An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

    Hi all,

Just new to this thread - though spend quite a while reading the posts here. As has been said a thousand times over, Guitarista, your advice is spot on - and i reckon for me (for me at least) empowering. So thank you.

Have been chilling out in the newbies nest since i arrived on this site. Am at day 9 AF, and have a marathon to run in now 5 days. That's a strong incentive to stay AF until then. But as i've written about in the nest, it's after that that i'm thinking my will power may collapse...

"I've run a marathon - yup, damn good reason to have a pint. Plus 7!" ... and so may begin the return to the ol' lonely habit...

I'm living each day with Birdie's signature imprinted on my brain: "All you gotta do is get thru this day"

    Sage advice.

    Have an awesome Tuesday folks.

Hi RunningC - good to see you and well done on your 9 days.
WOW! A marathon! Tired just thinking about it. Very best of luck and I hope you can take it as a great incentive to carry on the AFness

An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

        Hi folks!

Today I am 30 days smoke free. The only downside is that I went outside for the first time in a week and noticed how brown and dry my lawn is (I would have noticed long ago if I'd still been going out there to smoke...). Oh well, better the lawn has dead spots than my lungs!!!

        Have a GREEN day everyone!

Holy Popsicle stands! Thanks for your kind words Kradle, but i'm just a brickheaded yob rehashing a few of the better idea's and strategies that i've seen to work for folks around here and out there in the world. Hope all's well with you. Actually, how about an update? You had a lot going on recently, how are things with you now? (tell me to mind me own business )

Hiya Niner! You're a bloody star you know. Congratulations on 30 days orf the fags friend. This will give you more time to refine your world famous oven baking techniques even further, if that were possible.....Now where's me cornbread?!

            Welcome Running Courage.

Good to see you. Thanks for your kind words. I'm not really one to listen to, or to give advice, but as i say above, there are some classic, time honoured and proven fundamental things we can do daily in early sobriety that build strong foundations. I'm a runner too, but 10 k's are more my speed, though i do have a half marathon in my sights next year. Best wishes with the run. Running is one of the best things i can do in my recovery. I have often drank after an AF stretch and an accomplishment. Reward? No!

p.s. have you read our https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html

            Essential reading, i'd suggest.

Hi Fallen A. Good to see you here. I note another Fallen angel on this site too, who has just accomplished 5 years, 2months. She posted on last sundays 'Super sober shout out' thread in general discussion area. You will be successful too. In fact, you ARE successful right now, for every booze free day you rack up. Great stuff on day 1, and your new job, and congratulations on deciding to take back your precious life by ditching the booze. It is a myth and a lie that we need it. No.

            Have a great day/evening y'all.

              Evening all,

Well done on 30 days K9 - excellent!

Fallen Angel, congratulations on your new job and your day 1! Hope you stick around. Yes, I'm with you - struggled to get this day one in but happy to report a green day.

This made me chuckle today - it's official - we're all a bunch of meatheads!

G-Man, it's nice to be recognized for my kitchen skills. Last night I cleaned out my fridge. I woke up a monster that was sleeping in the back...I think he'd been there for quite a while, as he had a nice comfy green nest built. Once I got him cleared out, I was able to fill it up with healthy delicious dinner making foods, so I will be sure to keep you posted on my culinary antics!

Fallen - You CAN do this. We have all been at day 1 (for me it took many, many, many tries). Eventually you will get to the point where your quit finally "sticks". I quit when drinking became harder than not drinking. If you look around the boards and see some of my stories, you'll understand what I mean. From mooning the liquor store guy to having one night stands on random boats... Now instead of covering me arse and pretending like the night before didn't happen, I can just live and breathe a sigh of relief every single morning. No more hangovers and looking like shite at work (well ok, the hangover part is true...LOL).

Hang in with us...we can get you through the rough spots :l

Hi Audrey, welcome back - this is a good place to be if it is sadly needed!!!
K9 - 30 days - you go girl, it is so wonderful to see someone not just talking, but walking the walk too - well done!
Fallen, looks like a great time for a new leaf, well done on your new job, I am sure that will be a help to you on this journey too.
Running - welcome, and marathons, can't see doing that hungover thats for sure!
Free and G, good evening friends - cravings are bad today, ate a whole bag of gummies on way home, and I don't like crappy candy - if I eat sweets, it is good chocolate, not sticky rubber - who knows. Needed to get a couple of things from store, but have chosen to make do and batten down the hatches....not sure why tonight...

I'm feeling so much better getting that day 1 in and my head feels in the right place at last to give AF a serious stab, so here we ago again... Hope you're feeling better too Fallen, Audrey & Mommy.
