An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

And a happy Monday to all from me too

At last! Walk/jog buddy back and been out early doors in the rain. Think I've missed her more than I realised. Exercise definitely helps my mood.

:soothe: Lassie, as the others say, no beat up ok. Like you said, he was so sad when you were at work. It's a very difficult one.

    Have a great week everyone

An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

Hey guys, hope you are all ok...and rockin' along.. Sorry about your dog SL....

I've been reading a lot from MWO but haven't posted much.

I did the 31 AF which I felt great about and then I decided that I could never moderate as in 2 glasses every now and then.So then I tried controlled binge drinking (yes I know, a complete contradiction in terms!!) = I allowed myself a bottle of wine on a Friday after work, with food. The first 2 weekends went well, I didn't actually even finish the bottle. No thoughts of Al at all during those 2 weeks... and I will be honest and say the wine was nice and I kept up all healthy pursuits during that time (food, supps, mindfulness etc).

But Holy F****** Moley!! along comes the 3rd weekend. I had the wine on Friday night.. this time the Whole bottle and food wasn't really involved... Mmmm this was a deviation from my plan...
Saturday steps in and I was at the shop at 4.15pm...you know what I bought along with the bread
Talk about progressive.!!. I'll say no more. I knew at that moment, the controlled binge drinking idea was totally flawed.
So I'm back on the abstinent track, not feeling bad about myself, not feeling like I'm back at ' square one ', or feeling hopeless.
I feel very grateful that I am learning faster and putting that learning into practice.... so... chronologically it might be Day 1 again but mentally I feel much further on than that..so happy and AF I go on

      Take care all
      x

        Hi Patrice,

I too have attempted the controlled binge drinking (WTF!) but didn't have a name for it so thanks for clearing that one up for me. It's amazing how quickly we spiral backwards isn't it.

Glad you're back to the abstinence quickly and not beating yourself up. Early days here too (again!) but quietly moving through this whole process (and not on beat up). Following Dr Bach's blueprint of flooding myself with the positive vibration rather than fighting against the negative.

        Have a great day

An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

Freefly and Patrice; I am the same. Again, WTF!!! I know for sure that if I were to give in, which I have done many times, there is no question that I will drink a half bottle of wine; right away, I would buy 2 bottles (just in case) and there I'd go, training myself on fast-track right back into my old habits. I might intend to only drink 1 bottle but as we all know here, that just ain't gonna happen!
My moderation attempt would be the same as yours for sure; I just never thought of it as 'controlled binge drinking' before so thanks for putting it out there today - definitely gives me food for thought....
            Have a great day!

An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

              Hi Daisy!!
The reason I think of it like that is because I already know ( and have known for ages) that I can't moderate the drink so I don't or wouldn't even try..

But for me the idea of one bottle of nice wine, once a week and EVERYTHING else being equal ie: food exercise, hydration etc etc .. seemed ok but I realise that one bottle at one time is considered binge drinking. Even so, that was ok for me and would have been ok for me if it could have been kept it like that..but after stuffing up on only the 3rd weekend...it's a bad omen, my friend so no go

              anyway all good
You have a great day too!

Hey Daisy Yep, same as Patrice this end. Wouldn't even bother considering a couple of drinks now. If I bought a bottle (and I'd buy a nice one as it was CONTROLLED binge drinking! and yes doing all the good food etc) then I knew I would finish it. Used to go through a whole mind process of just a couple blah, blah blah, save some for next day, yeah right. Least the mindset is shifting and yes, a bottle to myself in a couple of hours is a bit of a binge - lightbulb moment! And no, not a good idea

FF... it was a light bulb moment for me too.. a planned bottle of good wine with food and after chores.. is a binge... and I think a binge means that drinking is still a problem, a big problem..
And yes too, the mindset is shifting

HI patrice, just read your controlled binge....... Love the description.

I've always been one too many a hundred not enough type so I couldn't even think of it. The first time I slipped last year it was a half of voddie straight away. Yuk!

                        Hi Everyone!

Just checking in to see how ya'll are doing? I'm tired, but sober. 288 days and 44 days smoke free! I had a busy weekend of cleaning the house from top to bottom and it's taking me a while to recover. I turn 40 in 10 days, so I guess old age is setting in. LOL

I hope everyone has a GREEN day...how are those calendars and stickers coming along?

Hi G-Man...no kitchen escapades lately. My cooking attempts have all been a success recently, I guess I have turned a corner. Let me know when you want me to bring you some cornbread.

hello everyone!! as always, i love this thread.
Patrice, thanks for the new oxymoron!! controlled bingeing. i've tried the same thing in the same way and have had the same end result. amazing, isn't it? both that we dream up the great "solution" and that it doesn't work out. i'm also glad you didn't let it go further.

SL, i could really empathize with you as i read about the situation with your dog. i hope you're feeling a little better about it today. i think it's admirable that you gave him up for the chance at the life he needs, even though it's so painful for you. lucky little fellow, really. i also think your girls will understand.-- most kids are also quite selfless when it comes to the good will of animals, aren't they?

Mr. G, i wanted to ask if it's possible to hear your music somewhere? i think i saw it mentioned--?

wishing you all a wonderful day,

Thanks LC - feel really guilty and very sad - it is a little better, but creeps up when I am not aware - I read last night (joy of AF bedtime), switched light off and said goodnight to him, but did not get the thump of his tail:upset: RC, Daisy and FF thanks for the notes.
Green day I hope today, controlled bingeing is opposite of quiet achievement!

I trust your furry mate will find a good home SL.

Hi Niner! Do you have any other specialties along with cornbread?

                                Hi everyone

SL, you've heard it from everyone else already, but I think what you did for your dog was wonderful - so many people put themselves before their pets and you did the opposite. Is there any chance you might try another adoption, with a dog with a different temperament, or maybe a cat? (I know they say you're either a dog person or a cat person, but I love both.)

Daisy, your post was a ways back, but I just wanted to say thank you for sharing about your night out. I haven't ventured out much yet (I'm a home body anyways), but when I do I will have your experience in my mind.

Patrice, controlled binge drinking, yup, been there done that. Mine was a bottle of rum and the question of the weekend was 'which size do I get?' Early on in the cycle it would be the little bottles, but then they would get bigger. Then take it too far, cut back, rinse, repeat.

FreeFly, G, K9, lifechange, kuya, RC, and anyone I missed - a big wave to you.
