Hello everyone
Hello everyone, we are all so enthusiastic aren't we. Maybe this is old news but I take Melatonin for the sleep issues. I usually go to bed tipsy and fall into a lovely sleep (until 4:00 a.m.). Now that I am not drinking the falling asleep part eludes me. So after an hour of tossing and turning I take two Melatonin and the next time I open my eyes it's 6:00 a.m.
I got that idea from the MWO book.
Day three and happy as can be.Tipplerette
I do this for my children, my grandchildren, my health, my peace of mind, and mostly for the opportunity to learn to live with my true, unfiltered, clear-headed, vulnerable self.

Hello everyone
Hi all. I've been taking 5HTP and GABA for sleep and it works very well. They are both amino acids that calm the brain. When I used to drink I'd wake up as soon as the alcohol was gone - ugh!!! Dry mouth, headache - lovely. Have a great day!Ask yourselves, would you rather be a non drinker with an occasional desire to drink or a drinker with a constant desire to stop doing it?

Hello everyone
Morning all, day 4 today and I can't actually believe I have made it without any desire for AL whatsoever so far, I am not getting complacent because I know it is VERY early days but just to not have any cravings for the time being means the world to me, I had an early night again last night but still tossed and turned most of the night, no sweats though which I am grateful for. I will try one of the sleep remedies you all use if my restlessness goes on into next week I think
I have the morning to myself today whilst DS is at playgroup so planning to background paint a couple of canvasses to henna later and do a pile of ironing then we are meeting up with a friend and her DS this afternoon - weather permitting hopefully at a local park.
Hope everyone is keeping sober and well?Taking it ODAT

Hello everyone
Hi Mauri:
I use Valarian. It is a root and you should be able to buy it in capsules at a vitamin store.
It has given me devine sleep. I sleep so well I have trouble getting up but that may also be a bit of seasonal affective disorder due to the gloomy winter weather here.
I am now on day 63 but for the first few days I had some headaches and sweats. Not sure how much the sweats were from lack of AL or just my age because I still have them.
Hope you try this suggestion. It has worked well for me.
Stay well.
R4LDon't worry, be happy!

Hello everyone
One thing that is cheering me up on the seasonal affective front? Got one of those little Verilux Happy Lights for Christmas - LOVE it. Try to spend an hour reading/listening to music in front of it - but that much bright clear light is a mood lifter. :-)
Valerian works well - I like time-released melatonin because otherwise I wake up at 3 am.
I'm not taking either one on the nights I do the sleep Hypnos - those help keep me asleep. However - I do drink herbal tea that has both chamomile and passionflower in it - both of which are sleep aids - before bed. That popping sound you hear is me attempting to remove my head from my arse. It's been there for years so this may take a while.
Admitting I need healing. And I am not big enough to do this alone.

Hello everyone
firefox hope your cold is gone soon :l
My herbal stress relief tablets have both valerian and passion flower in so hopefully once i get a regular dose into my system my sleep might improve
Got lots of painting done this morning but couldn't be bothered with my ironing - naughty, naughty! I will do it later on I think (maybe :H) Just had a soup for lunch and watching Peppa Pig with DS for a bit before heading off out to meet our friends.
I am dreading this weekend if I am honest, it is just my normal time for drinking and eating loads and since i am not doing either i am apprehensive about my coping mechanismsTaking it ODAT

Hello everyone
Hi Mauri-
First I just want to say I'm so glad you're back!
Your sleep will improve over time, so just be patient...let your body get over the shock of not being soaked in alcohol, and you'll be amazed at what it can do! I use Valerian root on weekends when I want to take a nap. I noticed the effects of it wear off quickly, so it's perfect for a 1-2 hour nap. But at nighttime, I use Melatonin. You'll probably have to experiment with the dosage. I've been taking it a while so I'm up to 10mg, but if you've never taken it, I would start with a 3mg tablet and see how that works. It will help you sleep all night! I noticed you also asked about 5htp...I bought a dose that is too strong for me (100mg) and it makes me nauseous. I used to take 50mg and had no problems. The 100mg pills I have are the powdered capsules so I can't split them...and they cost me $20...I hate wasting the money, but I remind myself that I've wasted WAY more than that for an evening of drinking...so, oh well.
Anyways, keep up your good work and keep us posted on your progress!
:h

Hello everyone
Thanks Mario
K9 where do you buy Melatonin? I slept a bit better last night until DH elbowed me dunno if I was snoring or something anyway after that I tossed and turned a lot then DS got me up at 5.15 as per usual, I am soooooo sick of these early mornings but we have tried everything and he won't sleep later and won't go back to sleep :upset: my turn for a lie in tomorrow though - roll on tonight LOL
Well I am on day 5, I am really pleased with myself although I have woken up today feeling groggy and sick - sick feeling may just be the hunger though as I have been existing on 1200 cals a day since Tuesday, hope this bloomin diet is working cos it's a killer :H
Today I need to pop out and buy chinese duck pancakes I am going to roast a duck we bought on offer before Christmas and that is our treat for the weekend, first time I have done one so wish me luck! Think we will try and go for a walk too if the weather is decent enough.
Hope everyone is happy and sober todayTaking it ODAT

Hello everyone
Thank You!!!
Mauri:
Thank you so much for starting this thread! I'm on day 6 and I did struggle this afternoon. I kept pushing the thought of AL out of my mind, cleaned up the rest of the house and then sat down and got on MWO and saw your thread. It really helped....I'm struggling through my first AF weekend in awhile and I was also doing the justification thing....proud of myself for 6 days and then started to bargain with myself that maybe I could just have wine on Saturdays......WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! Anyway, I mixed myself soda water and diet grape juice, made a cheese plate with fruit and I'm over the hump! Going to cook dinner, take a hot bath and watch a movie with the family.
On to Day 7!!!!!
