JAMMIN JANUARY KICKOFF FOR A SOBER 2012 - NEWBIE SUPPORT THREAD

      Evening January Jammers!

Dodo- Well done!!!! The cravings will eventually become few and far in between. You are doing great! Stay strong!

UW- You are seriously my hero. I am so proud of you and inspired by you for handling such a difficult situation. Thanks for checking in. My thoughts are definitely with you.

My Life- I saw Bush on an interview with Oprah. I don't know if he mentions this in his book or not, but he was out to dinner one night with his family...wife, kids, Bush Sr and mom. He had had one too many. He turned to an old lady at another table and asked her "What's it like to have sex after 50?" Just out of the blue! His family was mortified and the next day he was embarrassed as well. Oh the stupid things we do when we are drunk.

My hubby came home today after staying in his town for 6 weeks to study driving. He came home, sick as a dog (poor thing) and unfortunately to a not so spick and span house. It's clean, but not sparkling how I like it cause I have been too busy with work. He has been my biggest fan about quitting drinking as he, himself, doesn't drink unless he is around friends (which is not too often). I told him that on Christmas Eve my friends and I went to a night club where the minimum we could buy was 3 26 oz. bottles of whatever and mix. We bought Hennessy and only finished 2 bottles. So there is still one bottle at the club that I can pick up and bring home. I told him I wanted to give the bottle to a friend of his. He said "Or we can keep it at home and if ever I want to, I can drink it." I said, "Ya. But you know, if I see you drinking some then I am going to want some too and you know that is really bad for me." He said, "Ya. You're right. Let's give it away." How lucky am I to have such a supportive husband!!! He doesn't know it, but it makes all the difference in the world.

Well I am off to bed. Everyone on here is doing amazing! Keep it up!

OK, bringing up the rear for the Jammers is moi! Now I actually see that as a very important job as I'll kick your butts if I see any of you tumbling off that wagon.

Anyways feeling lots better today and ready for another crack of the whip. Oney's Hypnos have arrived (BIG thank you) and I think they're helping - felt great last night and instead of thinking about vino I got out my xmas zumba DVD and danced my way through the witching hour. Obviously no South American blood in me as I dance like a spanner but don't care - felt great afterwards.

You're all doing really great and I wish you loads of strength to stay with it. Day 2 for me

Picked up Piece of Cake from library today too - think I have K9 to thank for that one

One guy I read about who quit drinking and smoking at the same time said he thought the weight gain from stopping smoking would be cancelled out by the weight loss of stopping drinking. Sounds like good logic to me.
          Hi Mylife!
Well I answered your question in the Newbies Nest, BUT I addressed it to MWOLady because I couldn't remember who asked me!!! I'll tell ya, I really miss those brain cells I killed off! Anyway, I see Vini also answered your question, so you should be fully informed on the 30 Day Shred now. LOL Oh, and I also agree with the logic of the guy you mentioned above, it should work right?

Freefly - Enjoy the book, I thought it was so good. She doesn't sugar-coat anything, I'll tell you that much! But what strength she has...I know I learned a lot from her.

Well I'm doing good AF-wise, but I caved on the ciggies yesterday. SO frustrated with myself and tired of giving myself permission to procrastinate (my newest excuse is that I will quit when I get to 30 days AF). I have no answers right now, I gotta think about exactly how I'm going to tackle this. All I know is that smoking has no redeeming qualities...I've even started feeling nauseous after I have one, so why do I do it? The addicted brain is complicated!

Everyone keep up the great work, you have no idea how much each of you helps me every day!

:HLove that Freefly! I'm staying in line today for sure!

K9 - I'm going to look into this 30-day shred thing...and I so feel for you with the ciggies! I say one demon at a time. But the guy in the video (the same one who talked about the weight gain/loss) said he thought if he was going to be miserable he might as well quit everything at once...so it's your call! Good luck with whatever you decide. :l

I'm off to look up this 30-day shred video...

Morning Jammers! A fab day here in Beijing. Nice and sunny and not too cold. Happy to have my hubby back home.

Tina- Welcome! This is a really great site filled with loving people, encouragement, support and inspiration. Read as much as you can, ask questions, post, post, post!

Jenny- thanks again for organizing all of us! I've been reading the newbies nest, but haven't been posting cause there are so many people there, I can't keep track of them all. This is much easier.

My life- congrats on double digits!

Today is day 14 for me! I'm halfway to my 3rd goal and I am ecstatic about it! Thanks for all your support Jan Jammers!

K9 I'm like you when it comes to addressing everyone. Just post when and what you feel. There are no expectations from anyone, so don't put them on yourself.
I am keeping too busy to miss al right now and the urges to smoke are getting less.

Today was hard hard hard, I had a horrible day at work and all this family stuff is still going on and my hubby was three sheets to the wind by the time I got home at 6:30. I took him to the parts store and I didn't realize he had been drinking for a while until we were in the parts store and I realized that his speech was slow and he lacked the ablity to make decisions. I just get so annoyed with slow people. I'm fast about everything, even when I drink. I want to drink but seeing him mades me not want to be that way. When I make it through Thursday and Friday I'll be good to go until next Wednesday. Well at least I know my habits. We also are seeing a counsler to deal with the family stuff tomorrow. That may be a trigger so I'll be ready. Good night all, I hope to get some sleep tonight, we'll see!

Jenny, make up your mind now not to give in to the trigger. Fast forward to being miserable, hung over, and back in a rut..........the drudgery of starting over, being disappointed in yourself for caving..........YOU CAN DO IT. Oh, yeah, and remember your husband acting like a zoned out dunce in the parts store.:H

Jenny it's really great that you can identify your triggers ahead of time and be ready to deal with them when they hit. That shows amazing strength and progress. Good luck tomorrow at the counselor and stay strong! You can do this!

Well, day 11 ticked off on the calendar and on to day 12. I am kind of getting in to the groove of this now and the cravings are less every day. I still find when I come in the door from work the toughest time, that transition from shaking off 'I hate my job' to 'I love being home' is a big trigger for me and a time when DH and I would sit with wine and talk about the day. And it would be a fast drink and then another..... Hopefully, the more days I do something else, the less it will be a trigger. And my DH is being great, he is still drinking but WAY less and not until after dinner, often not until after I have gone to bed. I told him when we go in to town on Saturday for an appointment, we can go for a really nice lunch afterwards with all the money we have saved! But no wine, of course.

I am closing in on 2 weeks! and am still convicted.
