Cannot do this on my own...

I've finally come to the conclusion that I can't do it alone. I've tried so many times. Sometimes for several months even - but I always came back and it was MUCH worse...

I ordered Kudzu, and the other supplements suggested here but I have no idea how much I should take....

I'm afraid to just stop drinking like I did last time because of everything I've read about withdrawal. I keep telling myself that I need to start limiting and reducing the amount I drink but I cannot stop after one.

I don't want to go to the doctor because once you're prescribed medicine like Naldextrone even one time, you will forever be an alcoholic as it relates to the insurance companies, etc.

I would love to actually just talk with someone who has had success....

    Hi Dano and welcome:welcome:

You are not alone. You have come to a wonderful place full of support and love. Why not hop over to the Newbie's Nest. It is a wonderful thread full of newbies just starting out as well as senior members who provide us with the wisdom and inspiration of long term sobriety. I am fairly new to this myself. I am on almost 2 weeks of no AL (previously I drank over a bottle of red wine a night). I couldn't do this without MWO. You are on the right track.

As for the medication and Kudzu supps, I have no experience there. I have been taking a good array of nutritional supps like multi vitamin, milk thistle for the liver, fish oil and a green drink of wheatgrass every day to help with my detox. I'm sure others here will respond about the medication but I prefer not to go on prescription drugs if I can help it. But everyone is different. Just coming here daily and posting and reading others' stories helps me stay sober.

There is a great thread that you should check out called the toolbox. It will help you make a plan which is key in staying sober. Plan out your Day 1, even every hour if you need to, and stick with it. It is so worth it to wake up sober. With each passing day it becomes more and more wonderful. But just take it slow and be good to yourself. Listen to your inner voice...it will tell you what the right thing is to do :h

I will find the toolbox and post in a sec. Good to meet you and wish you the best!:l

Heya D, and welcome to our super secret club, glad you found us!!!!

I dont know what quantity you drank, or how much you have to drink to have withdrawal, I can tell you I didnt have a single symptom. I considered myself a heavy drinker(avg 10 beers a night, sometimes whiskey shots as well, for 20 years)

If you are that concerned about it, maybe its not so bad letting your doctor know, because how much is your good health worth to you?

Maybe I was lucky enough to have hit a "rock bottom", to aid in my battle with AL. Everytime I get the urge to drink, I just transport myself in my mind, back to that hospital room and re live that moment. It is much easier to resist the urge at that point.

I was VERY dependent on my beer.....I would almost count the hours until I could drink, and at the very end, I was even waking up in the AM and having 3 or 4 beers then. It was going South fast.

I think what I am trying to say is, you can indeed do it, if not alone, then seek help. This board is a tool, it will help you find others in the same boat as you. Dont be afraid to "reach out", I was a bit embarrassed at first but soon realized it wasnt that big of a deal to have a label put on me.

IMO your doctor needs to know in order to help you and your body try to return to normalcy, Ive learned that being an Alcoholic depletes the body of certain vitamins.

Im not trying to tell you what to do, Im trying to tell you that you can in fact live an AF life, and you will feel/look much better in short order. Good luck and I hope you find your coping mechanism!

          Hiya Dano,

Welcome to MWO, and great to see you.

You are not alone around here, as everyone has been there too, so relax, and i hope you will stick around.
You say you've stopped drinking before. Did you need medical supervision with that? Or, were you okay on your own?

          Best wishes, G-bloke.

Hi Dano, I'm quite new too. I got to Day 7 yesterday, but then ended up drinking a bottle of wine last night. So I'm back on Day 1.

Come to the Nest, there are several of us newbies, as well as others who have been going longer. Everyone is lovely and really supportive. I don't know anything about the supplements, I'm taking B vitamins but that's it. Just trying to eat healthy and drink plenty of water, exercise.

Hang in there, you don't have to do this alone.
