I'm one of us...
I'm here because it's time for me to face up to the fact that I'm drinking too much. No one around me seems to notice (I live alone), but I notice. It's just in the past two years or so since my divorce that I've started to drink, and it's quickly escalated to a liter of wine a day. And it's been that way for over a year.
So I hope I'm in the right place, I hope I can do this. I hope someday I'll be able to enjoy a glass responsibly, or sip some ice water at the end of a long day.Tags: None

You are most definitely in the right place.
First thing to do is learn about the MWO method. The Robert Jewell book "My Way Out" can give the basic roadmap. It is a combination of nutritional supplements, hypnotic CD's, exercise, and a prescription medication. Read the posts for a while in the various areas, and when you are ready, let us know a bit more about yourself.
Some folks here do "mods" or moderation, which is regulating your drinking. Some others like myself, go "abs" or complete abstinence, and not drink at all.
I believe either way, the advice is to start by abstaining 30 days to get balanced out a bit first.
The forum here is where we share our experiences, feelings, thoughts and advice to each other. You will see that you are not alone with any drinking problem you wish to get help with. Some of the others here will be along shortly to welcome you. You will find the support you need to tackle the drinking urges,and you might even surprise yourself with the new things you will learn!

Hi diet coke, I remember all too well my first few times on here back in July; nerves, self-doubt etc. It is a great community and has really helped me. It has taken a year or more for your drinking to escalate to a litre per day so it will takesome time to reduce it. But you are making a step in the right direction.
I was drinking to oblivion every night for 7 years. I began by reading the book, taking exercise and vitamin supplements and am now drinking far far less. Good luck on this journey. :welcome:

You are definitely in the right place, I've been here a little more than a month.
I haven't stopped totally but have reduced my intake from 3 bottles of wine a day down to 1 (still too much) but I feel much better & other than a slight slip yesterday I don't dtink till at least 7pm now & it used to be all day on my days off and weekends.

Thank you all for the warm welcome - you all know what it means to be welcomed and encouraged!
I have RJ's book, and have ordered the supplements, which should arrive in about a week (as well as my huge and wonderful family).
It's only been four years that I've been drinking (starting with about an ounce of wine, a bottle lasted weeks ), but it has become a Big Problem this past year. I'm almost 50, and I've worked very hard to regain my life after a difficult 25-year marriage. I went back to school to enter a profession I've always dreamed about, passed my licensing exams without any problems, and now have a highly-paid job at my first choice facility (I'm being vague, god forbid anyone at work find out my secret). And here I am risking it all...
My eventual goal is moderation; both of my parents have struggled with problem drinking at different times in their lives, but manage to be moderate drinkers now. When my sister drinks, she drinks to excess, so I guess it's in the gene pool.
I'm a fairly private person, and I really liked the privacy of the MWO approach. I can't picture my self standing up, "Hi, I'm -----" since I can't even tell my closest friends. I drink at home in private, so that's where the battleground is!

hello dietcoke - what a great name. i'm not drinking that much wine, but i'm scared i could get there. once i start, i can't stop - so it's bad. i read the post, have read the book, bought some of the supps, and felt good on them. not sure about the kudzu, but perhaps i need a better prescription. let us know how you get on. It's the first drink that does it, if you don't do that one, then it's ok. Tylyr

Tylyr, why is it I can resist that first cookie or sweet snack at work, but I'm just hopeless about the first glass of wine? Sigh.
My supplements arrived today (still waiting for the CDs and Topamax), so I'll start them tomorrow. I do hope this works!!

This is a great place. You'll meet some wonderful people here & get a lot of support. It's so nice to have a life again, after feeling like I'd come so close to giving up on everything I hold near & Dear to myself.
I've been here for almost a year, and it's the best year I've had, for as long as I can remember. I've been a pretty serious drinker for the better part of ... well on 30 years.

This is a great place to be, with many people to turn to to help you (and me) through the times ahead.
yeah, my loungeroom and study are my battlegrounds too. Maybe we should change the decor, or better still, change ourselves...........which is why we're all here.

Nice to see that there is so much support here. I wish you well. I'm struggling with the same problem. I can easily drink a bottle of hard liquor and several beers in one sitting. This is going to be difficult to overcome. I will be abstaining from drinking completely. Good luck.

Like you, I could never imagine standing up at a meeting and "sharing." I don't "share" well --but I do play nicely with others and I don't run with sissors! LOL! Welcome!Hawk
