    Curious Newbie

    Hi all,

Please forgive me if I don't use the correct lingo or am not very knowledgeable about the program.

After drinking three glasses of wine before 3pm and getting totally sloshed last night which is a daily experience for me, I realized that I need help. I did a general online search and found this forum. I read up about the program and immediately ordered the book and the suggested vitamins. I haven't received anything as of yet, but am very excited about getting my life back.

I don't want my drinking to have a total control over my life anymore. I am a fulltime student and work fulltime but I somehow always find time to drink. It makes me so sad to think that something has this much control over me. I am relatively young (32) and have my whole life ahead of me and when I think about my habits and how they can progressively get worse as I age, I want to cry.

I am sorry if I am a bit down with this message, but I am sure this is normal.

I just have a few questions as I get started with this program: I've read a few of the forums and the talk of the drug Baclofen. Is this something that is a necessity; or do you recommend that I give the program a go before trying to obtain the medication? Any information is welcome and I am extremely hopeful for my next journey.

Hi - you are so ready for this. I was your age when my drinking really started to affect my life and now at 46 how I wish I had opened my eyes then and not wasted all these years being dumbed down with alcohol.
Everyone comes here with an alcohol problem although all vary in amounts, what they drink, how often, so you will have to decide what you think will work best for you.
Have a really good read to get a feel for how other people started their paths. If you click on the member name and start from their first posts. You'll get to know some of the success stories at 6 months, 1, 2, 3, 4 years - well worth a read.
Also check out the Newbies Nest.
Some feel they do better with the help of meds, some CDS, supplements, AA, and so many the support of MWO and vits is enough.
Whatever you decide, I wish you well. I have a feeling we'll be hearing from you soon.
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN
Relapse starts long before the drink is drunk!!.Fresh Start!

          Snuf,:welcome:

I think most people here would suggest trying without meds at the beginning and saving that as a later option. Many have had success by reading books on alcoholism including the MWO book, taking the supplements, changing their diets, adding exercise, and reading and posting here a lot.

Here is a link to the Toolbox, which has tons of helpful stuff for you to get started with some kind of sobriety plan (be sure to scroll through the pages because things get buried):

          https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html

There is also a thread called the Newbie's Nest where you can post daily and get lots of one-on-one feedback from others just starting out, along with some veterans. Here is a link:

          https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...est-30074.html

And, here is a link to the Meds thread - lots of information and great people there to help if you decide to go that route:

Topamax, Campral, Naltrexone, Baclofen, other meds - My Way Out Forums

Take as much time as you can to read what people have written on different threads throughout the site.

          Sending you peace and strength.

Greetings Snuf. Lots of great info around here. Soak it all up and use what works best for you.
For me it's meds. I believe that alcoholism is a biological disease and the brain is or has become hardwired to need alcohol. Books and smart recovery programs are a help for sure, but all the positive thinking in the world is not going to fix a biological disease whether it be alcoholism or cancer.
