    Hi Prairie

Your list of essentials is very similar to mine.

One thing I would add for those looking for suggestions - a good way to make sure you have the building blocks for a lot of those neurotransmitters, in addition to the fish oil, is whey protein powder. You can add it to a smoothie, or some yogurt.

OK - bumping for Newbies in the Nest - again.

Also - found a new kudzu blend I quite like - It's from Planetary Herbals and is called Kudzu Recovery. Beyond Kudzu root and Kudzu flower - it also has a number of chinese botanicals also considered helpful in reducing cravings. For what it's worth - I think it's more helpful than Kudzu alone.

Lastly - I came across a different L- Glut capsule that claimed to be more readily absorbed - it was a lot more money - nearly $48 - but it was 240 capsules. I will say - the capsule coating itself seems thinner and it does seem to hit the system quite a lot harder than regular L-Glut capsules. This is helpful because when I'm runnning the roads - what's in the purse is what I have to work with - and capsules are a lot better to work with than powders when out running.

EDIT = Dip Dong that I am - when the computer wiped my first post - I lost the part with NAME. DUH.

      It's Sci-Fit Brand - Gluta-Lyn 1500 pH Buffered L-Glutamine

Praire, thanks for the advice. I have a question. If you were just starting out which package would you purchase on MWO?
        Thanks Kdog

I didn't. I got my own mix. I've probably spent FAR more than that total on my sups though - so in the end it would have been cheaper to buy the MWO package. Let me quick look.

For pure ease of use - The M- Pack is the best. That All-In-One Powder is for the birds - and I can drink some crappy stuff in the name of nutrition.

But I just looked at the cost- and that's a jacked price. Ok - the Kudzu is going to be high as is really high quality L- Glut. And that's two places where you need to spend. GREAT L-Glut - not crappy L-Glut, and at least 750 per capsule min - is going to end up being between 40 - 55 cents a capsule. You *will* notice a difference in the L-Gluts on the market. The MWO L-Glut is 1,000 MG each - but the capsule is a little thick. They work fine - but there are better on the market. They are better than about 90% of what I've used. You can do a lot worse but there are better.

Kudzu Recovery is good - and is about the same price in stores as is the Kudzu here.

B-100's will massively fix any shortage you have - and you can get a big bottle of those at GNC or Vitamins Shoppe for about $12 - store brand. No need to get name brand on that - they are basic water solubles - nothing special - and you will frankly - pee out any overage. Any shortage you have should be remedied in about 6 - 8 weeks of being AF and supplementing - if you were to take up drinking again for any reason - you need to keep supplementing B's in addition to a standard multi - because AL strips out B's from your system like mad.

You need a really good multi while your body recovers. That's just basic. There's a million good ones. I personally like Gel Cap ones because they absorb in my gut faster and my labs show better results faster using those than classic pills. I have them drawn more often because of the severe deficiencies found so I can see the impacts different formulations have in blood draws.

I get my D3 in a gel cap as well.

I take supplemental magnesium in a gel cap because of the relaxation effect it has. It does make a big difference in a panic attack - at least for me - as does Inositol and Taurine. I *can* most times get by with a half dose of valerian/hops/passionflower nightime herbal - but honestly - there have been times when the weight of how badly I screwed up hit - mostly in the first week - remember - I've tried to go AF a number of times - and those panic attacks suck. It's like an elephant is sitting on me, crushing me.

When they are that bad - it's the half dose of valerian/hops/passionflower AND a single dose each of magnesium/inositol/taurine.

But if I do that - I'm not driving anywhere. I'm getting a binky and going C*H*I*L*L. Because you can't stress with that combo on board.

Inositol - Anxiety & Fatty Liver

                THE GOOD EFFECTS OF INOSITOL
                0 COMMENTS
                Oct 3, 2010 | By Don Amerman

Part of the nutritionally important B-complex family of vitamins, inositol possesses medicinal properties that may make it useful in the treatment of several health conditions and diseases. Preliminary studies have focused on the nutrient's possible role in treating nervous disorders, liver problems, Alzheimer's disease and diabetic neuropathy. Most citrus fruits, unprocessed whole grains, brewer's yeast, cabbage, cantaloupe, lima beans, liver and some nuts are rich in inositol. Talk to your doctor before self-treating with inositol.

