An older drunk back on day one. Who's with me?

Thanks Pixie - I am a dog person, but I have two cats (I think they are the only ones truly happy about my choice:H). The Cats belong to my girls and are not really my cup of tea, but they do provide some company - more than the girls betta fish!!
I have considered another dog, but I could not do this again, and maybe my life with a crazy week when the girls are here and my work hours are shorter - then a boring week with no girls and longer away hours is just not the right enviroment for a dog - the cats are more independant and seem to manage it better.
Well, it is 7:30pm and I have been white knuckling it tonight, but I think that I have got thru it - so it will be another green dot on the calendar - hope everyone else is achieving their goals tonight!

      Hello G and friends!

Patrice, your 'controlled binge' spoke to me as that's pretty much what I did recently too. I know there's no 'one or two' for me (or, well, sometimes there is when all stars and circumstances align but it's the exception and it invariably leads within a week to a binge anyway). But I basically had the same thoughts… would it be so bad if I had a binge 'just every now and then'?

Now, surely this is really twisted alcoholic justification. I know I can't control my drinking, but maybe I can control the uncontrolled drinking every once in a while? We almost have to laugh at ourselves here, right?

Because the thing is, when you have that binge it brings back not only the bad side effects (for me these include heightened anxiety, depression, feeling like crap, lethargy, upset stomach) but, worse, the mental obsession, kicks in again. The 'when will I drink next and how much' thoughts take over. And when you've broken your AF period with that one binge then it's 10x as hard to resist the offer of a glass from someone the next night or night after.

AF is much easier. Only it's not always easy at all.

After my 80 days then slip then 'controlled binge' x 2 I am back with 12 days now AF again. But I still feel like I'm mentally, emotionally and even physically trying to get back to where I was.

Yes Lily, I do agree with all you have written.. And yes I now think that breaking that AF period is a bit of a mind trap..

Yes it will take a while to get back.. but it's what we all have to do
        Great for your 12 days

          Hi Everyone!

G-man, I also specialize in spinach/artichoke dip (your woman would LOVE it) and mashed potatoes...the secret ingredient being cream cheese. As you can see, I am not exactly on Weight Watchers. LOL

Hope everyone is doing well. On the subject of "controlled binge" (I like that description), I used to think "It's not so bad if I get drunk every 40 days, is it?"...but yeah, it was...because I didn't get drunk ONCE...I'd get drunk for a week or two. I had to face facts, I can't moderate. I'm allergic to alcohol, I break out in handcuffs.

On the dog topic...(my favorite...LOL) I'm thinking of adopting another one that needs a home, she's currently with a friend but they need to find a new home for her. I swore I wouldn't bring another one in until my old dog died, but I just can't turn my back on a dog in need. When I win the lottery I am opening a sanctuary for any and all animals. I guess I should buy a ticket. LOL

Have a green day everyone!!!! I have a Dr. Appt today where I'll be poked and prodded, ugh...but I guess I can't avoid it any longer. LOL

Well....here I am, again, ashamed, sick and hurting. I cannot live this way! I am wondering today why guilt doesn't kill you. It is so painful. Mr. G, Lavande, I'll be around.

Hi DB - I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were getting on. It's great to see you but I'm so sorry you're feeling like pooh! Be gentle with yourself today - lots of water and a little food if you can. Tomorrow you'll feel differently. Well done on coming back and posting and please don't beat yourself up. The hangover is enough punishment for one day. Sending you a :l and lots of :h to help you through today.

Mr. G, I am just trying to get through this day cause I know tomorrow will be a much better day. Hungover and sorry! I can't keep doing this. I have several days, sometimes weeks where my drinking is controlled. Only enough wine for a good buzz but still able to go to work the next day. But you know how that story goes. One day for no good reason, you dive head first into a total blind ass drunk! So, AF is the only way to go for me. What is it in AL that sets us off? I cannot do AL! I gotta get that through my head.
