Mauri, this is a great topic! In case it helps you or anyone else to keep your hope alive, here are some things that have come true for me since I quit drinking:

I feel I am a better person. I try my best to do the next right thing instead of the selfish thing.

I have lost weight. I'm up a bit right now, but still down 40 pounds from when I quit drinking.

I haven't really saved a lot of money, but I have some really awesome shoes that I get to wear again and again instead of pissing my money away! :H

My health has improved dramatically. Mild hypertension is gone - BP consistently about 110 / 65. Fasting blood sugar normal. For the first time in years, my last doctor visit every single thing she tested my blood for was NORMAL!!! (and she tests a lot of stuff)

I have regained my lust for life. I exercise, do volunteer work, contribute to my family business, and am now a college student at 53.

                      I have self respect.

And peace of mind. Lots of that.

It was actually fun to go through all of your lists and make my own list which shows me how far I have come. I will remember that when I have a tough day. My "bottom" was sitting alone in my house with my bottle everyday seeing absolutely no reason to live. I had a suicide plan and the means to carry it out. I feel many many many miles away from that dark and lonely place today.

If I can do it, and a bunch of other people here can do it, then so can each of you. DREAM BIG!!!!

Doggygirl thank you for that inspiring post (we really need a thanks button on here!) I was so sorry to read you actually had a suicide plan - I must say the thought has crossed my mind fleetingly lately but my father ended his life 17 years ago so not an option) but it is so lovely to hear you are so happy and content in your sobriety now