                NERVOUS DISORDERS
In "Healing and Wholeness," author Randi Fredricks says inositol helps to maintain the integrity of cellular membranes and is essential for optimal functioning of the nervous system and the brain. She says the nutrient helps speed messages to the brain's serotonin receptors. Fredricks cites one study in which patients diagnosed with bulimia received inositol supplements, achieving a reduction in binge eating and other bulimic behaviors that was comparable with that obtained with prescription medications. Patients also experienced a reduction in related symptoms such as depression, panic and anxiety attacks and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

An Israeli study uncovered similar evidence of inositol's efficacy in treating nervous disorders. Researchers compared the effects of daily inositol supplements of up to 18 g daily with 150 mg daily of fluvoxamine, a widely used antidepressant, on 20 patients diagnosed with panic disorder. In findings published in the June 2001 issue of the "Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology," researchers reported that inositol effected a slightly higher reduction in panic attacks than the prescription medication and caused fewer side effects.

                PREVENTS FATTY LIVER
Fatty liver, a condition widely associated with excessive alcohol consumption, occurs when excessive quantities of triglyceride and cholesterol accumulate in liver cells. An animal study, conducted by researchers at Eastern Washington University, examined the effects of supplementation with inositol and choline, another B-complex nutrient, in laboratory rats that had been aerobically trained and had no deficiencies in either of the two nutrients. Their findings, published in the February 1995 issue of the "International Journal of Sports Medicine," showed that the inositol/choline supplements reduce liver fat without decreasing adipose tissue mass.

                MAY HELP DIABETICS
Diabetes often leads to peripheral nerve damage caused by chronically elevated blood sugar levels. A healthy nervous system alerts most people to injury or other damage in the arms or legs via pain signals sent to the brain. In diabetes, such messages may not get through. John D. Kirschmann, author of "Nutrition Almanac," reports inositol, used in combination with choline, has been shown effective in improving nerve transmission, which could ease the problem of diabetic neuropathy, a serious complication of diabetes.

Ok - Been all over the web - the cheapest I can find that super duper fast acting L-Glut in capsule - works as fast as a powder without the gross after-tasted and you can easily load it into a pill carrier to take with you for cravings on the go - is Bodybuilding.com - a website of every amino acid or protein known to man I think. So - you could also get your complete aminos, your Taurine, if you were taking L-Lycine, or L-Serine from here as well...

The L-Glut that is smoking fast is Sci-Fit's Glut-Lyn 1500. I'm getting the big bottle of 240's right now. A honking craving at the witching hour gets 6 capsules - maintenance dosing is 4 at a time right now until I get through the first couple months. This is my single most effective supplement - and I am finding on this one - spending money on a better quality one here - does actually make a difference.

                          GABA

I take GABA daily and have no side effects except being chilled but both my sons tried it ( it is used for weight control and they are both a bit porky) and they found the same as you that they couldn't string sentences together.
They halved the dose and were fine ....... And lost weight easily

Taurine and Inositol have been the quiet stars of this routine - having trouble relaxing at night? add these to a magnesium tablet - and you have HALF of the most expensive chill pill at the vitamin store - and you can each as a single in generic store brand for pennies in the big bottles.

Once I figured out which were the most powerful actives - I went and got the magnesium, inositol and taurine in the store brand and in BIG bottles - and I just add in the Valerian, Melatonin, or L-Theanine in the amount I need or all three if I am out of my gourd and need to go NITE NITE NOW!!!!

Since actually - all of those are in one brand of chill pill - with the GABA added (which I can't take anymore) - and that brand charges $45 for a 30 day supply of the lowest dose.

Uh - for $60 I can buy them in singles in higher doses and have about 60 days supply. I will mix myself thanks.

And the inositol plus taurine plus magnesium does help panic attacks - it won't stop one but it does take the edge off if you add a single Valerian to it. in combo - panic attack almost completely gone....
