Hey Brodieman2 good on ya. I'm now successfully at the end of AF day 5, curled up in my pjs with my doggy, and just for (what is left of!) today I won't have a drink. I'll worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

I had a serious moment earlier walking my baby along the beach, looking at all the sunny seafront bars with happy couples drinking wine in the sun, and wanted to be part of it. I just whispered to myself "I don't drink any more" it didn't help much but obviously enough to keep me walking on. It's like being on a diet I guess, the same sort of discipline is needed. Speaking of which I've lost 3kgs in a week! So there's something to be happy about - didn't realise the wine was piling it on so much.

Anyway keep strong and keep fighting. Tomorrow is AF day 6, which is nearly week. Wow a week. The longest I will have been AF since a teenager.

And the 2 best things I have found so far:
      waking up without a hangover
driving to work or the shops without the terrible fear of being pulled over for a random breath test

These are good things. Keep smiling :-)

Rollerblader - I managed not to drink on Saturday, but on Sunday the fiancee and I checked out a venue for the wedding that features handcrafted beers and I did indulge in about a beer-and-a-half since if we're investing so much money in this place, I want to make sure we're getting quality for our dollars, but I made sure to drive so that I couldn't go overboard and while I got a little tipsy, I didn't get drunk, and since I didn't get drunk, I didn't get hammered, so I consider it a victory. A minor victory, but still a victory. Still, I guess I should consider myself back at Day One. I could always put Day 9 with an asterisk, but I don't think that would fly.

Hahaha, well I think you should be mega-proud of yourself for being so restrained with the beers! It's definitely a victory to limit yourself to what most people think of as "normal" drinking. i have never been able to, once I start I can't stop.

The whole AF days thing I think is just a way for people to mark the passage of time and their personal progress. Some people count the number of days in a month they are AF and aim for more and more days each month, rather than a specific number of consecutive days. Lots of people on here aim to moderate their drinking, just have alcohol in certain situations and certain areas of life. No one is judgemental and everyone respects each others choices. You do what's right for you.

I wish you all the best :-)
