i think im on a different time zone to most here but never mind. im on a different time zone to most people on my time zone as well. crawling outa bed at 11.30 am after a glorious nights sleep. i take a sominex pill when im struggling with sleep and it usually does the trick. feeling positive at last about dealing with this drinking crap. no excuses for me.Today is the tomorrow i worried about yesterday and it turned out fine

SL, R4L and Spuds, so glad you're here.
As Supercrew says Spuds, there are no reasons for drinking, only excuses.
We can do this everyone - cheers to an AF January and then onward to a sober 2012!

Hello Guys.
I am back. I wish I could say I had been perfect over the Holidays but I caved in on the Christmas Cruise. It was just so hard with AL everywhere and in my family there is always tension between certain people - it just got to be too much and I gave up for the Holidays.
Anyway, I am back and determined that by the time the next Holiday season rolls around I'll have a good 11+months under my belt.
Unwasted - thanks for starting this thread - you are a real inspiration. Scottish - congratulations to you too! Believe me, I WISH I was in both your shoes with my goals checked off! Congratulations to everyone else on this thread who has done so well over the Holidays. :goodjob::h

:lHi My Life - so glad you've joined us.......hope you had a good time. Sorry you drank, but it was a tall order. Like you say, though, next year at this time you'll have almost a year under your belt.

Thanks Unwasted.
I think I read a post of yours awhile back saying that you felt maybe you were using drinking to fill in a void of spirituality in your life - (I think that was you?) Anyway, it resonated with me, and I think I really need to work on that as well and am really planning to make that a focus in 2012.
Have a great day and thanks for the support! :l

My Life, yes that was me. I'm learning to meditate and am reading books by Tolle, and things incorporating Buddhist principals......I definitely think there's a connection for me in trying to fill that void with alcohol. You know, searching for a transcendence of sorts.

Hello A/F January Enthusiasts... I will join you. Did not drink yesterday but despite my goals of not drinking over Christmas, I did. Not beating myself up as I was extremely moderate under intense influence. Shots were had while setting up for the New Years party and I just couldn't do it. I sipped on wine though once the party began. Anyways, onward and upward. As Unwasted knows, I commit a lot and follow through rarely. I've got one day under my belt. I was asking myself last night what it is I would gain by going 30 days without my little glass of red. Besides the pride in myself (and that's a biggie), I will lose weight, feel fantastic upon rising like I did this morning, do more stuff in the evenings and give my body a well-deserved rest.
Thanks for starting this UnWasted, you inspirational leader!!Tipplerette
I do this for my children, my grandchildren, my health, my peace of mind, and mostly for the opportunity to learn to live with my true, unfiltered, clear-headed, vulnerable self.

Hi MyLife!! Family is so hard, that was my gig month of failure in 2011 - I fell badly in July when I went home to see famuiy and it took me till Nov to get sorted out! Well done for jumping back on so very quickly - now you will just have to catch up! and you know you can do it!!
Happy Jan 2nd just took decorations down when watching the Rose Bowl parade!
Spuddle - the great thing about this site is that we are in all time zones and there is usually someone on - I often get to post one of teh last posts in the daily section, so have to remeber to not ask questions or sign on early in the day. You get to sign in in the middle - after Australia and before California!!!

Thanks for the thread and I am so glad I came back here for the only positive reinforcement not to drink. 99.9% it seems of the world wants to drink and tries to make me think it's o.k. or just be careful. But you know yourself when you drink enough that you can't walk straight and you do it day after day something has to give. I know many people have a glass of wine and they're done but why they don't understand those of us who look at that as a warm up to the race. I think the social acceptance of AL makes it more difficult to survive AF in a society that is so pro booze. ~~ Anyway after all I'm on day 3 and ready to go for it again as an 'old newbie'. I didn't pick the date to start it just worked out that by the time the year was winding down I was so tired and worn out from drinking and working that I thought I might not see the New Year. I really don't want to drink. So, I will not drink. Health to everyone.
& Piper where are you? Sounded like you were ready I hope you are well.

A little late jumping onboard but today's my New Year's Day. Didn't count recovery yesterday as drank into earlier hours anyway. I feel ready now to get serious about my commitment. Today I ate well and took supps, pampered myself, read loads on MWO (DG's plan thread really helpful), went walking with stop at coffee shop, went walking again this evening as witching hour hit - taking the advice found earlier to change the routine. Looking forward to hypno CD's arriving to help my poor little brain and will finish Jason Vale. Feeling so much more positive about my quit this time. All I have to do is NOT drink! So, in jammies early as day one comes to a close - tea and movie for me now. Wishing everyone a VERY happy AF New YearYou were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life? Rumi

Happy New Year everyone. I am back & relieved to be here. It was so good to wake up today without a hangover, my first in weeks. I went for a 4 mile run today & feel good. And I was out until 3am at a friends house with lots of pressure to drink but was fine about it. I had resolved to stop on Jan 1st & I have. I did the same thing last Jan & lasted 2 weeks so am hoping to do much better. I feel I have learnt so much since then about AL & addiction, mostly thanks to this site & a few books.SJ xxx :groupluv:
