Hi Jon! Welcome to the nest! You are definitely not in the wrong spot. I agree that only you know if you have a problem of not. I know I have a problem cause if I didn't have to work one day, I could start drinking as early as 9 am. That drinking would last all day. Once I start, I don't stop. Blackouts happened every now and then, and I also became dependent on al to get through the day. Now, that's a problem! You are probably not nearly as bad as I was, but if you think you have even a little problem with al, well that's still a problem isn't it?
Congrats on day 2! The first few days are hard but it gets easier and easier. Stick around! Read, ask questions, post! Looking forward to hearing from you!"When you know better, you do better"

i have been confused whether i have a problem or not. but i guess if you dont want to do it but still do it means you have no control over it.... like if i know i have a problem it seems like i would be able to stop. but i just keep convincing myself i dont have a problem. Is there anyway to be able to tell if you do have a problem? just so i know....
Hey Jon welcome and enjoy all the positive vibes. AL will con you if you allow it. AS far as your question you know the ole 'if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck & looks like a duck... it probably is. So if you drink like you have a drinking problem, think you have a drinking problem & still drink too much chances are either you are on your way or you have already arrived at the station. If you want to stop this site is a tremendous resource. I wish you well.

Evening Folks. Canadian Gal you had me thinking I was losing it for a sec. Thought I was in the Newbie's Nest and had to double check. lol
Jon, I always remember this: it doesn't matter so much how much you drink or how often you drink but what happens when you do drink. Bottom line is you have to look the man in the mirror. Welcome to MWO.
Nice to see you again AV--love your sense of humour.
No drink or smoke today but these midnight munchies gotta stop. Berries and whipped cream tonight. Totally yum but make a big bum.Psalms 119:45

Hi RC yes i am back as finally my mum has gone home after a month plus and now nearly ready to get back on the wagon, just looking for a nice horse to hook it up too. i have given myself 16th jan as my af date but getting back into mwo instead of stalking around. i'm not ashamed but getting into the right headspace to get off this merry go round of drinking.
congrats on your no drinking or smoking. giving up both is a goal for me also. how long has it been now?AF free 1st December 2013 - 1st December 2022 - 9 years of freedom

Hey AV--skip the wagon and just get right back on the horse. Whenever your ready-no need to be ashamed. No drink since December 30 and smokes since Jan 2. So far nf is harder. Almost caved tonight. Taking 5-10 long deep breaths and thanking myself for the fresh air when they hit.Psalms 119:45

Good morning Januaries!
I have to say I'm so impressed with those of you giving up nicotine as well on this journey. Luckily, I somehow avoided cigarettes. Which is surprising as my father smoked and so did my stepfather - and my Mom occasionally too. It just never appealed to me that much - now I'm so grateful for that!
Sending everyone strength for an AF Journey today. :h

Today is a day I never thought I would see - Day 10!! Double digits. One third of the way to my goal of 30 days AF. Other than being grumpy of the weekend and eating sweets like crazy, I am feeling pretty darn good. I could never have got there without someone to talk to about this so thank you all.
I quite smoking 15 years ago and that was WAY harder, you guys are tough!
Ok I am off to do the 30 Day Shred and try to sweat off at least one of those chocolate cookies I ate last night.

Hi all, checking in on day 10! It is truly amazing I did not drink yesterday. We have had trady befall out little family, no one died but I feel like they did. I can't talk about it on here because I am too easy to find. Suficit to say it is so sad and I am so hurt and I feel helpless. I will not drink though...mostly because I am doing a bad job holding my tongue sober, I know I won't be able to drunk and the person does not need to hear me because I don't want to be hurtful, I love them and they are hurt enough without me addin more to the problem more than I all ready have...thank you all for just being....have a great day 10!You always succeed if you never stop trying.
Everyday we choose the direction of change.

Good morning, everyone. When I make it through today I will have one week under my belt. Whoohoo! I set that goal months ago, and it's finally in sight. Another happy turn of events is that my husband, who also drinks way too much is taking notice and is so proud of me. Right now he says he wishes he could join me but..but..but.
Last night he said he wished he could join me but he needs alcohol to relax. This morning when he was sober I reminded him of our conversation and gave him my copy of Jason Vale's "Kick the Drink". I told him I had bookmarked the chapter about the fallacy that alcohol helps you to relax. His response? "Great, I'll read it. Thanks!"
I've tried so many time to get him to try and quit with me. He's never been interested, but now I see that it's not that he didn't want to, he just didn't think it was possible. This doubles and triples my resolve. If I could stop drinking AND help my husband to stop, too, well...life would be pretty sweet!~ The chief cause of failure is trading what you want most for what you want now ~

Good morning Januaries!(I like that)
AW, thinking of you. Let us know how you're doing when you can.:l
Irie that is freakinfabulous! What about scheduling some different activities with your husband that wouldn't include al. Shake it up a bit and see how much fun you can have w/o? Great job on day 7! (premature but I know you ain't gonna give that up today)
Jenny, sorry to hear you've had a tragedy in your life. But good for you taking the time to think it through and how al would just complicate things.
Vini~~WOOT WOOT ON DAY 10! Wish you could shred some whipping cream off for me. :H
That's it, that's all.
Have a good one and....
