teenagers have never said anything, but I think maybe (one of them at least) was hurting inside over it.
I am out tonight (big first test) but feel strong, sending you all the same vibes...

I am onto day 2. Feeling pretty good right now, but had a pretty rough night with night sweats and waking up all the time. I know it will get better.

Going around to read some more.

Thanks for all your warm welcomes!

Hang in there y'all with the night sweats. I had them on and off (mostly on) during the first 2 weeks. Now at day 18 AF, haven't had one lately.

Conquoring day 1!!! Who's beating this with me?

Hi - Here are some pieces of information that might help from 7 weeks to Sobriety:

                              Alcohol-Induced Tremors, Shakiness

In a study of abstinent alcoholics, all of the participants continued to suffer from tremors ten weeks after treatment. This common problem can be reversed by combining the amino acid taurine with magnesium, calcium, B-complex vitamins, and omega-6 essential fatty acid (Table 19, Seven Weeks to Sobriety). Of these nutrients, the one that is new to you is taurine which, according to a 1977 study, effectively blocked the shakes of alcohol withdrawal.

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) can also reduce tremors that occur during alcohol withdrawal. This fatty acid is also essential to the prevention and treatment of alcohol-induced central-nervous-system impairment. Calcium and B-complex vitamins also help control this problem. All the B vitamins are essential to nervous-system stability, while calcium and magnesium calm and relax nerve tissue. The depletion of both these minerals by alcohol is responsible for the acute tremors that occur during withdrawal. It has been shown that magnesium can reverse delirium tremens. At Health Recovery Center we administer intravenous magnesium to control patients' muscle tremors and help prevent convulsive seizures.

From the section on Hypoglycemia and Al: excerpted

If you are hypoglycemic and alcoholic, your over sensitized pancreas tries to control your excessive intake of both alcohol sugars and refined sugars. You overproduce insulin, which then removes too much sugar from your bloodstream. As a result, your blood sugar falls too far below normal levels. When it does, you may develop headaches and become irritable, anxious, fearful, tired, dizzy, confused, uncoordinated, forgetful, and unable to concentrate. You may feel and act antisocial.

Eventually, the physical stress produced by low blood sugar prompts an outpouring of the adrenal hormone epinephrine, which signals the liver to release emergency sugar (glycogen) to prevent further insulin shock. This can bring on other unpleasant reactions. You may feel shaky, weak, and sweaty, and you may be aware of a rapid heartbeat. You may have noticed that caffeine can produce these symptoms. It also stimulates the adrenal glands to trigger the release of stored glycogen to temporarily raise blood sugar levels.

And treatment later in the section:
Key Nutrients That Block Sugar Cravings

Your cravings for sweets could sabotage all your efforts. But you can combat them with-you guessed it-many of the nutrients you are already taking, plus two new ones. Your old friends glutamine, vitamin C, magnesium, and pantothenic acid help keep sugar cravings under control. Two others, niacin and chromium, will heighten this effect. Add two 500-mg doses of niacin, one at breakfast, one at supper; you are already getting enough chromium in your multi-vitamin formula.

Both niacin and chromium have proved extremely helpful in the treatment of alcoholism.
That popping sound you hear is me attempting to remove my head from my arse. It's been there for years so this may take a while.
Admitting I need healing. And I am not big enough to do this alone.
