booze and the human body ?

    Hi there

i am very pleased to say i am on day 30 no booze which is awesome for some one who has been a heavy drinker for so long, i just decided enough was enough

my question is how long does it tale the human body mind and soul to start to recover ? i am amazed that i dont feel a whole lot better , still after a month i have a body that aches like i have done 10 rounds with mike tyson and lots of headaches and generally low mood, i am off to the doctors to get checked but think i should be feeling a whole lot better by now?

TTIN, I am also on day 30 today - congratulations to you! BUT I know exacty how you feel! I have lots of achiness in my body and very tired by the end of the night....I have been loadng way up on supplements and recently started excess vitamin D...because my legs and hips ache. It can keep me up at night. The vitamin D seems to have helped. Before I was taking maybe 1000/ day but yesterday probably tripled that...and today - an the aches have diminished alot. I am also working on trying to increase my ph in my body...

I drank for a long time too...and expect that this is going to take quite awhile to correct...I have read that it can take several months for things to get back to normal in our bodies.

When I find some specific info I will be sure to post it here for you ok? Don't give up though...in the spring, the aches kept me awake and it all was enough to drive me back to the bottle....not this time though! I'm going to figure this out! :-)

Hey Lo - way to go on 30 days! You are really doing great :goodjob:

TTIN - for me the first 30 was great and then my mood started to go down hill. I wish I would have confided in my doctor because I think he could have helped because it led me right back to the bottle. Working on 30 myself and hope to keep going. Good luck to you!

          Hi TTIN,

Congrats on your 30 AF days :goodjob:
I hope you plan to continue to move forward!

Since we are not machines & can only heal at our own pace there really is no exact answer to you question.
Are you eating well & taking supplements, getting some exercise? I believe that in addition to kicking AL out of our lives we have to work at restoring our health. Do you have any other underlying conditions that need to be addressed with your doctor?
I'd have to say it was a good three months before I really started to feel some difference

          Keep up the great work!

Hi time. When you think about how long we spent damaging our bodies, it really is a miracle that things heal up as fast as they do. Still - it can take awhile for full recovery. I have been told in my classes that the road to full blown chronic addiction takes, on average, anywhere from 15 - 30 years. (some will be shorter, some longer) Full recovery takes anywhere from 3 - 5 years on average. I know in the early days, 3 - 5 WEEKS seems like forever. But it's really not that long in the grand scheme of things.

Enjoy the ride - things will keep getting better.

Hello, TTIN. I know exactly how you're feeling. It's been a little over 3 months since I had any booze, and my body ached badly for at least a month; it still does if I exert myself even a little too much. The first time I got back in the gym and lifted weights, I felt about 80 years old for the next 4 days! I had a check-up and blood work done, too, and my liver is just fine, as is everything else. I was also in a very low mood for at least 2 months. That, at least, has improved quite a bit in recent weeks. I think we just need to stay off the booze, take care of ourselves and be patient. And please do check into taking supplements. Congratulations, too; 30 days is a real accomplishment!!
