    What's your anchor phrase?

We have a ton of newbies to the nest in the past week - there are a small herd of us at less than 30 days...

A bunch of us have focus phrases - something we hang onto - when the going gets tough.

Since some of the brand newbies might not have thought about what they want to anchor to - I thought it might help if we shared some of ours. That way - while they are developing their plan - if any of ours resonate - they have one...

That being said - I hate to lose. I hate to be weak. I hate to fail. So mine is perfect for me because it makes me grit my teeth and get pissed off. Mine is simple:

Today I ?WILL? be stronger than AL.
That popping sound you hear is me attempting to remove my head from my arse. It's been there for years so this may take a while.
Admitting I need healing. And I am not big enough to do this alone.

    Great anchor phrase Prairie!

I used many and carried little cards around in my purse, I DON'T DRINK. THERE IS NOT ONE SINGLE THING THAT IMPROVES WITH ALCOHOL. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "JUST ONE". I AM TAKING BACK CONTROL OF MY LIFE. ALCOHOL=MISERY.

Great thread. For me, the old standby...One Day At A Time sometimes works its miracles when I get overwhelmed thinking about challenging times coming up, such as the holidays and being AF. Or thinking about how I am going to stay AF for an entire lifetime. But breaking it down to that day, that hour, that minute if necessary has be a Godsend.

Also, every day that I add to being sober only keeps improving my mental and physical condition, so it is really true what I say in my auto signature: It just keeps getting better (and better!).

It's great to see everyone else's phrases. Great motivational thread and yes, we have lots of Newbies in the Nest which is so wonderful to see!

I should carry video of me wasted and also a video of how I feel in the morning. And stream the video through my Ipad. That "phrase" would keep me on the right track!

The one that works the best for me is to simply say to myself............I dont drink

And then quickly occupy the mind with any sort of re direct you can think of and I do mean ANYTHING, and it will become sort of a classical conditioning thing for you.

Hope that helps, it really worked for me, the idea is to get rid of the Alcohol brain you have, and turn it into an AF brain.....it just takes some time. After all your AL brain didnt just spring up overnight. So it will take a while for your AF brain to overcome the AL brain, but it is well worth it.

Great thread. My phrase I borrowed from someone else ....and that's..."Fast forward to HUNG OVER." Takes the attraction right out of that first drink.

"Will drinking make my life better or worse?"

                We all know the answer.

Great thread Prairie - very inspiring for a newbie like me I especially like Kaslo's here. It's definitely what I think about in these early stages to stop me taking that first sip. Gonna write that one down

                    Hiya

For me its a phrase much like Molly's - 2 nice glasses of wine with a nice dinner will NOT do... I want at least 10 and forget the dinner....

                    Thanks for the thread PF
