    Hi Everybody

Just want to introduce myself, since I will be hanging around here now. I have been lurking for a few weeks, have been reading voraciously...the posts, the tool box, everything. So now I'm ready to jump in.

I'll tell my story another time, but for now I am sober 5 days. I am finally coming out of a fog and sweat and irritability and feel normalish. I'm taking most of the supplements except for the kudzo and I'm on Topamax. I'm also seeing an addiction counselor once a week. I feel fragile and raw and strong. Like a fresh wound healing from the inside out.

I'm a mommy to a gorgeous little boy, and as you may have gathered from my username, I'm a nurse, lol. I will probably be posting alot in Holistic healing, Recipes, and what's that other one I like....reading....haha. I'm so glad you guys are here. This seems like a comfy place to land.

    Hi Everybody

    Hi Nursie!

Just wanted to shout out a hello & word of support. I'm new here too, also have been lurking for quite some time, also need to properly post my story soon. I'm on day 8 AF and already feeling so much better. That said, I know I've got a long way to go and need a lot of help/support to stay on track.

I look forward to helping support each other in this journey. Almost a week alcohol free for you - hooray! It does get better each day (if not always easier).

      Hi Everybody

Thanks Zen and Lilly. Zen that video made me lol thank you for sharing! Haha
Yes, maybe I should try a sauna! This sweaty business is for the birds. I think the primrose is making me hot too. Idk. Drinking tons of water as I am thirsty anyway and I'm waking up 10 times a night to pee. Not sleeping anyway.
      I feel so vulnerable!

        Hi Everybody

        Hi Nursie,

        Welcome!
There's a thread on general discussion at the moment about problems with sleep which might be useful to you.
Congratulations on the five days sober. Not surprised you feel vulnerable - those early days are tough! It does get better eventually.

            Hi Everybody

            Thanks Marshie and Gardengal.
If it were easy everyone would do it, eh?
Well I made it through the day. I did have cravings today and they pissed me off because I thought the supplements and all were helping. But I know that it's not really that easy. I do think I need to change around the times of the topomax. Maybe I need a midday dose instead of just morning and evening. Idk. I'll post in the meds section.

                Hi Everybody

Hi Nursie! I didn't take Topa but I did all the supplements, hypnosis CD's, diet and exercise suggestions from the book. I really believe all of that helped a lot, but it still didn't make cravings and urges disappear. The good news is that it was really hard at first to stay AF, but now it's not hard for me at all.

I liked to keep a written list of things to do handy at all times. The worst thing for me would be to get an urge, and then sit there stuck and stewing in it. It helped me a lot to have some "action" ideas already on paper. When an urge would hit, I could pull out my list, pick something, and get busy.

There are tons of other strategies in the Toolbox, etc.

One day at a time, we can do this.

                      Hi Welly Nd Abby.
Lucky day 13 today! AND I survived date night with the hubs last night! Woo!
All these supplements are making my nails grow super fast too. Or is it the lack of a magnum of wine daily? Hmph.

Yes Techie! And I just read your blog post about tri stuff! GET OUT!! So cool, I trained all spring and summer for my first tri, but then I didn't do it. (It was a 3 person team sprint tri) and two people droped off my team. I didn't have the confidence (or sobriety) to do it alone. I also trained to do a Warrior Dash, but didn't show up. Self sabotage. Now I'm gonna seriously kick some ass. Which bike do you recommend?

Zen, who knew? The booze messed with our pretties? People keep asking me at work what I'm doing, lol. One person said I'm all sparkly. I guess not being hung over brings out the best in me.

Poor poor Yankees. So sad. Now I can concentrate on the Giants. Anyhow, get yourself prepared and complete an event. I use a tri bike but train on a road bike as well. I wrecked a bike in a fall last year. I have a Cannondale Slice 4 Rival Triathlon and several road bikes. Some folks prefer a road bike. Not sure what you have. If you do tri's every so often a road bike is your best bet. If you're looking for a new ride test drive a few both road and tri. Make sure you get measured for the proper frame size.

I was in a car accident earlier this year and have just recently gotten back in a fairly good training mode. Spending more time in the pool than pavement but will target a few sprints in early 2012!

                              Hi Nursie

I just read your post and am curious about any side effects you may have with the topamax !!!! I could not really function very well as my brain seemed to be ten steps behind !!!! I was up to 200mg daily , took 100 in the morning and then 100 early evening . I never touched any alcohol whilst I was taking topa .... no urge to drink so I know that this does work ! I started with 25 mg and followed the my way out programme until I peaked at 200mg .... I have relapsed and hit bottom last night again !!!! Afraid to take the topa as I am starting a course soon and I need to be alert and attentive .... How do you cope with side effects ?
