Congrats Audrey! You have day one under your belt. I forget who, but someone once told me, once you do something once, its easier to do the second time. Do whatever it takes to "surf the urge" and start stringing together multiple days. You will notice positive changes very quickly.

Wishing you all the strength, wisdom, and support needed to reach your goals.

Here's for making it one day AF.........

Hi there please count me in. Day 2 just starting for me. I feel determined and happy! Didn't sleep too well last night so very very tired today. I don't want to have to worry about not knowing what I said or did. Life is too short. xx

Looking for: People early in their 1st 30 Days AF

On day 14 AF but only found this site last night and I could have appreciated the support that's available over the last fortnight.

Cold turkey is not that much fun for a 53 YO opinionated high performing male - its amazing how the alcohol allows you to remain on a steady keel during the day until the end of day wipeout drinks take effect. My staff and colleagues have been copping it for the last week - I seem to suffer fools less than normal.

I wouldn't have made it this far without the support of my wife who is there with me as I take this change - I've been trying to explain to her what the cravings are like. How my usual excuses of having a tough day, or having a great day each led to an excess of alcohol.

Two weeks ago after a particularly excessive binge on burbon that I had confiscated from my son's bag (on the way to schoolies) - I normally drink beer and wine - I came to the conclusion I had to do something about my drinking. My wife and I headed to a clinic that seemed to say the right things on its web site (CBT, NLP, counselling etc) only to find it was a front door to a 3-6mth rehab centre that focussed on a 12 step program - they had a 2 week intensive program in Bali that cost 30k as an alternative but otherwise weren't able to help.

Now I have businesses to run, staff to pay and so on so I couldn't really afford the time. And the think that came through was a belief that I couldn't really do anything as I was just this addicted user who could only gain self control through a self depreciating system of mutual dependance.

As I've trained in NLP and hypnosis I have a different belief in the minds power to renew itself and much of what I've read here supports my model of the world. So I'm interested in sharing the journey.

                  Hi Swaggie,

:welcome: from me and :goodjob: on your first 14 days sober. That's fantastic.

I take my hat off to you just saying it and doing it. I've had a few false starts but back on day one today and determined to get 30 days down this time. However, at the moment I'm just concentrating on day 2 tomorrow, day 3, day 4...... Gonna rack up those goals.

                  Keep up the good work
